Whilist not in the sqaud again he's keeping our other centre halfs on there toes. Competiton for places now. If tom B keeps progressing his time will come Yes. Revealing comment that DC made about Smith not playing. I'm paraphrasing but the gist of it is that Smith had done well recently but there were areas of his game he needs to work on and this applies to others as well. Broadbent presumably being one of them.

Seems poss' that;TB,Beard,Leads and Ollie could all be injured then??Good that Jim Clark is back. He's never let us down.Maybe have to recall Rollin if this injury list gets any worse. Don't think Rollin can be recalled. It's a half season loan which is in effect permanent. I do however stand to be corrected if that's not the case.

I think james clarke is more versatile to have on the bench than broadbent but that still leaves ryan sweeney on the bench ahead of tom. Also as dc dosnt give out injury information usually we cant be certain broadbent is fit. If I'm honest I wouldn't be surprised to see James Clarke leave in the summer. In his absence, Partington has cemented his position as the versatile defender in the squad and I'm not sure we need two. He is a steady defender but Parts just a bit better on the ball and has more to offer in the final third. I disagree, if James Clarke had been fit- DC would of been more comfortable dropping Lockyer during the poor form. Partington has illustrated he’s a decent fullback, but his one performance at CB was harrowing and it quickly got changed. If we don’t sign up JC, we’d most likely be in the market for another right sided CB. In a scenario whereby leadbitter starts- (probably doesn’t right now as I think parts is playing his best run) you’d rather Clarke on the bench- more solid across positions at the back. Allows for an extra midfielder/ forward. Finally James Clarke is very very football savvy. He plays a smart game and that’s why Darrell trusts him after 6 months out- to help see out a 1-0 situation. At present, it’s difficult to see the position that’s “his” but there are lots of scenarios be they injuries or game situations that he adds value.

Whilst many of us questioned why Clarke kept the faith in Ellis when he seemed to be lacking form and interest, it's been obvious that Ellis has been and is a big part of the team spirit behind the scenes which makes me wonder if Broadbent's lack of game time has nothing to do with on the field play but what he has given the team off the pitch and that Clarke prefers the team mindset with Craig and Lockyer as the back 2. I want to stress that there is no evidence that Broadbent is anything other than a perfect professional and this is nothing more than me looking for answers from seemingly unconnected situations.
