If I was DC there are two people I'd be speaking to - Lee Johnson and Paul Heckingbottom. I was just looking at Barnsley's statistics from 2015/16. As some of you will know they went from bottom of League One at Christmas to winning the playoffs six months later.
I already knew that stat and I assumed they'd made wholesale changes in the January transfer window, but they didn't - in terms of players who influenced the side in the second half of the season they made one permanent signing (defender) and two loans (a midfielder and a striker). Which means most of the time eight of the starting XI who were shocking in the first half of the season were fantastic in the second half - that must be a combination of psychology and tactics....

Was hoping THD would be fit by now and give us a bit of pace out wide. Sometimes one or two player's, can make a big difference. Totally agree. If we still had Lee brown we’d be mid table now, if we still had Ellis too We’d be top half. But they ain’t and we’re a very easy side to defend against because we’ve got no width and no tempo to our play. I reckon we passed it sideways five times more than we passed it forwards on Tuesday . Youve got to have tempo or it will go sideways. Every time I’ve looked at the stats after a game this season we’ve had more possession than the opponent but we’ve usually lost. That tells the story. Can't agree with that. Clearly LB and EH have been a big loss but our form had dipped well before they departed.

Once Gaffney lost his way we had no goals in the team other than Harrison, that problems got even worse this season as we've also lost Harrison as well. Bennett etc probably know if they don't score nobody will.

I think we are crossing the ball in but when you have Payne who doesn't get of the deck & Nichols at 5ft nothing against 6FT plus defenders you are never going to get much change when there set and the balls put in high
What it needs is Nichols and Payne to be getting in front the first defender and getting the ball in lower in "the corridor of uncertainty" the area keepers don't know whether to come & defenders don't like touching the ball in case results in a OG two examples Wimbledon OG & Gillingham Nearly OG keeper pulled off great save Two other observations from last season to this = Ellis & Gafs are high press forwards never let defenders have a break then they make mistakes falls to them or midfielders who benefit goals from it
We don't have that now I noticed Nichols comes deep & wide to link play but then leaves Payne isolated & static in the middle
So my conclusion is if we continue as we are we need a tall target man to compete with big defenders

Leaders Width ( overlapping fullbacks and using the width of the pitch ) Pace Three things that DCs success has been built on that we currently don’t have. possibly goal-scorers too

Have said many times on here that when we lost Ellis,Billy ,and lee we lost more than just their abilities as players .they were all 'chirpy, chippy characters and i believe a big influence in the dressing room especially Ellis who seemed to have the knack of making people laugh and geeing them up,believe his personality is especially being missed by the likes of Benno,Sercs, and co and there just aint that ambience around the squad any more it all seems gloom and despondency and how i would love Ellis back in Jan window ,on loan, to bring a little sunshine to the Mem!long term hope he goes on to make it in the championship but short term in order to get sharp again following his injury ,reckon he could do a great job for us!!to prove the point ,remember Stefan Payne's introduction ?no disrespect but talk about Mr Glum!come on Ellis 'Bring me sunshine etc!

I agree with a lot that people are saying perhaps Lee Mansell should get some sort of role that involves being around the first seem squad particularly on match days

I think some of them still prefer to get pulled off during the game.

I remember last season I would get excited when I saw the ball come down the channels. A cross into the box was a dangerous part of our game.
Losing Lee Brown and relying on Leadbitter’s crossing has been an issue. Even worse is when you have a massive bloke like Stefan Payne who doesn’t seem to even threaten in the box.
We need someone with a bit of pace who can cross a ball, and a decent nasty set piece striker, good with his head.
Our midfield has goals in it and does fairly well down the middle, but we’ve lost our width and with that become too predictable.

Fatuous comments re Mansell says it all about some on here Blimey, it was just a joke about his kiss. I actually think getting him involved in the first team wouldn't be a bad idea.

Has anybody seen the fantastic analysis by GassMacc on the other forum ref Payne’s goals for Shrews last year? Great bit of studying.

Give them a big kiss no they’d prefer to be pulled off fatuous comments when the OP referred to us needing a Mansell like character around now that Harrison and Brown who both had a good influence around the dressing room have gone I give up

i would like to see Leadbetter as a LEFT sided attacking player.... the thought of him cutting in from the left into the box with his pace would upset a few defences
Just give it a go during a game, what have we got to lose ?
