If GC was considering Plymouth it seems a bit odd that he would go about releasing players or telling they won't get new deals at least. Surely he could have postponed that by a week or so, taken the Plymouth job and just left it up to whoever comes next to decide who they want to offer deals to. Personally I wouldn't blame him for leaving. We are sh**e off the pitch and Plymouth are as big a club as us with better facilities. What's more some of our fans seem more than a little ungrateful for him keeping us up with once of the worse squads we've seen in a long time. We don't know why the players were released - some (all) were at the end of their contracts and may of wanted to leave - who knows. He may well of been instructed 'from above' to get rid of Chris Lines and maybe one or two others which would not surprise me. Another conspiracy theory.

Personally I’ve struggled to warm to him. Considering the job he has done- he should be adored. However, too many home matches without width have done me. He fulfilled his job remit. He made sure we have a Lg1 Team to support next Season. If he upset a few on the way, who cares.

Regarding DC not providing width... I think he often did, just not with wingers. The full backs were allowed to bomb forward with far greater freedom.

Pretty bizarre to be leaving the club, and just before you do, you release our Welsh international, our bearded motivator and our midfield maestro (he's one of our own). The only way that would happen is if GC were to leave for a rival club, similar to ourselves, in order to make them more competitive with us, and our owners have astonishingly failed to spot the impending disaster. Hmm...

GC now 2/5 on with Sky Bet and Bet Victor. Might be some value in the other candidates then if everyone is sure GC is staying.

There are 2 sayings, I firmly believe in... "actions speak louder than words".and "don't listen to what people say, watch what they do". He previously quit Huddersfield after beating us in the playoffs to guide them in to what is now The Championship and then immediately joined Argyle in what is now League Two.

A pair of wide players that GC almost immediately shipped out and replaced with Ogogo (another CM).... Always makes me chuckle the narrative that DC left us with no width when in actual fact it was GC who cleared out two thirds of the wingers in our squad.

The quality of said players is questionable, agreed, but the fact is GC was left with options for width. Point being it was GC and not DC who very clearly showed his hand for all to see by moving all of our wide players bar one out of the club.

But even DC didn't trust them two to start before he left! Matthews was only used as a late sub by Eastleigh this season, FFS if he can't cut it at National League level how can be good enough for Div 1. Bennett also hardly gave us width as 99 times out of a 100 he cut inside well before getting any where near the penalty area. Back to the OP it's just a pretty you can't bet against GC getting the job!

There’s almost as much speculation on here as to who will get the Plymouth job as there is on their own forum.
IMO, if Coughlan has any intention of taking the Plymouth job, he wouldn’t of agreed to a radio interview tonight, detailing his plans for the summer and next season but we’ll see.

I said before the season started we lacked with, think Matthews played through the middle more the season before. GC recognised that and decided to play a diamond formation. That's why Ogogo was brought in. That decision helped save us.
