"I couldn’t stand in Jonno’s way either because of the contract that he’s earned, which is outstanding for him and allows him to develop his life off the field as well,” he said.
I thought we were cutting the budget by a million, according to a lot of fans??? Or was that just another rumour that had no substance like a lot of others.
We had a similar quote from Clough when we signed Rodman. He said that Burton could not compete with our offer, which was very good for this level.

Unfortunately due to our circumstances (on and off the pitch) we have to majorly overpay to attract players.
Bet Payne etc had a nice wage increase when joining as well

Apart from Henbury Gas who has actually said we're cutting the playing budget by a million? All DC said was that there would be cuts, that could be non playing staff, the Academy or Develop. Squad, or even just less 1st team squad players.

Didn't Martyn Starnes state that the budget will be cut back in the next 12 months, on that GT interview when he couldn't remember whether he or DC instigated the discussion about DC leaving?

I just think its classic deflection tactics from robbins to try and explain why they now only have lightweight type forwards.

As I said before when this came up the 1mn was a gaschat fact. One person mentioned it was 1mn after D.C. said something along the lines of ‘budgets are likely to go down, if anything’ and before you know it it’s fact
I hate to be one of those people but in this instance it’s true, if you can’t source it from someone on paper from the club or a reputable online source it probably ain’t true. Don’t believe it at alll if it’s from Facebook.
Some people playing nasty games with us.

More players went out on loan or transfers in this window, so there was a bigger budget to sign players.
Add to that the fact that if we failed to sign a proper forward in this window, the owners would've got even more flack, I'm not surprised we forked out a bit more than we'd have liked to.
He also sounds a better prospect than Payne.

Maybe it's because the board do actually put their hand in their pocket to support the manager as they do in covering the day to day running costs ?

In the build up to deadline day they were criticised for not putting their hands in their pockets and now we're apparently giving a new signing a hefty contract they are being questioned on that too. Why would anyone want to own a football club !!!

Interesting how people see different sides of the coin. I'm wondering WHY we need to apparently pay a lot more than others... For pretty normal / average players. Not a criticism of the players as such, or a comment on them, but more on our situation / history. BTW - I'm sure we all take a pinch of salt alongside comments from managers trying to explain to their fans why they sold decent players to Lge 1 rivals... In an important transfer window.

I don't think we would need to generally. I think it got to the end of the transfer window, a few of our deals had fallen through, we were a striker short of a strikeforce, the fans were sharpening their torches, and lighting their pitchforks, and we had to get someone in as an emergency. If we stay up, it will be worth every penny.

The cost of living is a lot higher in Bristol than somewhere like Coventry, and we're not in London, so there's not the draw of the big city. If potentialsigningd did their research better, or if we were better at selling the place, we'd attract better players I reckon. We could also buy some flats to offer players as temporary accommodation. I think that'd help

Don't forget Coventry are tenants at the Ricoh, not long ago they spent sometime in exile at Northampton. Perhaps they are skint. We may never know but maybe this scenario is similar to what could have happened if we did take on UWE under UWE's t's & c's
