Completely agree with you. Lot of old buggers on the East terrace who would probably have benefited from the option of extra seating and cover. Bit of an odd decision to have 2 family areas, particularly when the South Stand is already very well used for families too. Have to say I disagree. I think this will attract fans that wouldn't otherwise come. A seat, undercover, on the side of the pitch, where you know it's just families around you - I applaud this move and hope it pays off. And near the Blackthorn so should be far more atmospheric than being stuck down the South Stand. The club haven't said anywhere that this is the ground development. It's merely a scheme to give more options to families. Still we haven't had anything to stick the boot in to for a while so this is very welcome.

Am I the only one that finds bending over for this minority ridiculous? I mean maybe it's not in the culture of 'families' to go to football? Surely by sectioning them off on their own we are singling them out? I don't mind if they come as long as they don't openly flaunt their 'familyness' around me. And god forbid if anyone who isn't a 'family' try and join them. Other posters have said all fans should be treated as individuals and I agree. Why should anyone under 9 get a special price? Can I self identity as an 8 year old and get that price? Tongue firmly in cheek here. See how ridiculous the arguments against inclusive programs is when you replace gay or ethic minority with family? I'm looking forward to seeing the new tent... Stand... I mean stand!

Sounds good to me.
2 main points...
1- took my 4 & 6 year old to their first ever match last season. Family terrace. Was ok. I have a passionate dislike of sitting but appreciate I cannot force it on anyone else, especially kids.
They were a bit surprised we were standing & were pretty whiney, but TBH they probably would have whinged a bit in a seat / with a better view.
Took them to 2nd ever game at end of season (5 & 7 by then!) & also brought a friend & his two 8 year olds. They'd been to one match before, at swindle, in seats, so they also sort of expected seats, but anyway, we all went on family terrace and it was ok. Good at the end as we were next to players finishing lap of honour & browner doing his speech.
TBH it was all a bit meh, & the bigger issue was the bloody sausage roll saga & awful attitude of catering staff, but heh ho they're kids and no-one died. It's a proper introduction to football & even though they didn't seem to enjoy it much, they were then buzzing afterwards & talking about it all the time as if it was greatest day if their lives (yes, classic behaviour at that age! 😂😂).
One thing that definitely was sort of expected though was sitting. This new stand sounds perfect. 👍👍 So for god's sake give the club a bit of credit.
2 - what's the thing about the stages of death / grief?
Denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.
Sounds like me with the Mem / UWE.
The UWE was the first 'plan' since I became a gashead (1989) where I was all over it like a rat up a drainpipe. I was planning what train to get and everything. Permission was granted the evening my 5 year old was born - an omen surely!
OMG, finally we are getting a perfect stadium.
Ohhhhh. sh**.
That's where the stages of grief came into it.
Since then the mem has gone UP in my estimations.
You see tinpot. You see tents. You see 8 different higgledy-piggledy stands.
I see choice. A choice of so many places to go, and for people like me, so many wonderful terraces!
Don't get me wrong, the Mem will never help us in the long run, especially in terms of hospitality, meeting rooms, facilities etc, & the club holding its own end of season awards somewhere else tells its own story, but until we improve it properly, or leave, I am learning to love it, after 20+ years!
Acceptance. Not such a bad place to be.
At the moment...

The tent is only temporary. We will be getting a new stadium soon. The tent is temporary but won't be built until Wimbledon tennis week is finished as was the practice a few years ago. When the ball is ping ponging about in the penalty are we should hear the echo in the tent. Love all

Really interested to see how this is going to work. Surely having a tent above the terrace is dangerous... wouldn’t of thought you’d get away with that in this day and age!
But then again this is the Mem haha!

So are we still keeping the Family Enclosure as well as the new stand as it suggests it's "an alternative to" rather than replacing the present family enclosure. I wonder how many seats does it hold/how many standing places will be lost on the North enclosure? Not sure why the club didn't publish an artist impression as to what it should look like when it's built? If anyone can get hold of the plans I could knock-up a quick 3D visual (genuine offer).

Our owners keep their cards so close to their chests it seems impossible to work out whether it's all going to end in tears like Gasincider suggests or it's all going to be positive like Knowall indicates, the fact DC is still staying around as to give you hope it's the latter. Let's hope we get some good news on the training ground front soon.
