.........yesterday we had a minute's applause on at least three occasions for departed fans.
Two of those were very close together. This seems to be a growing trend. Death is a moment of great sadness, and I'm sure it will happen to me one day! However, is there a maximum number of these one minute's applause you can have in a
match? Could you have ten? If there is a maximum who decides who qualifies and
who does not? If so, what are the criteria? Should the clapping continue if the opposition score or we have a player concentrating before taking a penalty? For me a dignified mention and short background before the match, or a dedicated spot at half-time would be more appropriate, plus a tribute in the programme. ( If the trend continues I'm booking the 13th minute! )

I actually think the concept of clapping a late fan is actually really touching....
Don't need to organise massively, or get the club involved to arrange anything. simply by the fans for the fans. It's a really good way to show respect in my opinion....

Afraid I agree with the OP. A mention before the game or at half-time or a bit in the programme is fitting.

There was one game we played when we scored in the minutes applause, that was really a touching moment at the time Yes, I remember that - seemed like it was "meant to be". I know that John Lock's son, (76th minute applause), was overwhelmed with the support the request received on the FB page, and I am sure that yesterday would have been a proud and emotional experience for him. The penalty save and the Scunthorpe goal occurred around the 76th minute, so it was lovely that John still got the applause, despite the flurry of action on the pitch. Well done to whoever operates the scoreboard for displaying the name of each fan at the appropriate time. I prefer the applause to a pre-match mention, as it involves everybody in showing appreciation and respect for a fellow supporter, rather than having the equivalent of a "Happy Birthday to little Johnnie" announcement. Also, the loudspeaker system is not the best, so would probably not be heard by many.

I sort of agree with the op, particularly after this week when there were 3 separate minutes of applause, and it seemed to me to be less applause for the 3rd one, who’s passing would have meant just as much as the previous 2. Hopefully we won’t have another week when we have to say goodbye to so many 😢

At least it got the crowd going if nothing else. It was like a library Saturday afternoon.
I have no problem with it. I think it’s a nice touch by the club.

How hard is it to put your hands together for 60 seconds to commemorate the lives of three proud Gasheads who have sadly passed away?
It's hardly any inconvenience for those in attendance and it makes for a really fitting tribute for their family and friends. Well done to BRFC for facilitating it.

I’m sorry but I’ve been thinking this too, and was tempted to post when the time felt right after it had been a while since one of these had been arranged.
This sort of applause should be reserved for people who have provided great service to the club on or off the pitch such as when Geoff Dunford passed away. Or supporters of note such as the man who was paraded at half time a few years back for having seen every league match for 50 years or something.
Certainly Mr Lock for instance would have been deserving of such applause regardless given his contributions to the club over the years.
Whilst the passing of a parent or child suddenly who is part of or gashead daily is heartbreaking to hear, we will soon be in a situation where we will be applauding for the majority of the 90 mins and it will devalue the whole thing - we can’t do this for every supporter who passes away.

I'm not a massive fan of this growing trend for applause during a game if I'm honest.
Would rather it's done before the game when you are better set to concentrate and reflect on lost loved ones rather than just clapping for a bit while a games on.
I still take part and respect it, but it's not for me.

I don't find it very respectful, the away fans couldn't see the screen and presumably wondered what was going on, not everybody claps, most take time to notice the screen, what if we score after a few secs of it. Do we stop the min and start again after the spot kick. Its gimmicky.
Could have had there names mentioned before the match and tied in with remembrance min.

When I go I don't want a minutes applause. I want everyone to cock their leg and water on the person next to them.
