I can't believe we are still having this debate about the merits of Ellis and his value the the cause! The young lad , and i emphasize young, has come on in leaps and bounds this last 18 months, just accept him for what his strengths are and stop looking for the things he may not be so good at . What he is not is a natural finisher in the mold of Richard Walker, Cureton, Gurt Muller, Ole Gunner,ETC.These type of players had that instinct in and around the penalty spot ,6 yard box,but not one of them would have scored that 3erd goal yesterday, nor would anyone else in our current squad.but plenty in our squad would have missed the late chance.( except perhaps Bernard, who we are yet to see in full)! .None of them would contribute anything else to the team either. While there 25 odd goals a season would not be sniffed at can you afford to carry such players in today's game ?after all without Ellis defensive qualities this season we would be a lot worse off than we are now.!We do not have a 25 /30 goal striker, Nicholls could have been the answer but isn't, Telford could be but we dont know, so instead of that if Ellis and one other can find 30 goals between them eg Rory, add that to his all round contribution to the team ,through in goal contributions from midfield, then that will do for me!To me he is a bull, and real handful of a forward, great defensive and team ethic, great character and positive influence in the dressing room, and most of all he.s one of ours and a gas ed through and through!so to those few who still question his worth , forget the fact he is not a natural finisher or very good goal keeper,(though he may well be!)and accentuate the positives!if he keeps up his present level he will be player of the season without doubt, which will also be testament to DC'S man management skills and the advice he has given him, which he has obviously taken on board!hope it works on a few others too!hope all DC'S AND ELLIS'S hard work does not result in us losing him next week, as i believe there is a very real danger in doing so, meanwhile up the gas and take this thread down , Ellis deserves better than to be debated over, even by a tiny minority!

I'm hearing there is a bit of interest in Ellis from Wigan and Blackburn too. I think, as you do, he'd go anywhere if offered enough silly money, but he has ties here and across the bridge, and somewhere like Wigan would have to be really silly money. An offer from Baadiff would worry me because they can afford him and the location would suit him.

I’ve been his biggest critic over the years and been hugely frustrated by him since he showed more promise in the conf. All I can say is well done 👏 long may it continue!

On the Doncaster forum they were saying how good Ellis was yesterday. Half of them were calling him all sorts of names but that’s usually a sign that they couldn’t handle him. Apart from thinking he should have been sent off in the first half and the moans from them about no CHs there was a grudging respect for him. UTG!

Just read some comments on the Donny forum about Ellis. This one made me chuckle:
"I've not felt as much ire towards a player since Wellens at Oldham many years ago. Can we sign him? He's ace. Plays hard, runs fast, can finish, and winds up opposition players and fans. What a package"

I'm hearing there is a bit of interest in Ellis from Wigan and Blackburn too. Based on his recent interview I doubt he wants to move too far away from his mum to be honest! Who would have thought back in the days after we got relegated and he smirked off the pitch that he'd be leading the line for us back in League 1 a few years later. Not I. Well done Ellis and well done DC

Was that his best goal since the one at the Mem against Rochdale in 2013 when he cut in from the left and curled it into the top right corner at the Blackthorn end? It wasn’t the most valuable goal because that was the equaliser against Grimsby at Wembley. We knew he had it in him! Well done Ellis and congrats to DC for persevering a few years back. UTG!

I liked the one from the the conference season when he flipped it over the defender and then volleyed it in, a bit like Gazza v Scotland at Euro '96. Not sure if he meant it but it was a beautiful goal.
