I wouldn't say I choose country over club but if Taylor had been playing up front last night I would still have been screaming at him to bury it in the net. I don't think I could bring myself to support any City players in any capacity, not sure how Arsenal fans manage with so many Spurs in there. Perhaps they are grown ups? Having more hatred towards a geographical rival doesn't make you a better fan of your own club than someone else.

Hopefully both get the chance to prove it with regular first team action in the prem, preferably in a club playing European football. I'm not sure either will get it though, especially Foden who I understand isn't being allowed out on loan and will just get scraps of action. Guardiola rates Foden very highly and is set to offer a new five year contract. I don't think it will do him any harm staying at Man City for another season and continuing to develop under Guardiola and with the quality Citeh players there. He made five appearances for them in the Premier League last season, recording one assist, and featured three times in the Champions League. I can see him playing even more next season. Has he moved down the pecking order with Mahrez having signed?

I didn't say it did eric. Don't be so precious I know you don't agree with many of my posts as you normally stick a dislike on it. Maybe just ignore altogether eh?

I would have prefered to play England in final for the beauty and the history, but the Croatia had the experience and the focus maybe England had not. Last night Marcel Desailly said smthg interesting on French tv; this prolongations for Croatia in quarter final and eighth built them a mental. They knew they can fight and win. England they built something on this tournament and won the pride they hadn't lately. Maybe they just missed a little more awareness of themselves and their team strength.
For sunday i just hope now the players are vaccined against the Portugal syndrome. And hopefully monday morning i'll still be singing.

The team and manager brought some respect back to English football and handled themselves very well and for that I'm grateful. It's a good team but clearly still short of that bit of class needed to beat the better teams. That said a golden chance was missed to progress to the finals but we were simply short of a couple of world class players that would have give us that creativity needed to succeed at this level. Agree westwindy. But when we one up and had opportunities to score again if we had it would have been all different. Croatias great midfielders all went missing in that half but that will be forgotten after the result. Yes, we probably were short of a couple of world class players but it’s very, very fine margins. That second goal goes in and it’s a whole different result. Then everyone would be writing a different back page and us fans would be saying different things. But we didn’t so they aren’t. Well done England you did great but both Kane and Alli looked to be carrying injuries and perhaps that lack of depth was part of the fine margins we were just the wrong side of. UTG!

Totally agree with both of the above posts. Also worth mentioning that when we look back ( for those of us who are old enough to remember) at the 1990 side that also got to the semi finals they were a mixture of experienced pros who had won European cups and many titles all over Europe and they basically did what our current young and inexperienced team have just done, beat a couple of average sides in the last 16 and quarters then gone out to players who play for top European sides. Many look back on that team as National hero’s. The 1990 team broke up after that tournament because many of them retired but this is only the beginning for most in fact other than Young ( who I thought did very well ) theyll most probably improve and be available for selection in two years time with the experience of this World Cup behind them. Engerland and Up The Gas.

For a refreshing change we had a good run ,croatia wanted it more ,on to the next set of challenges ,good manager ,good players ,good 12th man . Shows the talent is there just need a bit of polish around the edges Do you really think Croatia 'wanted it more'? It's often a label applied to a winning team but surely it was more about their better quality and experience than desire? yup i do believe that ,they dug in for the last goal ,maybe it's just me but i felt if they were that much better then we would have been dead and buried in the first 1/2

Just cannot see the current side falling short on effort or desire. Croatia were just a bit better overall, we were better first half but they made some minor tweaks allowing their strength (the midfielders) to take control and we either didn't have players of sufficient quality/experience to overcome that or Southgate couldn't come up with a solution. With a favourable draw at Euro 2020 (provided we qualify) we could go far again. The corrupt cup in Qatar 2022 will be extremely difficult for us - the air conditioned stadiums they lied about in the bribing, sorry bidding process, won't be delivered.

Why will 2022 be difficult for us? I would like to think we would have an even better / more experienced squad by then. Oh and I sat in one of the air conditioned stadiums a couple of months ago. It was turned up to much and I was p*ssing freezing!

I recall shortly after winning the bribery contest Qatar announced they were reducing their WC budget by half and there were doubts they would deliver their promise of all stadiums having air con. That was a major part of a WC being feasible there and with no stadium ever having been built with it before it's amazing that FIFA voted for it (until you remember what sort of crooks they are) as their technical committee inspectors gave it the lowest score of the bidding countries. Platini changed his vote to them after a Sheikh met with Sakozy and by coincidence Platini's son found himself being offered a very well paid job in Qatar. I understand there is just one air con Stadium at the moment. If all of the others get it too fair play - that may give us a better chance but we still have to train in ridiculous heat.

Whilst I agree with everyone regarding the way the WC was awarded I’ve no doubt that everyone will be ready well on time. All the new stadiums are now under construction with the first ones to be ready by the end of this year. They will be air conditioned but with the tournament in Nov/Dec there isn’t much need for it. It won’t be any hotter than any of the games were in Russia.
