Glad to hear it he's a very underrated player I think.

Interesting, retained list seemed to indicate he was already under contract?

Interesting, retained list seemed to indicate he was already under contract? Not that interesting. Looks like the deal was already done, but the paperwork only signed today.

Personally I think James Clarke's quite fortunate to get a contract extension in league 1.
Would imagine he's only going to be used as a squad player

Sorry but I don’t think he’s good enough imo for league one

Think this is a good squad signing. Would definitely not be my first choice at RB but could easily play in a back 3 if DC uses that formation and decent enough cover for CB/RB if we play 442.

Leadbitter yet to sign, probably indicates some hesitation on his part if they were confident of tying down JC but not him. It all depends on the deal offered to Leads and also if there's interest from elsewhere. I can't see it being a great offer from us, otherwise it would have been signed already. His injury problems must be a concern.
JC is a good squad player and always does a steady job when called upon so I'm glad he's staying.

I think Clarke did well enough. I doubt he was 100% fit since his injury, that should be sorted in pre-season. His attitude must meet DCs expectations and with him on the bench covering the back 4 you can load it with 3 strikers.

Pleased he has signed, versatile solid 100% effort squad player and unlikely to be on massive wages. Yes, he isn't going to be a 1st choice starter, but would rather bring in high quality 1st team players and focus on creating a strong 1st XI with reliable back up players like JC who can step in when needed and not let us down. It's all about balancing the budget and creating a squad so trust DC on this one

IMO James is not a right back, he is best playing as part of a back three, for that reason, l see James very much as a squad player, generally playing as cover when others are injured, after all he has no chance of replacing either of the undropables and for me Broadbent has the potential next season to be the best of centre back in the club, which should further limit minutes on the pitch for JC.

I doubt JC is to worried as like Sincs he's probably just glad to get another contract with a Div 1 club.

I agree, a limited, solid back up but not the player who will push us forward

I suspect that is the reason he was offered a contract extension. indeed. squads are going to need 'reliable' squad players He's only "reliable" if he can stay fit. Him and Partington to me are very similar players - IMO neither are a long term solution to the right full back position - 'utility' players that can cover most defensive positions in the short term only. A steady signing nonetheless who will do a job when required. In some respects I'm surprised he has decided to stay - I feel his game time will be limited.
