Spoke with DC after the fans forum and he was incredibly honest when it came to a search for a striker...
He wanted both Stockley and Doidge but was quoted over £750k meaning we couldn’t afford them.
Bogle is on approx £10k a week so even with Cardiff paying 50% of his wages, he’d still be out of our reach. Plus he’d have 5 or 6 teams after him.
He is looking at both Devante Cole and Joe Nutall as loan deals but didn’t say if either was close. They were “possibly on the burner.”
Make of all that what you will.

If all he says is true then those figures are crazy. No way is Doidge or Stockley worth that nor Bogle worth £10k. B***** me the football world is a crazy place. With only a few strikers at the moment it’s probably not the right time to say this but I’m glad that Rovers aren’t going to pay silly money or wages to destroy the squad ethos. Loans sound a bit more hopeful again if true. But if all this is so go to the lower leagues and get some younger, hungry players who to quote DC (tonight) “have the desire and are fit”. UTG!

Good work!
Devante Cole and Joe Nuttall would certainly be big upgrades to our attack, but I can only imagine the (understandable) anger if we sell our best striker for £750k+ and then bring in two loans...

I wonder if there would be any possibility of inserting an option to buy clause in their loans. I wouldn’t be against it if that was the case, both Nuttal and Cole have the potential to score quite a few at this level.
Thanks for the info.

That's what I'm wondering too Axegas, DC doesn't seem the type to want to do other clubs favours.

The game is crazy. Look at Salford paying a couple of players £4,000 per week in the National League. I was personally speaking to a manager in the National League South during the past week who was frustrated about not being able to compete for players at that level because some are being offered £900 a week and claimed there are even some already earning over £1,000. £900 or £1,000 per week for playing part-time football in the 6th tier!

Depends on the loans. If it's players with league 1 experience like them, think most will find it ok. There wages won't be cheap either. If it's 2 players with no league experience, that's totally different. Some fans will still moan though lol

DC said in his interview on the weekend that he doesn’t like standing in a players way if they want to go to the championship, I guess the fee was acceptable to the board considering he had one year left on his contract and off he went.

Absolutely right. Whether we like it or not, we cannot go spending stupid money like that when we're losing so much each year. It would also destroy everything DC has built up to smash a wage structure if these figures are correct. DC knows this - it's not a 'him against the board' thing here. I'd be perfectly happy if we didn't buy anyone but got two decent season long loans in. In fact, until there is a better and realistic option, it makes sense. All we seem to hear though is that Wael (or the family) should put the money in himself. Why should he? Christ, there's some here moaning about paying £4 or whatever it is for a beer but expecting the Al Qadis to donate £750k for one player! We are not bankrolled by a Stephen Lansdown so must cut our cloth accordingly.

I know a few weeks ago we close to getting a young lad from Man City on loan who is very highly rated. Sorry don’t know his name . Just thought I’d say..... no more info in case anyone asks.

On the contrary doesn't it emphasise how bad we are at getting the best price for our players if other clubs are quite happy to price us out of a deal?

Blimey pirate those figures are even more crazy. So are these clubs trying to do a “Salford”, or Fleetwood, or even rich wannabes like the guy at Billericay? There are only 92 league places so are these clubs trying to buy the dream? I wonder how many of these are sustainable “professional” clubs or whether they will not be able to sustain it or even want to. The examples of Colne FC from the 90s, Telford from the early 00s or even Rushden and D spring to my mind. They were in smaller places which weren’t able to sustain the club. Salford, I suspect, might be able to sustain it. High profile owners who are looking to develop other income streams in a rapidly growing, economically vibrant area mean they have a good chance of making it a success. Thanks for posting that. UTG!
