Not the most disastrous but ultimately disappointing evening, but a huge positive not just tonight but, so far this season is James Clarke. Missed pretty much all last season, but I think he is playing really well at l.b, He can play anywhere in the back line and I’ve always thought he’s a decent squad (cover/sub) player. I now think with his start to the season he is a hell of a lot more better than I gave him credit for. What is his natural position because I genuinely don’t know? Keep it up James. 🤜

His passion for the team really showed tonight too!

He’s like a Stuart Sinclair in defence.

Awful.
Too slow, caught on the wrong side of his attacker consistently.
Hung out to dry as he's not a left back.
Criminal that having lost Lee Brown in May that we have failed to replace him

Great yellow card saved a very promising break, always gives 109 % , when THD plays left back might see him right back.very underrated player.

I think he did well individually but I also think him playing there is a real contributing factor to the lack of width issue.

I like James Clarke and I think he's done well not in his natural position but especially at home we need someone with a decent left foot and a bit of pace for the overlaps.
Hopefully Tareiq can be that man in the near future.

Yes he did do well. I actually think he's been one of our most impressive players so far this season. Ok, he's not got Leadbitters pace but he is better than him defensively and can still get forward.
He's proving to be a very versatile player for us and I would much prefer to see him playing at LB than Craig whilst we wait for THD to get fit.

Anyone what we signed him up as? I thought he was a RB but the biography on the club website says: "With Rovers' return to the Football League assured, manager Darrell Clarke's first signing was strong central defender James Clarke."

Think J.Clarke has come on a lot this season, great utility player to have in the squad.
Positioning is always going to be a slight issue when you consider he is a centre back who is playing on his wrong side as a fullback.
Great rugby tackle to stop essentially a 1 on 1, taking a yellow for the team.
Would’ve put him up in the top 3 performers tonight along with Bennett and Nichols.

I think its an awkward arrangement having james clarke and liam sercombe struggling to make light of playing in a position which isnt natural to them. Totally agree that jc played well and gave everything but hes not really comfortable there and affects it the balance of the team. Only one left footed player in a professional football team is very rare and a recipe for disaster imo.

Only one left footed player in a professional football team is very rare and a recipe for disaster imo. Looks comfortable along the whole back line. Once new lads fit (lb forgive I forget his name) I hope j.c can then challenge at c.b as I see that position is a priority x2 that needs addressing. Rumour is lumley is joining us on loan with a view to a perm deal. Far from reliable info but would make sense after today’s transfer dealings. And ultimately smith was awful with not just his distribution tonight and last week v accy. Keep them on there toes. Lumley fingers crossed 🤞

Funnily enough was saying the same during the match yesterday. He is not the best player by any stretch but I do hold my hands up, as I would have released him in the past. But when I think about it, he never lets us down wherever he plays and doesn't make many mistakes. He doesn't offer a great deal going forward but he's a great squad player to have. Well done James.

I've always liked JC.
You get 100% effort and he always does everything to the best of his ability.
Cracking squad player.
