Very good signing. An experienced midfielder who we are all aware of that will be an asset next season from day one. Big welcome goes out Ed Upson. Utg

I think the white covering over the pitch may be the fibre sub-layer that SH and the groundsman were talking about. Presumably this will be covered with a layer of sand then top-soil, onto which the grass seed will be sewn. When the seed germinates, the idea is for the roots to entwine with the fibre layer, thus making the pitch more hard wearing and less likely to cut up. All this professionalism, I find it hard to comprehend! The white stuff you see are the germination sheets. All the soil, seeds and fibre you talk about are already in place under the sheets. They help keep it warm and moist. Your right though about how it should be much mire hard wearing. Should have a cracking surface next season 👍🏻 Righto, I see. I assume these germination sheets will be lifted when the grass is starting to establish itself? Also, is it permeable so they can water onto the sheets? Who would have hought establishing a football pitch would have been so involved and exacting!

ITKers can be forgiven. Corridors of Power being re-carpeted in the close season.

Not a pretty picture that. Last time I read the forum whilst eating my dinner.

It seems to be a real quality signing and this early it's always positive. I am more than happy with this.

Whilst it’s nice for us to sign a player most of us have heard of and few of us had heard of Lee Brown or Taylor or Monkhouse etc every player starts with a clean slate as far as I’m concerned. Big signings can fall flat and unheard ofs can be brilliant, particularly at our club it seems. He does sound like the ideal signing for our central midfield though. Sinclair and Clarke have been injury prone over the last 12 months or more and we have missed the bite in midfield that those two can give us when fit and on form. Hopefully we’ll see Sercmbe getting forward more next season , he’s good as an alrounder but even better as an attacking midfielder but the lack of Sincs and Olly Clarke being out of form saw him deeper than I think is his best position.

It’s already being regularly watered by the pitch sprinklers and the sheets will be removed as soon as the grass seed has germinated. The grounds team have been working tirelessly to ensure the surface is as good as can be. Fair play to all involved

I suppose when you think about it, if they left the seed exposed every bird in North Bristol would be there having the feed of their lives!
And by bird, Bolders, I mean those equipped with wings and beaks, and not the sort of dogs you pursue at the various Grab-a-Granny events you habitually frequent.

Posted on the other forum from a Yoville supporter "This is a very, very, very good signing for you. I obviously know his game from his time at Yeovil and he was a superb player for us. Scored the late winner in the League One playoff semi final v Sheffield United that sent us to Wembley, having already threaded a pinpoint pass through to Kevin Dawson to score the first goal. Good going forward, can do a job at DM if needs be. Had the ability to ping one in from long distance and good from free kicks (think he scored two v Rovers in the JPT one year IIRC). Off the pitch, one of the nicest fellas I have ever met in football. I'd call him a friend to be honest.... have been out for meals with him and his partner, he kindly got me a shirt last season to auction for a charity and although I'm gutted he's not coming back to Yeovil, at least he'll be fairly local to me. Great signing, Gasheads. " Read more: gasheads.org/thread/7487/1st-signing#ixzz5GJYXAR6k

Went to a do at Old Trafford once, and there was still teams of people working on the pitch late at night

Sounds like a good signing. Yet another player that comes highly recommended by fans of previous clubs. Hopefully DC has done the business again with this one. Welcome Ed.

Funny, he physically looks like the kind of player you see in the championship.
