"Agree to disagree I'm afraid, he got 2 assists Saturday so a few more to his name than 2!" It is a mystery to me how I ever used to enjoy football without knowing (and caring) about 'assists'.

Ellis has started 24 games and made 3 sub appearances. He has scored 7 goals, 4 assists and claimed 9 Gaschat Man of the Match awards, but his value to our team this year cannot be seen by stats alone. He has been the heartbeat of our team and his defensive play has been superb.

Bodin or Sercombe perhaps, but can't agree with you on Harrison.

I love Sercombe, but not sure how Bodin (though clearly a quality above this league), would qualify for this as he could be very in and out of games. In Rovers-terms, his heart has now stopped beating anyway!

Don't get me wrong, Harrison should be commended for his work rate and contribution to a team with a strong work ethic. I just don't see him as a key player who would feature consistently for a side with genuine ambitions of making it to the Championship, just don't see him at that level in terms of quality. I'd love him to prove me wrong however.

Sinclair is probably the heart of the team.
Id absolutely hate to play along side him!
No matter how commited you are, what your work rate is or how much you are making of the skills you have, you'd always look over and think "oh, FFS he's putting me to shame!!"

Hard to argue with Sinclair! Apart from that he is not perhaps a cast-iron guaranteed starter. Certainly the heartbeat of the squad!

That fact we have names sercs, Sincs, Ellis and Bodin says that we have a variety of players that can, on their day, be the heartbeat or match winner and if they all come together on the same day we are as good as any other side in this division.
Clarke certainly builds a team on togetherness

Stats can be misleading and assist stats really wind me up. A player who passes the ball sideways 30 yards from goal to a player who either buries one or goes on a mazy run and finishes it will be given an assist. The ball could hit someone in the head unknown to them and bounce out to a striker who puts it in the net and gets an assist. But putting yourself about, winning balls on the halfway line, starting attacks with a header out from a corner etc gains you no recognition in this era of stats.
Ellis could have 1 assist or 10 assists, the full picture can only be told by watching him week in week out and I see a player who is leading the line as well as anyone in this league. His work rate is unquestionable now and he has started to hold the ball up well. If he was more clinical he would be in the championship without shadow of a doubt.
Not bad for a player who I and many others wrote off a year ago. Well done DC, the coaching staff and Ellis for sticking with it and proving us wrong.

I'd be surprised if we don't receive a sizable bid for Ellis this week.

Ellis was tremendous yesterday, great standing ovation towards the end of the game, if he does not go this week, l would not be surprised if he is sold in the summer.

Its about time we had someone up front who can ruffle the feathers of the opposition. Well done to Ellis for adding consistency to his game, he sure looks a handful.

I don't think Ellis would leave unless the offer to him, personally, was huge. He obviously enjoys his football here, likes living in Bristol, and has lots of footballing mates (from both Bristol teams - and why not, says I). Apart from Sincs, I think he is the least likely to want away - whoever his agent is!
