If we had just signed Messi and Ronaldo some fans on here would still be underwhelmed.

Pathetic posts on this thread. We sign an experienced player on loan and as fans we see how he performs, then after several games we form an opinion. Thats how it works surely?
Fair comment, but you can see why some fans would be underwhelmed with this signing.
Takes a decent free kick apparently.
Yes I understand that but we’re Bristol Rovers not Man U. UTG!

I'm not slagging off a player before they have played but its very rare to see a player of his age loaned by a club in a higher division. Looking at views of fans at previous clubs, if he is the best option we had then it does make you wonder how financially f**ked we are at the moment. Certainly not one you expect to be chosen to help plug our defensive hole.

you get a lot of rolls with Ronaldo, then he gets up when the free kick is awarded...

It’s only until Holmes Dennis is fit , dc clearly doesn’t have enough faith in Kelly at lb , and doesn’t want Clarke to play there either. If we didn’t have Holmes Dennis and Martin was our main left back I’d be slightly concerned but he’s merely a temporary fix.

Shouldn't we be getting the Championship player on loan, instead of the player he is replacing in Div 2 ?

I’d rather have a LB with plenty of experience under his belt in the football league rather than a youngster from Birmingham, that’s just my opinion. I get the feeling DC would rather play Kelly than get another teams youngsters in but what he really wants is a senior pro to have the position.

Why would we want a 20 year old with no experience as opposed to a 29year old with over 300 senior appearances?
Kelly had a god debut on Tuesday imo and hopefully the first of many to come but a short term loan of a highly experienced player makes complete sense to me.

If we had just signed Messi and Ronaldo some fans on here would still be underwhelmed. You didn't really just compare a left back who can't get into a league 2 squad to Messi and Ronaldo?! It's a bit like Preston signing Alex Rodman on loan. Like all players I'll give him a chance but it is a worrying sign of DC's budget.

Certainly did him no harm and should have scored also. We needed cover in that position so it’s a good all round deal to me.

Doesn't it just? All the hallmarks of having given up and accepted that we are on the way down.
Well-travelled defender Guy Branston was brought in on an emergency loan deal from Aldershot Town late in November 2012 to help patch up an injury-ravaged Rovers defensive line. With Cian Bolger, Adam Virgo, Tom Parkes and Garry Kenneth all unavailable for selection, Branston provided vital cover.
His debut for The Gas came on 24 November 2012, in a 3–3 draw with Bradford City. He scored his only goal in the blue and white quarters just over a minute into the game, which saw him celebrate wildly due to him being released by The Bantams earlier in the year.
We should have signed Bolger when we had the chance, he was better than Parkes

If we had just signed Messi and Ronaldo some fans on here would still be underwhelmed. Too true StP....Sad to see that humility we had as a non-league club, grateful that any player wanted to take up the challenge of wearing the blue and white quarters to strive to turn us around, has evaporated. It has been replaced by the usual arrogant, toys thrown out of prams attitude that infects so many Football Clubs and their "but I want better" fan bases. Yes we should all aspire to achieve more, improve the team's quality and position...but that can take the form of small steps as well as large, and sometimes you need to take stock and regroup before you make headway again. At this stage of this season, a player has been identified that can add value to what we currently have and can address a temporary imbalance in our available team roster, let's just encourage them to be the best they can be whilst they represent our club eh?
