I appreciate it's not great supporting Rovers at present, but believe me, it can't be as bad as when the above managers were in charge. I can't remember the years and even most of the games have been wiped from my memory, but can some of the posters with better memories than me recall any of the best/worst games and best/worst players we had...One thing I do remember is the huddle before the games with fans being invited from the terraces...

3-0 defeat at home to Scunthorpe, Peter Beagrie making our defenders look like traffic cones.

Those were some dark days! It annoys me when people moan so much at the moment, I don't recall so much moaning back then, or even when in non league!
It was around these years when for some reason almost every home game we would shoot towards the Blackthorn in the first half. I've never known why that was done for so many years?! Always depressed me when we would go in at half time 1-0 down then attacking the far end in the second half!
I remember one game, I think it was designated as scarf or flag day or something like that. I think we played Scunthorpe? Got smashed 4-0 I think? I remember as soon as the final whistle went, Kevin Miller walked from his goal (at the Blackthorn end) and just walked straight down the tunnel! No hand shakes, no appreciation for the crowd, just nothing!

According to some on here, this is the worst football they've seen in past 40 years.
If you're reading this, take a long hard look at this thread!!!!!!!

Those feel like very different and in some ways much better days looking back. An era before internet warriors and crazy supporter expectations. The football was largely crap but the gasheads got behind the team like real supporters should.
Will it ever come back? The non-league season felt like the gasheads were the twelth man again but no one wants that predicament back again.

Craig Disley and his Mansfield side tearing us apart at the Mem!
Having to qualify just to get to the first round of the league cup, but getting beaten at home to newly promoted Boston!!!

The Graydon era was the most depressing s***e, we were in a proper mess. Unappealing signings like Danny Boxall, Paul Tait etc.
That being said, to be fair to Graydon we were never in the conference under his watch (although more by luck than judgement I think).
As bad as that era was, would you rather have been back to the Graydon regime in league two on the opening day of the conference season? I know I probably would!
As for Atkins, the players he signed were not bad. He just had the wrong attitude and tactics.

Atkins signed a lot of the players that eventually got us promoted from League Two in 2007, he just didn't know how to get the best out of them.
It wasn't a surprise to see him sacked after a 4-0 defeat against Chester when our fan turned their back on the pitch in protest for much of the game.

Yeah to be fair Atkins stopped the rot so to speak and we were no longer flirting with relegation under him. Plus as you say, a lot of his signings were part of the 2007 promotion squad.

IMO the Graydon times were the worst. However, the fairly recent home games against Chesham (who?), Barrow, Wimbledon and Southend to name but a few were as bad as it gets - Shrewsbury away last season was horrendous to name just one of probably half a dozen.

His eye for a player is obviously respected as he spent four years as head of recruitment at Everton before taking on the role of head of European recruitment at Aston Villa.

Graydon has to be the absolute worse manager we've ever had.
Christ, it was hard work turning up to watch that sh**e.
