Or we actually don't have any money. Occam's razor. You may well be right but I think both simple explanations are equally credible ... or maybe the truth is somewhere in between? I think the quote from DC that he doesn't have any money to spend is much simpler than the implication that he does have a lot of money to spend, but he pretends he doesn't.

When will some get their head around FFP? When the rest of the clubs in every league also start observing the rules.

If we lose there are always questions to answer, but doubt if they’re “massive” in August. All managers, incl DC, trying to find best 11. We really need to wait until the result comes in before doubting him. If we lose? Fortunately we didn’t so let’s enjoy the win. UTG! Obviously 18 teams have done that better than us so far. Pre season is the time to decide your best team and formation. Did Pompey look like they are trying to find their best team? Every year we go through this nonsense; remember the fans getting on the bus in the Conference? To me it says something about DC. Perhaps he cannot make up his mind about things, who knows, but the teams that come out of the blocks flying are usually there at the end of the season. Personally I think DC has "Little Club" syndrome. "we are not big hitters in this league" and of course budget, budget is now his only excuse. Last season Shrewsbury, who I would say are a smaller club than ours , maybe a similar budget did so well up until the end. But why cant we? Personally I think DC has too any players that are mediocre in this league, and to some he is too loyal. Some look good in our team because they have a few good games, now and then. Every season he adds to the squad, but we all know that sometimes he needs to drop Lockyer, he rarely does. Mediocre players, well we all have our own ideas but they don't look like DC's. To me Ollie Clarke, The Beard, James Clark, Smith, and Partingdon are all just "OK" players, and I think we could manage without them, and get eventually get some better players in. He moans about budget, but if we had a good squad of 20 rather than a mediocre one of 24 or what ever we would do better. And the added bonus is that he wouldn't have so many to chop and change. We need a strong first team where we have 1 plus good goalie cover; 2 full backs as cover; 2 midfielders as cover; 2 forwards as cover and a utility player. I make that 19 Don’t disagree with a lot of what you’ve said but sorry, not sure why you’ve quoted me. Even with the numbers you’ve suggested DC, and any manager would be still looking for his best 11. I suspect Fleetwood we’re searching for their best 11 after a few defeats but found a decent one last night! Yes we are slow starters and like you I wonder why we are but your opinion about the “just ok players” is just that, an opinion. SS and Joe P I really do like and at their best will be good enough for us. But I suspect that’s where we are at the moment, we’re ok, hopefully we will keep away from the relegation fight but unfortunately won’t worry the better teams at the top. I’ve said in several posts that we’ve got lots of midfielders and DC will need to choose and perhaps stick with it for a few games which will mean leaving some decent players out. But I think 19 players as the squad would be too small come December and January when injuries and suspensions kick in. I wouldn’t want to put words in your mouth or presume what you’re saying but if you mean that having only 20 players in a squad rather than 24 would allow us to have a better quality of player because of the economy saving then I would agree but I’m not sure that’s the owners plan. This window has shown the limitations on the budget and going into the first match with only two strikers on the books show me that we were never going to get the bigger names for this league that others were saying. The comparison with Shrewsbury is going to be made several times this season. I didn’t see the Accy match but was there last night and at the Crawley match. We should have won last night but we didn’t, we played well in patches but weren’t consistent. Our players made more mistakes than Pompey. Another night it will be different. We will get a bit of luck, the Pompey goal will go over the bar, their keeper won’t make a worldly save. It is fine margins. UTG!

Two men who need to push the return button occasionally. Best wishes

That's true, lpgas, but these are things we can work on. Give DC time and we will overcome these issues.
