IMO the Graydon times were the worst. However, the fairly recent home games against Chesham (who?), Barrow, Wimbledon and Southend to name but a few were as bad as it gets - Shrewsbury away last season was horrendous to name just one of probably half a dozen. Yes but they are isolated performances over the course of 3-4 years, even in most of those we only lost by the odd goal of two, every team has its off days. In the Graydon and Atkins eras such appearances occurred nearly every game and our defending was appalling, not to mention the style of play.

Craig Disley and his Mansfield side tearing us apart at the Mem! Same here. It was bloody freezing that day too, on the balckthorn wnd that was half empty after half time.
Our only tactic back then was to give the ball to the left back to smash down the channel, for some poor sod to fruitlessly chase after.

Graydon has to be the absolute worse manager we've ever had. Christ, it was hard work turning up to watch that sh**e. Graydoom. And I believe a poster has used his mugshot as an Avatar - glad he doesnt post very often.

Ah, Robbie Ryan. From FA Cup final to the Gas with Atkins saying he would become a cult hero. I think that must have been a typo. My favourite memory from that time was reading that a disgruntled fan had completely wiped Atkins out in a charity match. Good lad.

Despite those promotions I'd be very surprised if he still worked in football...

No, unfortunately not, they havenโt spoken in donkeys, and heโs 71/72 now so donโt imagine heโs working in football anymore either.

13 March 2004 - Lost 4-0 at Yeovil. I seem to recall this was a sh**e performance. Lee Matthews up front and Rob Quinn at the back. Graham Hyde getting sent off. Think it poured down aswell...The Glory Years Lol.

One memory from the Atkins years:
Lincoln away 05/06. Agogo was our main man that season and scored a good equaliser in the second half. His celebration was to point towards the Rovers duggout and give a w@ nker sign to Atkins. For which he then got a straight red card.

Spoke to Sergio Ommel when he was over here a few weeks ago. He had an excellent goal record in 2002 & helped save us from relegation. I asked him why he wasn't retained for the new season.
He said that after the end of the season he went back to Holland and waited for some contact. Nothing came so he contacted the club, only to be told the new mgr (RG) wanted to bring his own players in. Finally he (Sergio) managed to get a 'trial' under RG - a proper 11 v 11 game. Despite the trial game RG didn't take anyone on - just insisted on bringing in 'his' players.

I can see all points of view on this thread and even most on the forum.
But let's not go OTT.
The football under both was poor but Atkins just about got results. Graydon didn't.
Behind the scenes both set the club backwards.
But most importantly nearly all of the 2006/7 side were signed by Atkins, mainly in 2004, so I think he certainly deserves a lot of praise for that.
Totally agree re social media etc. People did whine in those days but it was mainly in the time honoured fashion; down the pub, on the way home. Impersonal & unlikely to have much consequence.
