But is that really our concern, if Wael wants to build a potential Championship chasing club then surely it's up to him how he funds not for us to worry about it, or would you sooner we just tread water in Div 1 for a few seasons before the inevitable happens and DC jumps ship then we finish up back in Div 2? Regardless which successful Div 1 side matches match revenue to expenditure, Walsall trying to do that almost got dragged into the bottom 4. It obviously isn't your concern but then again reading your posts thinking and typing is obviously something you can't do. Why do you find it so difficult to discuss anything with anyone on here without giving personal abuse? You could have just given your opinion on the point he raised - why don't you do that now? I have a related question - I genuinely don't know the answer, had a quick Google but can only see Premier league info - how many of the 92 football league clubs operate at a loss?

pivotal for me will be more expansive news about the training ground - so the dev squad and younger players can train and play matches there ! Back in January I wrote a timeline of events that I hoped (and partly expected) would unfold before August and the start of the new season. So far we have had, in my view, a reasonable January transfer window, a date for submission of Colony plans plus appointment of project managers and the AGM with accounts being published which didn't seem as controversial as the last set (quietly reassuring in my personal view). On top of that we have had the new CEO named, Wael's statement and now this appointment, but set against the loss of Browner and maybe others if some posters are to be believed. Going in May, we should have training ground plans submitted by Tuesday week and I remain hopeful of some stadium update during June. Then into July with player recruitment of 3-5 additions (rather than the 8-10 of last year) before an attack on the Championship next season. This time next year we 'could' (1) be promotion candidates, (2) Phase 1 of the training ground nearing completion and (3) the stadium starting. I do emphasise the 'could' though. Love your positivity, and I hope your "hopes" for the next 12 months are fulfilled. However, and feel free to correct me as I have very limited understanding of these things, is it not going to be a bit of a stretch to think the stadium could start even in a year from now? I would hope that plans can be drawn up, and perhaps a planning application submitted, but knowing how these things have dragged in the past, with approvals, then appeals, judicial reviews etc etc, I would expect any building work startup to be at least 2 years away, if not more. Would be delighted if I am wrong though and it comes about sooner than this!

I will take play off challengers as I doubt we'll get to top 2 challengers anytime soon. Browner going perhaps is a sign DC wants to sign a better player as you sensed this season he was entirely happy with his performance hence why he stopped being an ever present when fit?

As of last year's published accounts (that is the 2015/16 period) all but three clubs in both the Championship and League 1, that is 6 out of the 48 I looked at. edit: just for clarity, that is 6 teams out of 48 which made a profit.

So does that mean it makes sense to operate a business model that losses money because that's the industry norm? If you believe that then its a great time to move into the retail business. Wael and Co are free to follow that path and I'll support that approach when I see them writing off the losses which hasn't happened yet. If they aren't writing off the losses then I would prefer a model that at least tries to live within it's means. And the evidence is that they aren't writing off the losses and holding security over a valuable piece of real estate in Horfield instead.

So you'd sooner we be playing Div 2 or lower football just so we broke even? I bet your in a minority of one hoping the ALQ's cut back spending, sell our best players, let DC leave and we get relegated just so we stop running up debts.

And the evidence is that they aren't writing off the losses and holding security over a valuable piece of real estate in Horfield instead. It doesn't seem to be a case of whether or not it makes sense to do it because it's the industry norm but rather there isn't much of an option at this juncture. Have a league 1 football club which makes million pound losses or don't. To try and paint a football club as a viable candidate for sensible business practices generally is just a ludicrous abstraction from reality. As far as security over a valuable piece of real estate and loans not being written off - why is that something that bothers you to a degree where you'll post about virtually nothing else now? The situation has been the same for the last 22 years. If your gripe is the debt to asset ratio what difference does that make? There's no maximum amount that a creditor must reach before they can liquidate an asset to recover their security - the old board could have done exactly that. Big whoop they'd have left us with 8 mil in the bank - how long would that have lasted? Are you seriously of the opinion that any expenditure on recruitment to improve the playing squad is unnecessary until the books are balanced? If so your criticism appears to be based on fallacious logic.

Think we need a "head of retainment" more than recruitment, wonder how much the guy is getting paid? Maybe one less player we can afford because we have this guy. Looks like it's one of DCs pals though or something.

You’re joking surely, this has been essential for years, we had some old looking bloke scouting about 15 years ago since then we have suffered, is it good down at Ashton?

I just think the whole thing is a bit of a joke, head of recruitment but no money to spend on players, and we're never able to keep any decent players we have, stadium rebuild that is increasingly looking like we're gonna end up with some kind of shanty town like construction of corrugated iron and asbestos. Why do people automatically accuse anyone who doesn't think all is fantastic under the regime as being a city fan? It's weird, I think they must have a propaganda machine with secret forum accounts or something, or people are just stupid and can't see the obvious that everything is not great.

What evidence is there that there's no money to be spent on players? Don't you think that bringing a Head of Recruitment on board would suggest that there is money to be spent on players? I mean, what will a Head of Recruitment do if there's no money to be spent on players? Who will he be Head of Recruiting?

This is the most professional we have been in years, we have a good structure to push on and when fans criticise I wonder why? Surely everyone should be embracing this and looking to a positive future. wael would not authorise this if he did not expect to spend some dinars. it is obvious that the Mem will not be done up, it will be cheaper to construct a new stadium. we have lost players because we have not tied them up or let them have stupid release clauses, it happens to even the top clubs, my second team is Liverpool coutinho who is he?
