It's pretty tough not to be disappointed with how things have gone so far. I agree , trying to be positive that we'll hear news of a signing or two but the longer it goes on , the more i begin to worry.

Weren't we let down at the last minute by one player? It would have been two already otherwise. That means we have to virtually start again in terms of that type of player which won't be quick.
I would now expect 2 in this week though.

I’m hoping for an early week signing then maybe 2 at the final hour.. the 2 probably being loans but hey.. look at the difference Sweeney and Lumley made last season on loan, might unearth some gems as well as signing at least one experienced league 1 player, I’d happily take that at this point

Positives from the window:
Tom Lockyer - new contract Tom Broadbent - new contract Rollin Menayese - new contract Bernard Mensah signing 7 vital points from 3 games
Negatives from the window:
Bodin gone for far less than his worth
Obviously it's a very big negative, but given that our squad is in a period of transition, and we're unlikely to spend big money, there are at least some good things happening at the moment.
Mensah, though time might prove me to be wrong, reminds me of the Partington signing in that I have a feeling he might be used very sparingly to start with whilst he finds his feet at the club and the coaching staff work with him. If the results next season are like those for Partington this time around then we'll all be happy, but we mustn't expect too much too soon.
What realistically would I like to see happen?
One permanent signing who can in some way improve the spine of our team. Possibly a defensive midfielder or a striker.
One winger, possibly this will have to be a loanee.
Ellis Harrison signing a contract extension.
No more first team regulars leaving.
A positive result at Donny.
What I think we'll get from the above? The winger, on loan, no one leaving and I think we may take a point at Donny. I know people think it's a cop-out, but it really is a difficult transfer window to do business in. We have to be realistic at present and I think if we can stay up and then continue to re-shape our squad in the summer that's the best we can hope for. But hanging on to DC and our best players is more important than getting new ones in at this time, in my opinion.

I know some will say other clubs are getting plenty of players in but are they the right players? If we are looking for permanent they have to be right and it's not as easy as playing a computer game saying I'll have him, him and him!! I think Parts can be the long term answer as DM, problem at the moment is he's required to cover for the increasingly injury prone Leads although J Clarke may be back soon? My priority would be a LW, this gives DC the option of playing a conventional 4-4-2 instead of the midfield diamond he is almost forced to use at the moment.

Where would you play Sercs & CL in a 4-4-2, Sercs not strong enough in the tackle to be in a midfield two and surely too good to be dropped for an incoming LW? Although an LW or RW as back up would be useful I do wonder if all this apparent messing about by DC in the January transfer is all mind games by him to get the most out of his present squad.

I'm not sure either. At a pinch, he could play alongside Harrison, but I think you lose something of him if he's not driving from midfield. At the moment I think a 4-4-2 works only if Ollie Clarke is right at the top of his game, and Lines is his ideal partner. I think we should stay away from that system for now.

The way I look at the situation is that DC must get the new players in to give him the option to play a different way. Before Christmas it was easy to see where new players would fit in however Sinclair in the last two hoime games has played out of his skin showing a willingness to go forward that was not seen before Xmas- he looks a class act. Ollie Clarke is getting better and Broadbent has settled in really well. We haven't even really seen what Mensah can do. At this time I would say another striker is more important than a centre half so would go for physical Centre forward, Central defensive midfielder and a winger or two. The important thing is that we cannot afford to forget what was a pretty shambolic first half of the season.

I'd be quite happy with either Sercombe or Lines in a 2 man centre midfield but not together. I want us to have a left and right winger so DC has the option to start or change to various formations and not be restricted to narrow set ups which our squad pretty much dictates at the moment.

I think the important thing here is options, as has quite rightly been pointed out we're very restricted in how we can set up at the moment. Personally I'd be looking to bring in a wide player & defensive midfielder as a priority with a centre back & possibly another striker afterwards if at all possible. I don't think anyone would argue with an unchanged 11 for the Donny game but would welcome having the ability to change systems from the bench.

Suggestion to MODS:
Can I suggest to the MODS that, at some stage in the next 2 days, you change the name of the this thread to "ONE WEEK LEFT".
That should set things going nicely!!!!!!
