You've just got to be so grateful for the loyalty of DC. After winning back to back promotions with us, he could of easily left to triple his wages at either Leeds or Norwich, two massive clubs. He's not from the area, he's from Mansfield yet his attachment to the football club is second to none and he has stayed with us to finish the job that he has started, I've got a lot of respect for that. That kind of loyalty is rare in football these days as evidenced by Hurst jumping ship not once but twice to manage in a higher division.

His record of promotions is great no problem with that but my gripe is that he only has experience of lower league football and for us to move forward we need a more experienced manager. the inconsistency last season showed it just look at November and December and probably the last 8 or so games it all fell apart. I did did not think that I set the bar too high last season my bar was set at a top 10 finish and a positive goal difference something we should have been able to achieve , I did not ask for top 2 or even top 6 , under DC we are not ready for that The consensus is that we a 2 or 3 players short of a play-off or promotion push. With that in mind, which manager that we could realistically employ would have managed us to a better finish than 13th? I think we have suffered the usual 2nd season syndrome, and as such it wasn't too traumatic and was managed very well by DC. Provided we don't lose any key players this window, and DC is allowed to bring in the 2 or 3 players needed, next season should be a belter. I will watch with interest how Plymouth, Portsmouth and the other 2nd season promotion teams fair this season. And as for Shrewsbury, I fear they may bomb. What at do others think? Good points oldie. Agree about the second season syndrome and with those clubs you mentioned esp Portsmouth are a bit like us in that they have had new owners for a year and the fans expected him to spend more money on players which he hasn’t so far. They’ve lost Naismith, a good player, to Wigan so they will need to recruit a few and fairly soon. I have been one of those who said that 2/3 players who go straight into the team will really improve us and make us more competitive and could push us into a play off fight which would be great. Upson is a good recruit, now we need a couple of strikers one of which will need to get 20+ goals next season. I know some have said we need a winger but I’d be surprised if we did pay to get one. I’m sure DCs plan is to work with Mensah in pre-season and really get him up to speed and try and make his potential actual instead of just potential. As to Paul Hurst going to Ipswich good luck to him and I’m sure DC will feel a bit of envy perhaps but he will know that he’s a better manager than Hurst and his record is better. Even after gaining promotion with Grimsby Hurst was not liked by a very large minority of the fan base who didn’t like his football. He took dog’s abuse after they nearly messed up against Braintree in the semi final before getting out of the Conference. So he jumped ship asap with Grimsby in the lower reaches of the league. He didn’t build on the promotion with Grimsby but has done a very good job with Shrewsbury. But after the allegations about being tapped up and the CEO of Shrewsbury being upset about how he went I suspect he is a different person to DC and history has a way of coming back and biting you in a nasty place!! DC has shown enormous loyalty because he knows he is loved by the fan base (midland123 apart of course!) and is allowed to manage in the way he wants to. Hurst was not loved by all the fans at Grimsby and I bet the Shrewsbury fans will be really p***** off with the way he has gone especially with it impinging on the club’s preparation for Wembley. I hope he’s as happy in 6 months time! UTG!

They've already replaced Naismith with the highly-rated Republic of Ireland U21 international Ronan Curtis and brought in the promising Louis Dennis who can play in a similar position. Pompey will be fine with Jackett in charge and a billionaire owner.

Naismith has hardly set this division alight and if you look at some Pompey fans comments, quite a few aren't bothered he's going. I'd back Curtis to better the season Naismith has just had.

We will find out soon enough. Pompey wanted to keep naismith and paul cook who seems a pretty good judge of getting players signed him. Waste of time looking on forums after a player jilts the club, the views are always tainted by being annoyed they left imo.

Cook has worked with him before and indeed does know a good player when he sees one, but I'm surprised he has gone for Naismith now they've been promoted. He's never particularly struck me as Championship quality...we'll have to wait and see how he gets on.

Read all my post and you would have seen that I said a player like that would see us push for a play off place and increase our competitiveness. UTG!

Sure Pompey will be fine but my point was like Wael, Eisner at Pompey is not spending as much as some of the fans were expecting. A bit like Wael, improving gradually. UTG!

Tisdale has now left Exeter, which means that DC is now the 8th longest serving current manager in the 92.
