Ok, I might aswell announce this now, but after a chat with my fellow mods we have decided it would be ok to relax the rules on non-rovers related / England, world cup threads over the next couple of months, so feel free (within reason) to post on the main board....
We decided that with little rovers related stuff going on, it will make things a little more accessible for many, and give more folk a good reason to use gaschat over the summer....
Please be aware that when the world cup finishes usual house rules will apply....
Enjoy

Enjoy Thanks Gregsgas that's probably the right decision on the face of it, quite a few other forums have football in general on their main boards so I don't think it will hurt this one to have a bit more non-rovers related stuff over the summer.

Andy Carroll at 33/1? That might make a decent bet, I reckon Southgate will pick a target man as a plan B, as we will need that height and physicality at some point, so it would be between him and Crouch. Personally I would pick as my 23 man squad: Goalkeepers - Nick Pope, Joe Hart, Jordan Pickford Defenders - Kieran Trippier, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kyle Walker, John Stones, Harry Maguire, Gary Cahill, Ashley Young, Ryan Bertrand, Fabian Delph Midfielders - Eric Dier, Jordan Henderson, Lewis Cook, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Dele Alli, Jesse Lingard Forwards - Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling, Andy Carroll, Marcus Rashford, Jamie Vardy

Nah that's the England C team for when he gets loaned out to Ebsfleet next year.

I agree that many other forums allow general football chat on the main board, but we seem to get a huge amount of thread starts. On a matchday if someone posts a traffic report, or the supporters club post an auction etc.... these threads can find themselves relegated to page2 within a couple of hours and this could be important/relevent information for some users.... All we do is try to give all rovers related threads a chance to be seen....

Goalkeepers -
Jack Butland, Joe Hart, Jordan Pickford
Defenders -
Kieran Trippier, Kyle Walker, John Stones, Harry Maguire, Gary Cahill, Ryan Sessegnon, Danny Rose, Phil Jones
Midfielders -
Eric Dier, Jordan Henderson, Jack Wilshere, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Dele Alli, Jesse Lingard, Jadon Sancho, Raheem Sterling, Ashley Young
Forwards -
Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford, Jamie Vardy
Sessegnon can play anywhere down the left side and Ashley Young can also play both full back roles or wide in midfield. Sancho would be my 'wildcard' pick - I've seen enough of him over the past year or so to know he could make an impact.

Butland, Pickford, Pope
Walker, Stones, McGuire, Cahill, Tarkowski, Trippier, Young, Bertrand.
Henderson, Dier, Alli, Lingard, Sterling, Shelvey, Lallana, Loftus-Cheek, Cook.
Kane, Vardy, Rashford.
Starting XI, in a 3-5-2:
Butland. Walker, Stones, McGuire. Trippier, Sterling, Henderson, Alli, Young. Kane, Vardy.
I wouldn't take Carroll as I think he represents the dark ages of lump it to the big man football, although I concede he is very strong in the air. As for the goalkeeper, no obvious candidate as there are question marks against all four possibilities. Imagine how many caps Nigel Martyn would get now! I've gone with 2 up front as I think both strikers can hurt teams and represent our best strength. But to do that, we need 5 in midfield or we will be overrun. Against the better side there would be a case for playing Dier over Alli in this team.
And we'd still lose to the Germans on penalties.

Leon Bailey is an interesting one. He can play on either wing, has 12 goals and 6 assists in Germany this season and is eligible to be picked. I don't think he will, but an interesting option.

His range of passing off of both feet is a joy to watch at times.

We should send our team, even with Nichols because they would probably do better than what we do actually take.

Is this the weakest England squad ever? Its better than the 2012,2014 and 2016 tournament squads. I think the majority of the squad picks itself. But I would certainly take Sessegnon, the kid is a class act with immense ability and can play anywhere down the left side. Reuben Loftus-Cheek has to go as well imo, again can play left midfield and as a "10", and has pace, power and that bit of guile and craft that can unlock defences which is what England have been lacking for years. Alexander-Arnold should go aswell.

Itll only be a week or so anyway, then we'll be on the plane home wondering why a bunch of overpaid, overhyped brats weren't as good as a bunch of part timers from the local vodka shop.

GKs:
Pickford, Butland, Pope
DEF:
Trippier, Alexander-Arnold, Walker, Stones, Cahill, Maguire, Young, Rose
MID:
Henderson, Dier, Alli, Lallana, Loftus-Cheek, Lingard, Wilshere, Sessegnon
ATT:
Kane, Vardy, Rashford, Sterling
—————
Personally I’d have Shelvey in there, but Southgate clearly doesn’t fancy him.

I do not think Southgate will pick anyone who he hasn't already picked in any of his previous squads. so that rules out the likes of Sancho, Sessegnon, Shelvey etc
