Back in December we travelled to Sunderland at probably our lowest point since our relegation to the Conference. We were in the bottom four and had just sacked DC. There was to be on that day no "New manager" effect as we lost 2-1 but we played well and were unlucky to lose and with a bit of luck would have equalised in the last minute. I believe we took about 1600 in a crowd near 30,000 but that day we took accolades from the home fans for the tremendous support that we gave our team and tomorrow we get the chance to show Sunderland fans the same respect or should I say enhance the reputation we created that day.
Tomorrows game will see a similar amount of Sunderland fans arrive at the Mem. There will be more of us than them but nowhere near the levels of their home support but we get our chance to make them as welcome as we were made in that fixture. it only takes a handful of fans to ruin a reputation but I very much hope that tomorrow we will produce the kind of atmosphere that will enhance our reputation but also will create an atmosphere that drowns out the Sunderland fans and is intimidating in the right way for their team to play in.
I very much hope that the team play with a pressurising their defence from the off style particularly now we have a centre forward who can compete physically because this will give us, as supporters something to create a noise from the start. whatever happens we need to be the 12th man for the entire 90minutes so in Delia Smiths famous words "Let's be havin' you.Gasheads".
Lets ensure that Sunderland fans have a great day in Bristol with everything apart from the result!!

Yeah, the Sunderland fans were brilliant before and after the game. No doubt they have their fair share of idiots but the people we met couldn't have been nicer.
UTG and 3 points tomorrow GC.

I read many of their favourable comments on their forum after we played them and as Steve says it would be good to reciprocate Having said that i hope we turn our poor home form around tomorrow. As GC said we are the 12th man tomorrow.

I left the UK over a year ago to live in Aus. In the past year I've met and talked to many fans from many English clubs (too many to mention them all but the ones that stick out are Sheff Wed, Leeds, Charlton and Sunderland)...
....all have been great fun to talk to and banter with in person, I guess distance gives you a lot more perspective than the more tribal nature that even I was sucked into when attending games.
The moral of the story is this. Any other football fan can be and should be a friend to us all. Except if they support City or Wycombe....

I would treat a Sunderland fan the same as any other fan. Like a normal human being and have a beer and a chat with them (although I guess they aren't going to be allowed in the clubhouse)

People in Sunderland were great, after the game it hammered it down with ice rain. Me and my Father-in-law stayed an extra night to forre out and avoid the bad weather. We had a great night with their fans talking football, they had so much respect for us. Let's do our singing and the feet of our players do the talking. UTG

Treat other fans as they treat us - if they come to the Mem and sing and chant about how sh** it is, then they'll get some back no doubt. From my experience they're a friendly bunch in general, so shouldn't be too much disrespect between the two sets of fans.

This implies that we don't treat other fans with respect and that's not the case.

I wish no ill on the Sunderland fans, and certainly no harm, but personally I hope they have a thoroughly miserable time tomorrow - at least for 90 minutes.

I’m about half way through their Netflix documentary. Last night I watched the episode where they were 3-0 down at half time against our neighbours and they were raging! Let’s hope they are as angry come full time tomorrow!

I won’t treat them any different than I would any other fans. No specialist treatment they’re just another opponent. Other than the sh** , Wycombe Swindon etc.

Strange thread from the OP for me considering the position we're in. No time for sentiment, points is all I care about.
We're in the shìt.

As I said we can keep the friendliness AND create a tremendous atmosphere. Three points ,a very noisy atmosphere and the Sunderland fans going home safe and empty handed and amazed at the noise of our support.
