Expected this thread to be one talking about the rise-and-fall of Rovers in League One? Well you're wrong.
It's one to say, shut up. To those who are calling for DC's head, calm down and be patient.
The date is September, 16.
At this stage in 2015/16 (League Two), we had lost 4 of our 7 opening games. This season we have lost 4 of our 7 opening games. At this stage in 2016/17 (League One), we had won 1 of our 6 opening games. This season we have won 1 of our 7 opening games. At this stage in 2017/18 (League One), we had lost 5 of our opening 8 games. This season we have lost 4 of our opening 7 games.
At this stage in 2015/16 (League Two), we were in 15th place. We finished 3rd, and gained promotion. At this stage in 2016/17 (League One), we were in 19th place. We finished 10th. At this stage in 2017/18 (League One), we were in 15th place. We finished 13th.
In all three seasons stated above, we always started to perform during November and rose up the table. November is less than two months away. Stay patient with DC.
Darrell saved our club during a time where our owner did not significantly back him financially. He deserves our respect and patience. Instead of calling for him to be sacked, look at the bigger picture, and question the owners instead. Question their financial backing of him. Sure, his recruitment this summer was very poor, however, he is working within budget, whilst the board lose the club's best players. DC is not to blame.
He has another four years left on his contract. The club would have to pay him a substantial compensation fee, therefore it is unwise to sack him with the club already losing money each year. I've seen some brilliant threads on this forum, one especially titled 'DC is a victim of his own success,' and that is spot on. Unfortunately, those who are calling for him to be sacked are teenagers who think they're entitled to make their opinion heard when the only stadium of our's that they've seen is the Mem. Sit down.

I'm inclined to agree but we look so unlikely to score these days. At least we had players who looked like they could make a difference in previous seasons.
I guess though, on the flip side of the coin we now look a lot better defensively. I know people like to hammer our back line but we're now only losing by the odd goal. Last season we were conceding for fun. If only we had Billy and Ellis back we'd be flying.

Thankfully, we now have a good goalkeeper in Bonham, who is our best goalkeeper since Joe Lumley. I think our confidence will come back eventually - it's only a matter of time. We have players who can score goals, simple as (Nichols not included ) - and it's only a matter of time before we do score and we score a load.

There is one very significant difference this season and it is in previous seasons we knew we had goals in the team. This season we don't and I cannot see how it is going to change in November, it's not like we have a goal scorer that is injured and will be back by then is it. The recruitment was very poor and we lost some key personalities from the dressing room that drove the spirit of the squad. I don't blame DC one bit as he probably got the best he could with his budget (I know others will argue against that). We will be fighting relegation all the way to Christmas and only if we invest in some goal scorers (and a dominant center back and hope Tariq is the real deal and remains fit) can I see it changing. Sadly League Two beckons again

Most sensible post I’ve read in a while. Nows the time to get behind the man that brought us back from the brink.
Getting rid of Darrell now would be the worst thing we could do in a period, where let’s face it off the pitch we’re in turmoil.
He deserves our patience and respect and has earn’t the right to make a few mistakes in my eyes. History tells us he’ll restore the balance given time and is clearly aware of what’s required.
He’s one of us, if you’re unsure watch the celebrations during and after the conference playoff final. Do we honestly want to drift for another 10 Year’s trying to find another Darrell, dealing with more buckles and Mcghees?
I’m surprised he hasn’t walked given the constant failure of delivery of promises from our board.
If we’re talking of getting rid of anyone it should be them...
It’s still only September FFS! Wake up and get behind the boys! We’re better when we’re together... UTG

Sadly League Two beckons again I think we have goal scorers in the team. Problem is they are not getting good service from midfield. We are trying to play tiki taki football, however We are not good enough on the ball and are then rushed into playing a bad pass or lose possession.

Why do posters roll out the "teen-agers" nonsense to justify their arguments, when there's virtually none posting on the forum?
As far as DC's budget last summer he was probably given at least a mid table budget if you include transfer fees of around £750K this summer probably a reasonable budget for a bottom third Div 1 side, not many near the bottom spent £150K on one player?
I fear like Trollope DC's lost his way, with talk of players not wanting to play sounding just like Bright & Regan repeating itself.

My biggest worry is that I don’t see where the goals are coming from. We haven’t replaced the players who have moved on. This is the first side under DC where there are no star men who can win games for us. I hope I’m wrong but I’m not convinced about any of our new signings.

Our goalkeeper was MOTM by a mile yesterday, we are crap all over the pitch apart from our GK (and he isn't even our player) and that is what is keeping the score respectable. It reminds me of when we had Etheridge in goal and he was the only good thing about us.

Well that’s a long winded way of just saying “have faith” whilst being patronising and somewhat rude - yeah we will just plod on paying to watch crap and putting up with it because you have a crush on DC. 😜

Exactly, comparing to previous seasons is going to prove to be pointless imo because we had individuals then who could turn the odd game round to keep us in the hunt til our form changed at Christmas. The only quality individual we have now is our goalkeeper.

We have had seasons where we have had multiple managers and we have had seasons where we stuck by our manager. I just don't think another manager would do much different at the moment.

Thank you thegasfc. I've been steering clear of Gaschat since yesterday pm as I knew there would be a complete and utter meltdown on here but thought I'd better pop on to face the music and I came across your positive thread first. I'm certainly backing DC to do exactly what he has done for us previously and why wouldn't I? Whilst thankfully I did not witness yesterday's dross with my own eyes (listening on the radio was bad enough!) we have not played as poorly as that in every game so far this season, although there have been a few which is too many. I actually don't think we were that bad last week against Plymouth, we created a number of decent chances and forced several good saves from their keeper. The positives are that when we lose it seems to be by fine margins, even when we are playing well below our usual standard. If DC can get the team going as he has done previously then we'll be fine. I'm not panicking yet but we do need a couple of wins to steady the ship and build up the teams confidence. UTG!

I suppose all credit was DC’s, not the clubs or players! He was part of it but no responsible for it all! As they say there is little you can influence once they cross that white line!

Two of our matches this season we have only managed one shot on target yesterday we didn't even manage to get one on target.

No, we might have been close to Admin but we'd never do a Hereford etc and go into liquidation when our asset was at least 50% greater than our debt. The issue is if we lose twice again this week at home do we stick with DC or do like Hereford and CHeltenham have done recently and not stick by their manager just because he's achieved promotion(s).
