Stadium has to be priority number one, even more so than that training ground or we will lose a generation of kids. Even little things like the PA system are a joke. Pitch is a shambles also

Came down today with a couple of Shrewsbury fans and they like the Mem because of it's character. Shame they won for the first time in 50 years. It’s a rugby ground where we have paid for a roof over a terrace, it’s a total embarrassment to even call it a stadium.

The rest of It looks sh**, I had one game in the south tent , about 12 years ago , just because my Dad in law came and his knees were f**ked . stood up after we’d scored sang Irene loud as f**k looked round and just people starring at me like I was a Dam alien or something. But behind the goal it’s alright where I am. It holds 4000 and the atmospheres alright, proper old school.

I love old school, just need to look at my musical taste, but apart from a roof and a tent at the south end there has been no improvements for years, we are so far behind lesser clubs ground wise it’s embarrising, all these clubs have had grants for stands, what have we had? A shed built next to the main stand at Twerton if I remember correctly.

If our club exists to provide a bit of fun for the supporters, a bit of fun for the owners and a rewarding workplace for the staff then what is the problem with staying at The Mem ? So long as Dwane Sports are prepared to continue funding the club and the ground is given the kind of gradual improvements which Wael talked about in December I can't see the need for anyone to risk tens of millions on a redevelopment or a new stadium. If they improve it bit By bit then perhaps within 5- 10 years we’ll have our 20,000 capacity stadium with nice facilities. I’m only 39 so I’m not in the “ it had to be UWE and now it’s not I hate Wael” camp like many of our older supporters are. Our clubs been around for over a hundred years and it’ll still be around in another hundred if planet earth is still capable of football. Put in to perspective our owners have been here 2 years. As an older supporter I should have liked the UWE Stadium to go ahead because when you have been brought up with tales of the glorious 50's and then lived through magical times at Eastville in the late 60's and early 70's I think it's only natural that your vision of Rovers is as a club which can compete in the top half of the English football pyramid. But if that is not to be and the aspirations of the owners are limited, which it seems they are, then I don't think it will make a great deal of difference to the majority of fans. At the end of the day those glorious and magical times were mainly about having fun with like minded friends as we experienced the up's and down's of following a football club so does it really matter which division the club is in or the size and standard of the stadium ? I live abroad so I never got to witness at first hand the descent into non-league but I've no doubt I would have been at Braintree and Altrincham sinking a few in the pub before and having a good moan afterwards. If 8000 keep turning up at The Mem they must be enjoying the experience and Wael is obviously happy as owner of the club so perhaps we should cherish what we have now and not expect tens of millions to be spent on something which may spoil the whole thing.

Are the pillars numbered ? I’ve never noticed 😂 Too busy looking beyond/ around em I spose. Behind the goal but over to the right near the back. Sort of in between the young uns and the old tote Enders which pretty much sums me up really, Twerton was my introduction to Rovers.

Great post . I’ve often thought about the stadium and our constant fight to get a new one. Often when I’ve looked at the artist impressions of the 20,000 capacity stadium I’ve had an awful feeling of impending doom that we might get it , employ a “big name” manager and players and get relegated and everyone would lose interest because DC and his merry men would be a thing of the past , supporters would sit around moaning that things weren’t like they used to be when Darrell built a squad on a shoe string that we could all be sure that they’d do everything they could for three points on a Saturday afternoon or a Tuesday night under the crap gloomy floodlights in front of a packed north terrace. I am an optimist but the thing that makes me like that is the experiences that twerton , the conference and the fighting spirit that our fantastic club has , I know we need a better stadium with better hospitality and facilities it makes sense that we do it as soon as possible not just to keep up but to push on. I remember talking to an old bloke before our 3-1 win at derby years ago in the FA cup. He’d supported derby his whole life and knew everything there was to know about them but had gone to the new ground a handful of times and said that it didn’t feel like his club anymore because everything about the atmosphere had changed and now only had a beer with the supporters before the game to soak up the atmosphere and then went home. He didn’t like the fact that he wasn’t allowed to stand up( he was in his 80s). I think I might end up like him, I’ve never sat down at a football match in my life.

The whole place is a total tip and an embarrassment to this great city of ours. And after standing there yesterday cold and wet & listening to an inaudible PA system and reflecting on what some on here are saying, that the "the match day experience has improved" since the (no longer) 'new' owners have taken over, are either blind, don't attend matches on sh1t days like yesterday or are totally 'effing' deluded.

The only feasible redevelopment if the old rugby ground site is for housing.
No one should be allowed to own this football club, now or in the future, without a serious intention to build a new stadium on another site.
The Al Qadis have conned supporters and the previous owners for 2 years.
It is incredible how placid the response has been.

I think he may see you as a dinosaur. Fair enough, I just prefer standing on a terrace to a seated area. I’m not exactly on my own there.

There is nothing wrong with safe standing but it would be nice not to get soaked to the skin in this day and age supporters should at the very least should have a roof over them, I heard Nick Day when welcoming the Shrews fans said he hoped they wouldn’t get too wet but didn’t mention all the GAS fans stood out in the open getting soaked as I said shouldn’t have to put up with it nowadays

Haven't been able to hear the 50/50 numbers in the south stand for months now. Pathetic. Stopped buying them.

I love the Mem. It's my second favourite stadium of all time....... After Twerton Park I'm getting on a bit now and my memories are precious! Not sure if we built an 80,000 stadium and filled it every week that it would change my mind!

I was brought up watching us at Eastville in the 60's, when all that most supporters wanted from a stadium was a place to watch football, perhaps a cup of tea or quick HT pint, didn't mind being crushed in shoulder to shoulder, hardly being able to move, unless we scored and then you were shunted around the Tote End almost like a fair ground ride grabbing hold of whoever you could ,just to stay upright. Had some fantastic days & nights there, especially the League Cup runs & Gloucester Cup Finals. Then in the latter years after the fire, & the neglect of the ground and the fact that football was being tarnished by the violence that surrounded, the place became a soulless shithole - the last game I recall with any real atmosphere was the Leicester win in the cup. However, it broke my heart when it was decided to move to Twerton, I was adamant at first that I would just give up on watching, but I needed to bring my kids up ad Gasheads so went & enjoyed some great times. 2nd of May 1990 topping the lot. But everything about the surroundings was horrid. I was so excited about moving back to the Mem, but personally didn't feel at home, I have tried out every area in the ground, keep going back to the North Terrace, but not convinced. Yes some good times getting to play offs & cup runs & the D&R games, but also some really bad lows - 4th Division for the first time & Non League for FFS. A bit like Twerton & Easville in the latter years, the Mem is an absolute sh** hole, the difference now tho, from 30 years ago is that whether we like it or not, most fans have expectation of better surroundings & amenities also a decent stadium nowadays provides so much opportunity to generate incomes for the club. We only get greater crowds now as football is more accepted nowadays & DC has given us something to shout about - nothing to do with the owners IMO - where were they when we were in non league, attendances were good then in comparison. 9000 yesterday in the rain, boxed in at the clubhouse bar to 'enjoy' a pint or having a Fosters Outside, Bloke I front of me moaning it took him 20 min to have a water & buy a couple of pasties. Good turn out but with a decent stadium we could have got 12000 yesterday especially with the new signings & back to back 3-1 wins. The Mem is not for me, 30 years ago maybe, but times have changed, as DC says were are 30 years behind the time in our infrastructure & unfortunately Mr Hamer the Crazy Gang also is 30 years out of date. IMO the board urgently need to provide plans & realistic timeframe for a complete rebuild of the Mem or a new build elsewhere. Evolution on the field perhaps, but it's time for revolution off the field or we won't have a club to evolve.
