I think some are get too carried away by an unconvincing win against 10-man Fleetwood, the win against a very poor Oxford side, a win against Walsall who had previously won 1 in 8 league games and the point against Burton with truely awful football. You get the same amount of points whoever you beat. Bit confused about walsall because you told us what great transfer business they did at the start of the season??

pirate,Not half as much as people get carried away with your ramblings of dozen upon dozen of players who our club should look to try to sign and actually how many of your suggestions actually do that well? Whatever you may think of the three wins and a draw and the opposition I can tell you without even bothering to waste my time checking that those four games were as difficult as ANY four match run we have had this season . I still believe it will be a relegation fight but lets not down what has been achieved in a short time.

I can only remember commenting that Cook was clever business on a free and Ferrier was worth a punt at £35k.

Quite a lot actually, but I suppose the standout ones have been Charlie Austin, Jamie Vardy, Sean Raggett, David Accam, Conor Washington, Marvin Johnson, Duncan Watmore, Lee Tomlin, Erhun Oztumer, Albert Adomah, Aden Flint, Joe Lolley and Jack Marriott.

But when you say we should sign everyone you’re gonna be right at some point. In the last year you’ve been most adamant that we should sign: - Corey Whitley - Reise Allassani As of yet- they’ve shown little to suggest that they’d provided any value.

Allassani is a good player and has stepped up 4 divisions. I maintain he would've been worth a punt and is different to anything we have in the squad. He is the joint 8th top goalscorer in the Professional Development League and will be looking to kick on this year either at Coventry or elsewhere. Whitley has done ok this season scoring some impressive goals and has been used in a variety of positions. Dagenham turned down offers from Football League clubs for him before sudden financial problems forced them to swiftly offload him to Ebbsfleet. This season he has again been scouted by clubs in the Football League and Leyton Orient Director of Football Martin Ling also wants to sign him for their promotion push. The time for us to really sign him was a few years ago before he first joined Dagenham.

I think the point I was making pirate is that you come out with knowledgable facts on hundreds of player so to only be able to name a few that have actually succeeded is as bad as making totally negative statements like "I think some are get too carried away by an unconvincing win against 10-man Fleetwood, the win against a very poor Oxford side, a win against Walsall who had previously won 1 in 8 league games and the point against Burton with truely awful football." Do you not understand the fact that we have lost this season against MANY sides far worse than the four games we have won three and drawn one. Your comment is disrespectful to the performances because to be honest at the time GC took over we really didn't look likely to win any of those games. Even the draw against Burton was not that bad when you look at their next result Rochdale 0 Burton 4 and they are still in the Cup! Add to that you mention the poor run of Walsall but you could in the same vein have been more balanced and said that Oxfords recent form before playing us was very good. We also fully deserved the bit of luck against Fleetwood because they are the sort of team who would have beaten us before this run there again so were Oxford, Walsall and Burton! How about a bit of balance to be fair like saying well I have recommended 500 players of which 10 have proved to be very good acquisitions. GC cannot afford to take a 50 to 1 chance on a player as if he can only sign three then he has to be right on every one.

With Martin now back at Stevenage, and DC + MS off the payroll, maybe the cost-cutting for next season has started already? Will Hamer be the next to go? He seems to have disappeared off the radar.

I think there is a big difference between bringing a (possibly) unknown player to the clubs attention, and saying who we definitely should sign.
I see a lot of lower league/conference football and overseas games, and Pirate has mentioned lots of players that were not on my radar.
I personally take Pirates posts as a starting point for the club to follow up on and that can only be a good thing if the club use it.

I saw a really good interview with Neil Warnock the other week, and he said something like this.....
"When I was at Palace we were offered Virgil Van Dyke for 4m. I sent the Chief Scout to have a look, and he came back and said, "no, don't bother. He's too slow"........then I got sacked and as far as I know the Chief Scout is still there!"
Football....it's all about opinions isn't it !

How seriously are we looking and trying to bring players in?
Coughlan - "At this moment in time there’s nothing imminent and that’s down to me. No one else, that’s on my head."

Here we go again; Different manager, same slow transfer business
The only thing we are quick at is letting our better players go

Coughlan is, I fear, a yes man. Just the sort of guy who will come in and play with the hand the board deals him without complaint. Cotteriil (for example) I'm sure would have been far more vocal about things that weren't right. That's not to slag Coughlan off, he has earnt the right to have a crack at it, however I miss the part of DC that tried to hold the board to high standards. Without that pressure coming from the manager there is very little else keeping the board from pushing the club on. This board needs someone in a position of authority at the club to hold them to account, the fans certainly have no power to perform that role.

How did that work out for him? No stadium, no colony, no job.

How did that work out for him? No stadium, no colony, no job. The problem for DC was that he was losing games and lost his leverage, nowt easier than sacking a manager who isn't winning games. Up until that point DC had the power to call the board out because he was getting results. If Coughlan carries on his form I would like to see him be prompted to be outspoken by the media but I suspect he will defer to the owners and keep his beak out. Which in some ways is fair enough but I wonder will lobby the board on the fan's behalf instead?

Fair enough Tbone you don't rate him , I think he is the best we have at the moment in a defence that doesn't really concede that many goals.
