We could have signed Taylor if they wanted but there's got to be some limit. Got to agree with @topper Gas here. Ridicilous comment pirate. Lansdown could go out and splash £100k a week on players if he wanted for City but you have to have some structure. And you can't just suddenly bring a player on a ridiculous wage to everyone else. I trust us to sign a decent LB without going mad on wages. Apparently he's taken a massive pay cut to join them and just wants to play football. “He had to sacrifice some things, which was amazing.” While Robinson would not go into details about the concessions made, he made it clear Garbutt had gone well beyond meeting United halfway. “He probably went 80 per cent of the way, to be honest,” Robinson said. “I can assure you he’s done one or two things to make this happen that I don’t think many footballers would have done.”

I also read that he was on £27500 a week at Everton. 20% of that is still £5500, which would surely be above any of what our players are on. They haven't even signed him permanently, he's on loan.

You have to pay for quality. £5500 for Garbutt would be well worth it considering what someone like Kelly could learn from him. Other good players might even look at him going there and consider going now.

Plus Garbutt needs to focus on his own career before telling others what to do.

You would hope our players are professional enough to accept that better players will help them all achieve a higher level of football and that they would naturally earn more (as would they all if promotion is secured)

There is no doubt in my mind Kelly could have benefited from working alongside someone like Garbutt in training, but he's gone to Oxford so there is no point in dwelling on that. I'm just looking forward to seeing who we bring in now...

Just shows what you can get if you make enquiries. You don't ask, you don't get!

He's got the experience to pass on to Kelly, he knows Stewart, Nichols and Sercombe from his time in Exeter and has experience getting promoted from this division with Wolves, not to mention that he lives in Bristol. I'm not sure what his wage demands are but he would be someone I would look at.

If we are willing to pay a fee I would say Luke Leahy, but I'd probably rather sign someone like Golbourne and put the money towards another quality striker.

Agree, there aren't better realistic experienced free options out there and given the geographical pull we should be able to beat others clubs to his signature. He has played all of his career (bar one loan) in L1 and championship so fits the bill in terms of pedigree.

If I’m honest signing Luke Leahy is a bit unrealistic. Walsall would demand a large fee and would be reluctant to sell to a rival in the same division. Even if we managed to get an offer accepted, there’s no guarantee Leahy would accept unless we offered him substantially more in wages as let’s be honest, at this moment in time Walsall to Bristol Rovers is a bit of a sideways move. I’d take someone like Golbourne or Bola every time over him. I’m hoping we are saving the Bodin/Gaffney money to get ourselves a decent striker.
