So DC confirms that this is in fact a season long loan deal with an option to make it permanent in January, so he will never play for the club again as even if Lincoln City decide they don’t want him, his contract ends next summer. Not sure why it was reported to be a seven day emergency loan initially.

I would say that dc needs to get slocombe off the wage bill before he can bring in a loan keeper and it was a now or never chance when lincoln came in for him. Lets see what happens.

Apparently Sam Slocombe only moved into his new house in Scunthorpe last Sunday and seems to think DC was wanting to bring a new keeper in.When asked on The day after about the loan, he felt that DC was quite happy to let him go. He had been commuting from Bolton the whole of last season and has just completed the move from there. This is from Lincoln's website and local news site. This would definitely seem to suggest the loan to the end of season when his contract with us is up is the likely outcome.

Slocombe must have been looking to move back home a while before last Sunday, you don't move into a new house overnight, and you don't move from Bolton to Scunthorpe if you are committed to Rovers. Another case of DC not sorting a keeper crisis in the summer, exactly the same as when we got promoted back into the league and only had Mildenhall and Puddy.

Who knows which came first, the house purchase or the feeling he was not wanted by DC?
Anyway full marks to the guy for moving on once he got the message he was not really wanted.
Good luck to him, never great but a good league 2 keeper.

He started this season as number one, and played many games last season.
Commuting from Bolton for a season shows a certain low level of commitment. Personally I wouldn't sign ANY player who intends to do that.
That's quite a fast move if he only decided to move house after being dropped.

Possibly or perhaps he could not afford to buy a place in Bristol on his wages?

It doesn't have to be in the city of Bristol. Several who worked for my company commuted from Chepstow, Bath, W-S-M and even Exeter.
I cant imagine any pro footballer would have any problem affording Bristol house prices though tbh.

Average house price in Bristol: £325K Average League 1 wages: £68K Three-times mortgage on £68K: £194K Chance of being given a 3X mortgage on a career with an average span of c. 15 years? No idea. Average house price in Scunthopre: £140K
I am a home owner in Bristol (amongst other places) so know how much things cost here, but you cant say 15 years when they can carry on working after football.
It all begs the question why Slocombe signed in the first place

I suppose you could rent but £1000 to 1500 a month is a lot out of anyone's wages.

Yeah, I took the bits about the mortgage out of my post, coz I thought it was largely irrelevant, and I really don't know how footballers, etc, are considered by mortgage companies. Thinking about it, probably no different to anyone else.

Cos he needed a job and wanted league football? Then realised it's no fun commuting and living in a studio flat?

I don’t think buying a house in Scunthorpe is a lack of commitment. He was buying because it’s his home area and he’s starting to get on, so buying for the future.
Doesn’t mean he’s not committed to here in the present but when he’s just bought his house and D.C. comes and offers him a loan out when he knows he’s looking for competition he knew his time was up here

I would question the lad’s sanity buying a house in Scunthorpe. I’ve spent a bit of time in Scunthorpe myself and it’s a disgrace. There’s not many places that are a step down from Bolton, but Scunthorpe is one of them.
