Awful. Too slow, caught on the wrong side of his attacker consistently. Hung out to dry as he's not a left back. Criminal that having lost Lee Brown in May that we have failed to replace him But we did replace him? Just the guy is injured.

Should mention as well, I think the other Clarke (Ollie) has started the season well too, after a poor season last year.

Like the bloke, he tries hard but ultimately lacks quality imo (could be describing 90% of our squad though in all honesty). Jack of all trades, master of none so to speak. Excellent squad player to have around and certainly did better than most like night.

On last nights display I thought JC looked a better player than Lee Brown, even out of position.

Personally I rate the lad.
Be interesting to see how much he improves with a full season in the team and playing more often than not. I think there's still a lot more to come from him.

I like JC and yes, he did get out paced by their bloke (great rugby tackle though James!!) but not every player in a team has to be Usain Bolt! I've liked JC ever since he joined the club and glad that he's having a great start to the season.

Didn't realise how fast JC was, there was a break in the second half, where he caught and flew past Bennett.
You can also see that the goal last weekend has given him confidence, I know he was a LB, but it also meant he can cut inside and try a shot or two.
I think his frame is all wrong mind, but it appears to work and he's a top lad!
Wouldn't mind seeing JC at CB, then again I wouldn't mind Broadbent playing there, seeming as he can head and is over 5ft tall...

Well I started this thread last week, so I will bump it with a almost complete opposite view to last week, but to be fair Matthews wasn’t any help. J.c got a lot of stick from crowd tonight but I thought he was doing the right thing standing up to there quality winger and not getting a foot in trying to hold them up. Lacked any support but ultimately not great. Kelly played alrighty.

I think with JC he’s damned if he does - damned if he doesn’t. Maybe not a natural looking footballer but this would apply to a couple more in the squad right now. Give the lad a break. There’s more tinkering to come so the lads don’t know their ass from their elbow ATM, I’m rating him (for us at our level) and I know the game a bit - it all hinges on DC’s approach. I for one would prefer us to set up to our own strengths as opposed to analysing the opponents each week. DC and his weekly projects - FFS let them worry about us - don’t waste time second guessing everybody else in the league. Fair comment??

Because he was getting skinned by their winger from the very first minute?
I think you're making excuses for him there tbh

I've always maintained JC is a solid pro and did well for us in non-league and League Two, but isn't League One quality.

Because he could barely run at times despite the ball being nowhere near him. He didn't look injured when he got done early on but either he was putting on a very good act in the second half to get taken off or he was genuinely injured.

Could have sworn I saw him playing in the conference, must have been for one of his previous clubs. The point remains, decent for League Two, but not League One quality.

I cant see any point or gain in taking each and every player apart. Hopefully this sad forum dosnt represent the majority of rovers fans. Confidence is low and the team is struggling whats the point of putting the boot in when the team is at a low ebb?

Confidence is low and the team is struggling whats the point of putting the boot in when the team is at a low ebb? He got high praise from me last week which I felt the need to state after the game but, I didn’t start a negative against him, and stated that he took the brunt from the fans, but feel Matthews isolated him. With praise comes criticism. Look 4wd to bumping it again next week with a more glowing report on J.c but that’s down to him and his team mates.
