The truth is that we have no chance of getting any decent players in if we have to get rid of first. The reason ...simples.It is not the end of the season where contracts run out. The majority of our players are under contract so GC is left with trying to get rid of players that will struggle to get takers and probably won't be over keen on leaving anyway. As soon as he tries to get rid of anyone on loan or otherwise how is he then going to get them to play for us if they don't want to go? By the time this happens all the better players available will be taken up and we will (as usual) be given the left overs. IMO despite the great uplift in results recently there is no chance of keeping up this rate without new players coming in and as somebody else said What is the price of relegation? IMO the loss of our status will be a huge price but there again I predicted at the start of the season that without certain signings we would struggle and the attendances of last season would be a thing of the past.It seems that the Board were happy to take that chance and look at our home attendances this season. Take another 2000 off and that is where we will be next season with relegation- the loss of 4000 even at an average of £10 per person per game is £40,000 per home game so over a season nearly a million pounds. if two or three new players come in then players who are missing out will be more likely to want to go and will see that better players coming through the door will signal their end.

That's not how I saw it at all, GC clearly stated he wanted to bring players into the football club and that to make this happen players would be going out to get game time either before or after this occurs. Starnes also saying that he has met with GC, CH and TW to discuss our transfer plans also makes me thing that some movement will occur in January. With where we are in the league and everyone around us making signings, we'd be foolish not to try our luck and bring a couple in to try and improve our situation. Seems to have changed his tune, now when asked about transfers GC says we already have strength in the squad and if anything he has too many players and some might just be leaving...it doesn’t make think anything else is happening, only rumour at the moment is we’ve asked to make jak a permanent signing but can’t see that happening

Think that's what he said, when I listened earlier. Think he was trying to not slag off the current player's too much.

There always seems to be a reason why we can't get decent players in. Crazy prices being quoted; all the best ones snapped up already, were in the wrong half of the table, were in the top half and people expect the earth in wages. The list goes on and on and I'm sick of hearing it. Just get on with it and get the correct players in and pay them the going rate FFS!

I don’t get why we demand the owners to put in money. Yes- it doesn’t include cash injections... But we need to be self sufficient. Owners just pouring in cash doesn’t necessarily achieve anything. This isn’t fantasy football. We need to improve our revenue. Now- that’s created through a stadium and other means. Here- by all means critique the actions or lack of. But it’s absolutely fanciful to suggest that money should just be given. They have "increased revenue" by selling our best players. DC said before he left that he has raised £1.5 million through player sales and there is no way we have reinvested that money back into the squad. How about putting that back into where it really matters - the first team. How much would it cost us to get relegated to the basement division? I would suggest it is "absolutely fanciful" to expect us to be "self sufficient" in our current guise. We’re not self sufficient. That’s why all the other things: stadium must happen. But that doesn’t mean that you just chuck money in. There’s nothing to say that money wasn’t reinvested- through wages. Or alternatively it’s sat in pot ready to be spent when there’s room within the wage structure. You constantly knock the board. And there’s criticism to be said but I don’t think we can blame their investment in the playing side. We’ve signed several players for money. Something we hadn’t done for a while. Have a large squad: Bennett, Matthews, Broadbent all missing from the bench on Saturday. It’s speculation to suggest that they are lying over playing to the FFP limits. DC confirmed that FFP was the limit himself. Yes they could give us a million quid. But why should they?

True but also if you didn’t own all of the house you would expect a contribution from the others that did have a share. And that’s Waels argument too. He only owns 92% and the SC won’t match his percentage so he’s not doing it. He also says it’s unfair to ask them to sell or force a buy out. Which again is nonsense because it’s not as if the SC have anything near a controlling interest or if the things they say make a difference. If anything the one board member they do have causes more problems than cure them. When you haven’t converted the existing debt either and are just racking it against a property where the debt is fast becoming greater than the equity and you are losing £2.5m a year then he definately isn’t going to be able to dip his hand in his pocket. If only he had a rich brother or something...

I'm not sure what the issue is with wanting the ALQ's to hand over even more money for players, DC probably had the biggest wage and transfer funds in the club's history but we've had, so far, one of our worse season's for years.
If the owners are prepared to give the manager a mid table budget and a decent transfer kitty I can't see we can complain too much, after all it's not like we've a long line of billionaires ready to take over the club.

You don’t definitely get better. Spend 10k on your roof- there’s a far greater that it’s fixed.

A damn lot more than £80k so think on Wael if you’re coming out with that kind of sh**e.

I think coughlan was partly being realistic and partly being canny. I believe we will move some players out and bring some in during the window.
Just because scunthorpe have signed 4 players does not automatically mean they will improve.

Whilst I appreciate your football knowledge and cannot compare with the number of games you attend (I gave up watching every game a number of years back): I must say that I find your opinion in this quoted post to be far too negative. I too have supported Rovers for a long time: So long that I prefer calling them that rather than, "The Gas". I think we will survive. If we do not........... we have proved we can recover

If we do not........... we have proved we can recover Steve posts something similar every transfer window, as GC says he's got 27 players so common sense suggest he needs to get rid of some of them before he can bring others in, I'd have thought we need a maximum of 24 players, two for every position, so moving a "couple" on is surely the minimum required.

So it's really hard to get players in for a team near the bottom apparently. Sorry GC but what a load of bollocks. Scunny were below us before the weekend and have been making signings, and decent ones at that left right and centre. Wish GC the best but the board will be glad they now have their puppet. He is far more rounded than the delusional one he replaced

A damn lot more than £80k so think on Wael if you’re coming out with that kind of sh**e. I quite agree. I don’t know any business that at some point in it’s existence doesn’t need a cash injection from time to time, whether that’s to financially resecure itself, make changes if there have been mistakes made or to invest to make it better or grow. I disagree with throwing money at issues for the sake of it or with no long term plan, which is how Portsmouth and Southampton ended up in L1 in the first place and quite how Bolton are jumping in and out of admin is beyond me. What is clear is we are desperate for 2 strikers to bolster our attack and if we can’t move some obvious choices on like Nichols, Upson, Partington, Payne either because of contractual situations or because no one else wants them then I feel the owner has to step in and at least get 1 striker in the door. Cogs is right though. Players will look at us and maybe not fancy a relegation fight on their shoulders unless they are paid well enough to have a go at it with a degree of reassurances if we fall through the trap door.

Broadbent, he isn’t a L1 defender perhaps a loan would do him good. We have a plethora of midfielders and Upson hasn’t added anything to the squad this year. Nichols time is up. I would send Matthews out on loan as well.

Upson has played in every game under GC whereas Lines has just been a bit part player, if one of the CM's is moved on it'll be Lines but I doubt he'll be going anywhere until his contract expires in the summer.
