Must be really difficult for Hargreaves to make decisions like that. Talking of nepotism: That is brilliant. I’ve never seen that before. Please can someone respond with that on the guy’s social media post?

I'm a little surprised Ellington hadn't been given another year, as I thought he was quite highly-rated, but that is CH's prerogative. I'm sure the lad will get a decent non-league club, maybe Bath City/ Weston-super-Mare or one of the Southern League clubs. He needs to take inspiration from someone like Ashley Barnes who was at Paulton Rovers and got a move to Plymouth and is now scoring goals in the Premier League. Or Tyrone Mings, who was here as a 18-year-old, then dropped into non-league with Chippenham Town and eventually got a move to Ipswich and is now in the Prem. Good luck to him. I know you're the man that knows the stats etc lol. I know he went on loan to Salisbury, do you know how he got on? I can't recall reading much about him in the weekly round up of our loan players. If he struggled, maybe that was a deciding factor. DC probably still has close links there and we must have got feedback from them.

What you must remember is that we need to employ another 5 back room staff so no place for a very good youngster who could have earned the club some money Good luck young man and i wish you the very best in the future Well clearly the club do not believe that at this stage he will make it, so frankly if that is the case, then it is the best decision all round. Are you seriously implying that the club would release someone who they think could go on and make the grade?? l guess most parents of the 1000’s of released youngsters feel aggrieved, but most have the dignity and class to accept the decision, which in the vast majority of situations are correct. Sadly in this case the parent chose to have a subjective rant. Why some one on here choose to immediately side with an angry parent against our club says a lot about the negative attitude they automatically adopt. It was a tongue in cheek reply, i'm the last person to ask about who or what is good enough to play for the rovers

Perhaps those lack of goals was a deciding factor like you say.

But I expect we received feedback that he is not ready for adult football. If Salisbury only played him twice, he must be way off league 1 level at the moment. Shame he scored for fun at youth level and I was hoping he was going to challenge for the first team this season.

Now that this has been aired and people have had a chance to express their views would it not be best if the mods locked this thread? Parents all over the country will be expressing similar feelings about their own teenagers etc. and will be disappointed if they haven’t “made it”. But expressing disappointment is one thing but to criticise other players and making allegations against club staff is completely unacceptable and shouldn’t be given space imo. It was a rant against BRFC nothing less. He could even have left himself open to people coming back at him legally, either way he should not be given space to do this imo.The Development squad have all done brilliantly led by CH and others. They should not be made to feel embarrassed. These things happen every year in football and will do in years to come. Come on mods lock this thread. UTG!

On the contrary, its been a good debate, no one has over stepped the mark(for a change...) The dad obviously likes the limelight, why else would he put it out there on social media for all to see. I say carry this good thread on. The dad had a rant against BRFC, no one has responded in kind against him.

Posted by Lewis's dad.. Gav Ellington is feeling disappointed. 1 hr · Bristol Farewell to Bristol Rovers! After my son's very dignified tweet on Twitter saying his own farewell, I thought a more truthful factual post was needed. People who know me know that I wear my heart on my sleeve and say it how it is but I will try to keep this as diplomatic as possible without coming across as a bitter parent. First of all I would like to start on a positive note and congratulate the development squad on there league victory having watched a few of the squad develop from boys into great young men and footballers is fantastic especially Luke Russe who has been there from the beginning and deserves everything he gets because he is a total professional in everything he does. Now to the negatives, yes Lewis has been released, that's life and that is football it is a very cut throat business. But his treatment this season has been nothing short of disrespectful and a Joke. He has been told by Hargreaves that he has one of the best attitudes in the squad but he is 2 years away from being first team ready and the club do not have the budget for this. He is 19 years old so that would make him 21, so I ask the question what is the point of having an under 23's squad? Why do they bring players from the likes of Germany who are 22? The biggest kick in the balls came this week finding out that Ghassan Hassan has been offered another years contract! 😂😂 a player who can hardly even kick a ball and could not even get off the bench at Mangotsfeild and has hardly played a minute of 23's football all season. Maybe this is because his family are financing the budget some how! 🤔 this is the biggest joke of all when a local lad who has been with the club 8 years has been told they do not have the budget to develop him. And let's remember that before his injury this is a lad that scored 30 goals for fun last season in the 18's and 23's combined! Lewis picked up a knee injury early season whilst on loan at Mangotsfeild, he ended up spending over 3 months out injured. He was informed by the doctor that he had suffered a tear to his madiscas, not at one stage was he sent for a scan by the club on this or the correct treatment supplied as it really should have been operated on. Since returning in December Lewis has only been given 2 45 minutes in development games in which he has scored 3 goals. Yet another player who has been offered a contract who plays a similar position has played 90 minutes in pretty much every game since then and not scored a single goal has been offered another year contract. No surprise on this is to find out his uncle is a very good friend of Chris Hargreaves! Whilst I am on the subject of Hargreaves, Lewis Leigh Gilchrist a quality attacking midfielder who has scored a boat load of goals whilst on loan this season but has got nowhere near the first team but Hargreaves son has! Is this a coincidence? No it is not! They are both attacking midfielders but if one has been kept back at the club and not sent out on loan once because he knows he will get seriously found out at men's football and if LLG is unavailable due to his loan then who gets the call! 🤔 if anyone apart from Luke deserved their chance this season it was LLG but he has been hidden away! I know in every walk of life you have favouritism and Nepatism but some of the above is nothing more than corrupt. Im sorry that this has been a bit of a rant and there is so much more I could say but I will leave it there and wish all you gasheads the best for the future as we have both been thankful for the support you have shown him on here and some of the comments that where put on here last season about him. Lewis being the man he has now become shook Hargreaves by the hand today looked him in the eyes and said I can't wait to prove you wrong! And I do hope he comes back to haunt you! 😁 I wish nothing but the best to all the under 23's who actually deserve their massive opportunity to be there! X Gas Go Marching In If you "quote" something you should say where its quoted from. Is this dad happy for it to be shared like this?

He posted it on the "Bristol Rovers Appreciation" group. I believe he owes the club an apology, it was a self centered entitled post and to express views about our young uns like he did was out of order. He did try and apologise afterwards, however any club thinking of taking Lewis on May think twice now (if they see this rant).

We have had many examples of young players doing well at youth level and not making it in the mans game; another young striker we persevered with (prior to the development squad) scored countless goals in the youth team but could not make the break into the first team.
I have know Lewis's Aunt for years through work, his Dad has given a lot of his time driving him round the country for football. Sorry Gav, I think you needed to read your post on farcebook after a cooling off period before posting it.
I wish the young lad all the best alongside all the others that have been released by league clubs this week, may your dreams come true.

Any one who has been involved in youth football from 7 to 16s will recognize this as a typical Parent rant!you get a few at every young footballers games, standing on the touch lines giving biased advice in the strongest terms as they watch with rose tinted glasses as there sons/daughters bust a gut to please, then the coach gets told in no uncertain terms what they are doing wrong!perhaps football should take a leaf out of a boxing gym i know of where parents are banned for obvious reasons!, you sometimes wonder if the kids really enjoy the football with all the pressure some parents put them under! You can not make objective ,informed decisions if you are emotionally involved, you need to be able to stand back and make sound , sometimes tough calls, with out your heart being involved.I can imagine young Lewis saying something like 'Dad , what did you have to go and do that for'?Lewis sounds like a good, level headed lad, and the type who will just dust himself down , pick himself up and work twice as hard to prove Rovers wrong! as for Dad, understand how you fee but stay out of it ,you aint doing the lad any favors, Good luck Lewis and look forward to you coming back to haunt us, hopefully at the NEW GROUND!

Not the first time a parent has been unhappy at the release of their son.
It’s up to the player to prove the coaches wrong and fight to get a second chance just like Chris Lines did.

Pros: Passionate and believes in his son. Cons: Putting down others I say good luck to Lewis. Go prove that CH was wrong. Daddy- you’re not helping your sons case.On what basis do you judge that? Imagine the posts on here if we'd released LH and he'd then signed for the 82er's! Not really sure why GGMI started this thread then backs the club's decision to release Ellington. I wouldn’t say it enharnces his chances of being picked up elsewhere. Managers talk. Even at youth level. If it got disclosed that Lewis’ Dad slated the decision online- others may not be so keen to give him ago. It certainly doesn’t assist his son. Met Lewis once, seemed a great lad, really wish him well. And I’m sure Dad’s nice. Apples and trees. I would just get focusing on the football.

Sorry to hear Lewis has been released. His shirt was sponsored by the SC Bar Regulars.
We hold a post match 50/50 to raise money to sponsor first year pros. The previous players have been, Lucas, Preston, Lyttle, Malpass and Kilgour.
Best of luck to all the young players released.

I think the father is obviously in a grief like state as many dads live vicariously through their kids ( mums too for the PC brigade) He is entitled to his rant & especially as I have seen his boy play and he does look a natural As others have said, look at super Jason Roberts, let go by the sh** but then flourished Ultimately it is now up to the lad himself to show his true character, keep his but down and let his football do the talking My uncle talks with Ollie some Sundays when he gets his cats food and he told me that Ollie said that Zamora would never make it as a pro let alone the prem. Bobby Zamora let his football talk for him. I do empathise with the father about the Jordanian player though as he has not been able to get gametime at a much lower level. If you look on Torquay’s forum and dig a bit then their fans have accused him of having certain favourites and of falling out with players quickly and then not being one whose easy to forgive. Personally I think Hargreaves has done a sterling job with his team but he did inherit a good few decent players. I do not understand those who tout him as a future manager for us though. Just hasn’t got the experience at this level let alone higher up though Brian, who posts on here & goes to every single match our development team play, says he liked the way he sets up to play attacking football All about opinions eh. I think a fair few are being harsh to his dad though. He’s very obviously very hurt and it sounds like there’s been a lack of communication What we have here is a lack of communication ( classic film)
