So you think our wage bill is 2nd from bottom? Come on. Shrewsbury didn't spend a lot last year and were in the top 2 for most of it. Unrealistic to expect that of course, but we need a much better success rate than we've had. Don't forget also that DC wanted a development squad, more backroom staff... and got that. How many have come through that development squad? We have just loaned a left back from league two. Given how we have dropped since promotion I'm a bit suprised about the responses here, apologists almost for failure. I'm no DC hater, but some honest critisism is needed sometimes Our spine is a GK coming to us with horrific reviews from former clubs, Locks and Craig, and a striker who has scored 1 goal in about 50. We are in big trouble, and with every window it has got worse. Ellis was never a huge loss for us, not like a Taylor or 30 goal season was, but it definately seems that way given his replacements. No I think we are not spending enough to replace the players we have lost and improve the side. Was 350k on Nichols not spending enough?!

But he's not here now... and got worse in his second season with us. You say But Sweeneys not here now, so are all the other loan signings who you have deemed not good enough still here now?

It is all very well saying DC hasn't had the money but by all accounts Walsall were able to replace Bakayoko with a lad for 35k from Boreham Wood. Scored his 3rd goal for them today.

We don't have a bottom 4 budget but we are a bottom 4 team so either recruitment has gone wrong or there is something wrong in the camp. We have lost quality but equally importantly we have lost the dressing room characters who would call-out under performing players. Always remember Mansell saying to Jake Gosling after the Wembley final 'that was a good game...shame you went missing for it...'. All successful teams have a few leaders on the field and unfortunately at present we have none. That's in part down to recruitment. You sense a big slice of this season's budget went on Payne and Rodman who, on paper, seemed decent signings, not sure who you blame for both of them looking so disinterested in playing for Rovers.

DC has signed some absolute shockers and a handful of decent players.

No I think we are not spending enough to replace the players we have lost and improve the side. Was 350k on Nichols not spending enough?! Frankly no. Nichols was brought in to replace Taylor and you can't buy a Matty Taylor for 350k. I am not saying we should have spent more just that we were unlikely to get a replacement for that sort of money.

DC has got by by getting the most out of some poor signings, covering up for some very poor decisions - see list on OP. That alchemy seems to have slipped away now exposing the quality of his decision making. Now is the time to earn his wages and preserve his reputation

Matt Godden cost Posh around that figure and before today's games had already scored 6 goals. Although you can virtually guarantee that Nichols was signed after a recommendation by MS.

Now is the time to earn his wages and preserve his reputation Surely he's got he needed in the past out of the players he bought? The big problem is we've signed 3 goal scorers and been unable to replace them. Not sure spending £150K to replace Harrison was ever going to work, neither was expecting Bennett on a free to replace Bodin who was probably also worth at least £750K.

I point you in the direction of the response from pirate about the lad from Boreham Wood. The players are out there and they don't have to cost the earth. DC has just not got the wherewithal to sign players like that for whatever reason. I wouldn't trust him with more money unless we had a guy with a proven track record of spotting players working with him.

Don't think I've missed anyone... Ignore the fees in the sense that DC also received money from sales, but it does show how it has been squandered. Ian Atkins said 2/5 successful signings was a good return. In my eyes, our team is a fair bit worse than our promotion team, and it's getting worse. Smith Slocombe Sercombe £150k? Craig Broadbent Upson Rodman Bennet Matthews Reilly Nichols £350k Payne £200k+ Mensah £100k Burn for a fee £ Hartley Moore Bob Harris And then add season long loans of Telford/Bola/Sweeney/Roberts/Clarke-Salter/Luke James I make that 2/17 (Sercombe, and maybe Matthews) that can be classed as a success, and half of them have been terrible. DC can talk about losing key players, but that happens to many clubs, and we are suffering from his recruitment to replace them. Now with a limited team, there is a scarcity about the tactics, a safety first (one up front, two defense players in central midfield with Sercombe out wide, blocking a wing etc). Recruitment was Trollopes downfall, I hope it isn't DC's but I can see it being the case if things don't pick up fast. With previous DC teams I would always argue that relegation was never a worry, due to the team spirity/morale etc there will always be four worse teams. But the new signings, I'm not sure. If results continue, things with the crowd will turn toxic, will the players respond like Mansell/Brown etc did in the Conference, or will it go the way Trolls' players reacted in the final season (conceding 4-5-6 in games) Think you missed the new left back, we paid a fee for, THD? Easily missed though, seeing as though he has not played yet.

DC arrived in Division one with a team that wanted to do well for the club and themselves. DC has brought these players in not really knowing what they were truly like, or knowing how they would fit in. Plus he let Monty go, the only player we had who could put in good cross in whilst running. Meanwhile we have recruited journeymen, here for the money
Personally I would give him 5 more games, and then say "Thanks but Bye". I think we can virtually write this season off with the players he has brought in
22nd Bristol Rovers Played 8 Won 1 Drawn 2 Lost 5 For 6 Against 10. -4 Points 5
