I'll give him time and a chance before slating him What worries me is this all smacks of last minute desperation..... DC made it clear he wasn't keen on loans, and yet here we are 6 games in and we are desperate for anyone to fill gaps and we have to ship one out to get someone! I pray DC stays, but he must look back at this period as a time he got a lot wrong. Let's hope we stay up. That's really all we can hope for this season.

WOW, that's nice of you.

so he had no club when we got him ? I don't think this debate is actually helping much..... Only trying to establish that Billy Bodin was without a club when he signed for us, hence a "step up" in his career

From a Millwall fan on 1FF: "Takes a mean free kick and is an honest pro. That’s about all that can be said about Joe Martin." I really hope that our budget isn't so thin that we have to loan a player out to be able to sign a Stevenage reserve LB on loan.... Our budget is massive thanks to the Al Qadis. 6th richest club in the country. Lol.

so he had no club when we got him ? Bodin was a young, hungry & talented player who was injury prone. This guy is supposed to be in his prime but instead of being injury prone, can't get into a L2 team because he isn't good enough. Bit Like Ellis was with us then

Martin has played allot of his football in the Championship and League 1, he was well liked by Millwall fans, he played 45 games for Stevenage last season so they must of been fairly happy with him. I suspect he was on a good wage for a league 2 player to have dropped down to that level. Stevenage may well want to reduce their wage bill, that maybe a reason why they have let him out on loan. Millwall fan: "Joe Martin is a real candidate for anyone's worst all time Millwall XI. He hasn't even got a comical value like true greats.....Cuff and Bowry."

Nothing to prove he wasn't good enough perhaps like DC did in the past with Mildenhall, McM & Easter etc the Stevenage manager just decided to try and freeze him out by not playing him. Clearly THD was DC's first choice LB but that hasn't worked out so far, I just hope there's still enough money left to get in another CH.

Why thank you! The point I'm making is that many fans won't give him time before slating him.

I guess another problem DC now has - if he plays THD the club have to pay Huddersfield every time he makes an appearance.

Personally I think we should have persevered with Kelly. He has done ok with his 2 appearances and he can only get better. Joe Martin is not going to improve. I'm beginning to think it is a waste of time having a development squad. For DC it is ok to play them in cup games, mainly because he is not bothered about cup games as our FA cup record proves. Other than that then none of them step up and play regulary, and so, why do we have a development when we can sign any journeyman at the drop of a hat.

From the Stevenage forum... "What sort of world are we living in where Joe Martin can go back up a level?" "Football is a funny game. Full of old mates that look after you. He won't play much I can't imagine." That phrase sums up my fears about what Rovers transfer policy has become.

Has DC ever promoted anybody from the development/youth sides to 1st team regular ? Can't think of any

No, we pay him every time he plays, thats what I thought?
If we do have to pay Huddersfield, then just don't play him, simples.

Putting aside whether he is any use to us or not for a moment, if you are Stevenage in the league below ours you have got to be pretty happy that you have got a guy who can't even get on the bench off the wage bill.
That should give us pause for thought before anything else.
