www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/2018/may/edupsonsigning/The Club are pleased to announce the signing of midfielder Ed Upson. The signature of Upson is the first arrival of the summer of Rovers, as the twenty-eight-year-old joins the club as a free-agent, effective from the 1st July. A product of the Ipswich Town academy, the midfielder navigated the ranks at Portman Road to sign his first professional at the age of seventeen. Temporary spells on loan at both Barnet and Stevenage allowed Upson to gain a taste of first-team football, before switching to join Yeovil on a permanent basis in 2010. His spell at Huish Park was a successful one, as he part of the Yeovil side that achieved promotion to the Championship in 2013-14, while cementing his place in the first-team. A move to join Millwall followed, joining the south-London side for two full seasons in the Skybet Championship, with his stay at the New Den concluding with a season-long stint in the third tier of English football. Upson was most recently part of the squad at MK Dons, where he featured heavily last season, tallying just shy of fifty appearances during the 2017/18 campaign. In total, the midfielder is approaching three-hundred EFL appearances, with eighteen league goals to his name. Speaking about the new addition to his squad, Manager Darrell Clarke added, "Ed is someone that I have admired for a number of years." "He's a player that has a vast amount of experience at this level and at a higher level also." "Ed adds healthy competition to the central midfield positions and we are looking forward to having him on board.” After finalising the paperwork at the Memorial Stadium this afternoon, the new recruit signalled his delight at getting the switch confirmed at the early stage of the off-season. "I'm pleased to finally be here and to have the deal all sorted,” said Upson. "I met the Manager early in the week and he's a very ambitious person and I know the club is also very ambitious. I think the mixture of those two things could propel the club into the next division.” The midfielder will link up with his new teammates for pre-season.

On a serious note though, apart from last season at MK Dons - he sounds like a great player with a nice CV.
Well done to all

Today Rovers signed midfielder Ed Upson from MK Dons, so we've taken a look into the the 28-year old's background.
Ed spent his youth career at Ipswich Town, signing a professional deal at the age of 17 before going on two brief loan spells at Stevenage and Barnet respectively.
In 2010 after making two League Cup appearances with Ipswich, Ed made a permanent switch to then League One side Yeovil Town, where he enjoyed three campaigns in the third tier with the latter resulting in promotion to the Championship via the Play-offs.
The Glovers however only survived one season in the Championship, but Ed proved his quality at the level and as such was snapped up by Millwall in the January transfer window, avoiding the drop with Yeovil and continuing in the division.
His first full season with The Lions followed in similar fashion to his last with Yeovil, however this time the midfielder stayed the whole season and dropped down to League One with Millwall.
The former England Under-19 international remained for one more season in the third tier with Millwall, before making a switch to his most recent club MK Dons in the same league.
Ed was a mainstay in the Dons side for his two seasons at the club, making 93 appearances and scoring seven goals before switching to the Gas for the next chapter of his career.

And when they were up, they were up.
And when they were down ,they were down.
And when they were only half way up ,he was arrested.

Whoop-whoop!!! Sounds like a good signing, on paper looks like we've got a good player here. Onwards and upwards. How can we afford him when we can't pay the players we have now?? Question Mark??

Good signing. Welcome to the club Ed. Is he a defensive midfielder? He can play a defensive role, but he can do a bit of everything and will chip in with a goal or two.

What position in midfield does he play ? Welcome to the gas !!!!! Squad No 6 for MK last season so most likely DCM? If so, then just what we needed although bad news for OC if that is the case. I assume an ex-teammate of Craig's. A CM of Upson, Lines/Sercs plus Bennett already looks good on paper, just need to sign a decent RW.
