It would be interesting to see the reaction of your standard Holloway fan, should he come in and have a record similar to Darrell around December time.
It’s a classic head & heart situation, I’m all for leaving Ollie memories in the 90’s. Onwards & upwards, not dipping into the past for emotional kicks.

it doesn't mean our overall wage bill was higher just that DC decided to out bid them for one player, I sense NC called that one right it that was the case! As far as him taking over from GC if he left I sense we have zero chance as surely he's destined for a top Div 1 or Championship side if he ever decides to leave Burton. My choice would be Flynn assuming Newport don't win the play offs and he is looking for the next step up the league ladder. Although I still can't understand why GC would consider swapping a seemingly secure job at Rovers to start again at Plymuff.

Names that would be in my thinking are Ben Garner, Graeme Jones, Graham Alexander, Jody Morris, Johnnie Jackson, Austin MacPhee, Ian Burchnall, Nigel Clough, John Coleman, Paul Hurst, Matt Jansen, Daryl McMahon and Alun Armstrong. Interested to know your logic behind Nigel Clough Pirate? I used to teach Jodie Morris, he was in the same class as Jason Roberts. (He was also an arrogant little sh**).

The second time is never as good as we found out with Gerry Francis and John Ward. I also have a problem with rovers fans always thinking the past was better than the future, you hear a lot of that on Twentyman talks. I believe in moving forward, time doesn't go backwards and neither should we.

That would definitely prompt me to get a season ticket after not bothering last year and no plans to bother next year either. You can have mine if Ollie comes back Nice one thanks. I'll message you if and when the time comes - I'll buy you a pint🍺 !

I can't see the logic in people saying they won't buy a season ticket or go to watch if Holloway returns.
If he did well, they'd be flocking back, tails between legs.
If he did badly, then they can decide whether to continue watching, whilst shouting 'I bloody told you this would happen'.
But deciding not to go before one of his sides has even kicked a ball is just bizarre.
Hypothetical anyway, I suppose.

Did a good job managing and coaching the Chelsea youngsters and won successive FA Youth Cups. His U18s scored 106 goals in 35 matches on their way to a quadruple of titles during 17/18.

I for one would be gutted. We've had excellent away form under GC, he's kept us up with a squad that would struggle to be competitive in League Two and he's had two successful forays in the transfer market. Giving him the chance to build on that and have a complete squad overhaul seems to make complete sense to me. If we can keep our away form going as it is and return to our historic home records, we'd have a great shot at being competitive in League One for the first time in decades.

I think he's doing well with Lampard at Derby now? I'm sure there will come a time when he wants to take the next step and why not with someone like us. He can bring Loftus-Cheek, Hudson-Odoi and Abrahams with him if he wants.

Just seen the GC interview . If I was body language expert (which I'm not), I would say his fidgeting and scratching and other involuntary movements suggest he is uncomfortable and being a little disingenuous .
Agents already talking methinks .....

Got to call you out on the claim our squad wouldn't be competitive in L2. The nonsense about our squad being that poor has been shown up by our post DC record. Apart from lacking a goalscorer, our squad has been a perfectly adequate L1 squad, if a little unbalanced.

Good thread this.
Classic path of:
Potential loss of manager. Who used to manage us? Are they free? The merits of that person returning.
What's Brough Fletcher up too?

Agents already talking methinks ..... Whether he's interested or not I think he would act the same way when asked that question. He wouldn't want to upset the Plymouth fans either, as they hold him in high regard. He was taking about building for next season a lot and saying that he has already started that etc. I never read too much info interviews. I think he will only go, if he thinks his job is under threat here.

Why on earth would he want to go there? It would be just like being at Rovers but with more fans, a better stadium, and their own training ground. And lge 2 football 😂

If Holloway came back it would be nice for sentimental value but whether he did well , or average or badly is irrelevant to that. Every manager starts his new job with a clean slate. His record speaks for itself and overall he’s done pretty well in management. I hope Cogs stays , injects some width and pace as he said he’d do today and takes us in to the top half. If he leaves I’ll carry on supporting whoever is manager.

Not saying it won't happen but I will be shocked and very disappointed if GC leaves us for Plymouth in the summer break.
He's only been a L1 manager for less than 5 months, when he was caretaker and pitching for the job he expressed how he desperately wanted the opportunity to prove he could do it.
Well BRFC gave him that opportunity and not only the chance to stay until the season end but a 2.5 year deal as well.
If he were to bale out on us now he would lose a lot of respect I think. Maybe he does have aspirations to manage Plymouth one day but I think he should stick with us for at least another season to see how it goes.
For me he is still a rookie and still has a lot to prove. I've been impressed with how he has dug in and made the best of what we had to ensure survival but let's see whether he can make is into a top half team next season.
