Hardly donating you fool it’s what we have just received for a player Ok, poor choice of word. But the principle remains that when we are losing so much every year, it's unrealistic to expect that all transfer money received will be spent. It never has been and probably never will be. But back in the Holloway days he was allowed at least 20-30% of the transfer fee to spend on strengthening the squad. Fairly immediately. If he sold a player for £1m he got at least £250k to spend. In todays value thats the equivalent of selling for £2.5m and spending £500k. Except we haven't spent anywhere near that. Ever.

DC also challenged me to name a number 9 and he will tell me about him hence the players I mentioned in the first post. Interestingly, Nuttall was the only name he bought up himself which makes me think he maybe closer. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45011507Blackburn have just loaned a 21 year old forward today from Chelsea, Kasey Palmer. So it could be very close.

If all he says is true then those figures are crazy. No way is Doidge or Stockley worth that nor Bogle worth £10k. B***** me the football world is a crazy place. With only a few strikers at the moment it’s probably not the right time to say this but I’m glad that Rovers aren’t going to pay silly money or wages to destroy the squad ethos. Loans sound a bit more hopeful again if true. But if all this is so go to the lower leagues and get some younger, hungry players who to quote DC (tonight) “have the desire and are fit”. UTG! On the contrary doesn't it emphasise how bad we are at getting the best price for our players if other clubs are quite happy to price us out of a deal? Perhaps but not necessarily. Just because the clubs want what they say doesn’t mean they will get it. I bet they will accept a lot less in the January before they can go on a free. I like Stockley but he is not mobile, his first touch has never been the best and he’s not worth £750k. Doidge I’ve only seen about 3/4 times and his scoring record is better than his performances but imo he’s not worth £750k. And when he is sold nearer his contract end like most players it will be “undisclosed” so no one will know how much but I bet it’s nowhere near what they’re saying now. And I reckon what we got for Ellis, and again, we don’t know how much it is, but if it was £750k then I think that’s about right and even more than some were predicting. I was more about making the point that I’m glad we’re not paying the silly money clubs are asking. I hope we go elsewhere and get better value. DC said tonight he looks at a players desire and how fit he is, there will be players like that that he can afford. UTG!

Let's hope no scouts are reading this and have been alerted to the potential deal and step in with a better offer then . About Joe Nuttall: “Ewood boss Tony Mowbray admits a loan move could follow for the former Manchester City youngster should he bring in the attacking players he wants. Looking at this , in an admittedly simplistic wavy and ignoring the relative merits/demerits of the players concerned, if earlier on in this thread it was mooted (by DC) that we couldn’t afford a particular player from the Championship due to possible wage issues, how come we can afford a different player from another Championship club? (albeit one that has just made it back there).

They spent easily £500 k a season for years. Ellington Hayles M. Evans S. Jones Roberts Cureton Thompson 'the Latvian' cost at least £2 million ( the lot ) and there were many others more recent like Lambert Duffy Williams Pipe Hughes Kuffour . We made about £ 1.3 million since January and spent nothing hardly..

But you have to speculate to accumulate and we could spend next to nothing now on sh** and struggle, and because of this struggle which sees attendanceside etc. Or spend 750k on a striker smash our transfer record get everyone buzzing, get crowds up etc and prob earn that money back. We don’t want to be in a position in January where we need to spend 750k to try and stay up rather spend it now

May I say a big thank you to all who have contributed to this thread, what a refreshing change to read a sensible football debate instead of the usual garbage and abuse that has been written in these past few weeks. RTID

Why would you want to wait until January to spend money to improve our chances of doing anything this season, when we could be strong from the first kick.

We don’t want to be in a position in January where we need to spend 750k to try and stay up rather spend it now In principle I agree that you have to speculate to accumulate, but there is still a limit. There has to be. What we don't know is whether we've reached it or not. Spending 750k though causes a problem. In general, players of that value don't come to League 1 clubs and if they do, their wage demands may be such that it breaks our structure. Paying money doesn't guarantee goals (reference Tom Nichols), and if the player earning say double what everyone else is earning isn't performing, that can breed discontent very quickly and potentially ruin one of the main pillars that has carried us a long way in a short period of time...team togetherness.
