Very true, its impossible imo to 'plan' to tread water in any particular league as there is always the danger of relegation, which it looked like we would be in a battle against towards the end of 2017.
You just have to spend well and within your means like I guess Shrewsbury have done this season. If they went up and straight back down again would they really be in that bad a position? I don't think so.
Burton made a profit of 1m last year and will probably do so again this year and come down to L1 again with a squad of better players and a bigger budget, their reputation will have increased too due to the exposure that being in the second tier brings. It wouldn’t exactly be the end of the world if such a thing were to happen to us, I can certainly think of a lot of worse things than that, being relegated from the basement division into a semi professional league springs to mind as one of them. According to DC we can't consider the Championship until we get the club's infrastructure in order, hence, why he's help to convince the ALQ's to spend £1m+ on buying the The Colony and I assume are planning spending at least a similar amount developing the training facilities. Although perhaps we should just ignore what he says as a few posters on Gaschat say we can survive in the Championship w/o our own training ground etc.

All DC talks about is his desire to get the club up to the championship, he might of said we can't compete with the big spenders in this league and the one above until we get the infrastructure in place but he would never not try and achieve promotion because that's just simply not in his DNA. He's a winner. In the second tier, we might just about manage to keep our heads above water for a couple of seasons by salvaging some points at home but I think most posters are in agreement that to survive and even compete in the Championship for a sustained period of time we must put the facilities in place first. It's imperative to do so.

DC also said previously that without the right infrastructure any promotion would be a cameo appearance.
We could go up as we are and momentum could keep us there for a season or two, but maintaining that for longer would need some major investment.
Mind you, DC doesn't do single promotions, imagine tbe Mem on MotD😁

Were, fingers crossed, employing a CEO and have already got a HoR on board, so really by next summer most of the infrastructure could well be in place.

Tommy probably at one of league two playoff games today 👀👀 We had Hargreaves to do the scouting at the National League playoff final. There weren't too many players that impressed me to be honest, Andy Cook and James Norwood looked good for Tranmere and I can see a league two side taking a risk on Bruno Andrade if he keeps scoring for Boreham Wood.

Eddie Clarke is a promising left back for Tranmere and came off the bench for them today. He is being watched by football league scouts.
