Good news. Hopefully the club can take some of the trade back from local pubs.

I believe it is the new club shop by moving it where the bar was, it allows it to be accessed from the car park on matchdays even if you are not in the east stand or the east terrace. Where the bar going is another question?

Believe the national Civil Service Sports Club wish to stop running such venues but have allowed the local branch to take over responsibility for running the clubs. Not sure if that has come to fruition or not in Bristol

Are we getting this lot for free then To be fair Henbury, it does appear as though they are just sprinkling some glitter on a piece of sh1t. It also indicates that we will be staying at the Mem for a pretty long time, without a major renovation/rebuild. I'd prefer it if the owners were honest and just came out and said this.

Is that definate now then, as the last I heard it was just possible. Believe the national Civil Service Sports Club wish to stop running such venues but have allowed the local branch to take over responsibility for running the clubs. Not sure if that has come to fruition or not in Bristol IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR ALL MEMBERS PROPOSED CLOSURE OF THE BRISTOL AREA CLUB On Monday 9th April 2018 the Chief Executive of the CSSC together with the Director of Volunteering and Business Delivery, visited this club to inform the staff and committee of a proposal by the CSSC to close the Bristol club and grounds by 30th September 2018. Can I please stress at this point that we have been advised that this is a proposal and not a decision. The proposal to close the club has been made following the adoption of CSSC’s Estates Strategy which states that club houses and grounds are no longer a part of the CSSCs business going forward. With particular reference to the club, the Resources Committee has concluded that significant investment in the clubs buildings and facilities would be required to make the club a profitable and viable operation. Making such an investment is contrary to the current CSSC Estates Strategy. (Interestingly though the Resources Committee have not visited Bristol be able to come to this conclusion! Not only that but the club accounts presented at the AGM on 11th April 2018 demonstrate that not only is the club financially viable it is also operating at a profit!). In addition the CSSC tell us that there are a number of examples where the closure of a club house and grounds has been the catalyst for a re-emerged more vibrant area association and this is obviously an important consideration for a members organisation. Before any decision is taken to close the club, the CSSC will consider feedback and proposals from employees, volunteers and members. Until this consultation period is concluded and a decision is taken it remains business as usual. Please, as potentially bad news as this may be, there are legal employment guidelines that must be followed regarding our staff and more especially - please remember and respect the position of uncertainty and concern that our staff now face. For many of them this will be a life changing decision and will impact on them and their families should the closure go ahead. During the coming weeks we will be holding a number of meetings so that members who wish to contribute to the process of formulating our response may do so. Please remember this proposal comes from the CSSC and not from the management committee here in Bristol. We will do everything we can to ensure this clubhouse and grounds remains available to the members of the Bristol Area. So please, whilst we welcome constructive and positive contributions – please don’t shoot the messengers – we are all on the same side. If you would like to comment on this proposal and / or the effect it will have on you please e-mail your comments to BristolCSSC@virginmedia.com headed “Proposed Closure” as soon as possible. Please remember to include your name and membership number. The Bristol Club is getting busier than ever with more and more of its’ members enjoying the facilities we have to offer. We cannot replace the sporting activities we offer from Bristol by renting the same facilities elsewhere in the city (which is one proposed solution) – they just don’t exist. Please support us and help us to SAVE YOUR CLUB.

What's the point in refurbing a stand that just needs levelling? Its a waste of money. Be better off spending that in planning applications and architects and building a new stand in the long run. Its like putting a conservatory on the back of your house then knocking it down a year or 2 later to build a proper extension.

The Club informed fans many moths ago that the Supporters shop was closing and the Club shop under the East Stand was relocating. Assuming this is what this is about (that's what I always assumed would happen as access to the Club shop on match days was difficult and the floor area very small and crowded) It all seems very logical if my assumption is correct. All the whingers and critics will be very disappointed there are no new porta cabins or new tents. The other whingers will presumably all be upset that money on fans experience on match day will be improved over spending on more Development squad players. UTG

Our homes are not a business that is open to the public.
If our home were going to have a proper extension then of course there will be no point in putting up a conservatory for it only to be knocked down in a couple of years time. It would be a waste of money for the householder obviously. However, the Mem is not a house. It is open for the public owned by a business. The owners of the business are trying to improve things for its customers. Even if its just a temporary measure. They see the benefit of doing it as it probably will increase their revenue enough over time to recoup what they are spending now for the improvements that are being made and also have gained extra money in the process too to help with other things like maybe the wage budget or help go towards plans for the real redevelopments.

It also indicates that we will be staying at the Mem for a pretty long time, without a major renovation/rebuild. I'd prefer it if the owners were honest and just came out and said this. Doesn't mean we are here for a long time at all. Most of this work will pay for itself within a season. Posted elsewhere..... I am glad I am not the only one who thinks this. Rather than spend money on rented tents, tarting up the SC bar and buying portakabins and sheds, together with the electric turnstiles and new toilets, all of which must be costing somewhere between £250-£300k, surely that money is put to better use architecting and investing in a whole new stand and building that can house all of the above? Ok the cost would be more like £5m but the return on investment would surely be higher than the cobbled together polished turd we will have come August. The turnstiles could be moved to a new or rebuilt stadium. They also take less staff to man and will eliminate people getting in for nothing so effectively they are not really a cost item. The club estimates that the cost of the bar refurbishment will pay for itself within one season from increased footfall and revenue as well as having the benefit of improving the match day experience. The temporary stands will pay for themselves within half a season based on quotes from the chairman when the South West Stand was put in. The toilets are costing the club obviously without return but they needed doing anyway. If we are at the Mem only 2 more years all the costs will be paid for over and again. Its my understanding that the shop and Blue bar will also be sorted this summer and again it's believed that this will yeild a positive balance sheet through improved sales etc within a single season. The pitch is costing us money, but it could be argued that an improved league position on a better pitch may well negate that outlay too.
