We seem to keep coming back to this, but the answer is still the same. It isn’t possible to cover the open terraced sections without blocking part of the view from the seats in the East Stand. The only way to cover the terraces, would be to extend the East Stand along the full length of the pitch and that’s probably never going to happen. A potential solution might be a clear glass roof over the terrace, but that seems impractical for a whole raft of reasons. If that's true, and I don't believe it is, how is it that the new Family tent doesn't obscure the view for those sitting on that side of the East stand? It would if it covered more than the first few steps at the top of the terrace. The family stand was originally intended to sit immediately behind the terrace, but that left insufficient room for the safe operation of the pasty huts, hence the present arrangement. As it is and as has already been pointed out, the family stand blocks the view of the corner flag by the away terrace, from the far left of the Thatcher’s End. I know this is true as I’ve needed to shift where I normally stand, so that I can still see all the pitch. It should be born in mind that when the rugby club had the East Stand built, they used architects with little experience of stadia. The rake of the seating was too shallow for the near side of the pitch to be seen from the seating, leading to the near touch line of the pitch having to be moved a little further from the stand. The architect’s insurers covered the cost. This is why the sight lines are so tight.

You can’t see the corner flag by the away terrace from part of the Thatchers end by the family tent. And you cannot see the corner flags on the near touch line from the dribuild stand. Not unless you stand. We’re rubbish at corners

It’s a rule that you have to be able to see all four corner flags from your position. I believe this is why we ended up with the joke of a family stand instead of the proposed full length and deeper version. You can’t see the corner flag by the away terrace from part of the Thatchers end by the family tent. existing position though not a proposed new position.

Is there any reason we can’t set up some kind of park & ride from our car park? I don’t just mean during the summer, I mean Monday-Friday for the entire year. Surely we could charge cars £2/3 for such a service? A fairly secure car park and very close to the city centre... sounds ideal. I’m guessing it’s not doable for some reason though? We supply parking to Southmead hospital for staff which they pay for every day of the week and A&S police use our exec boxes for training of some description. I was surprised to learn that last year. Yes A & S use the boxes yearly for some sort of interviewing process. I wonder if we get a discount on game day policing costs?

I accept what you say, but that still doesn't provide an explanation for why we couldn't put a mirror image family tent on the other side, to provide at least a bit of cover for poor long-suffering away fans. I think the owners just decided not to spend the money, not that it was much. Of course, you could then ask why they decided to install a big screen if they didn't want to spend money, but I for one won't be holding my breath waiting to see if that ever happens.

A very fair point. If I remember correctly, the family stand, big screen etc, costs were covered by sponsorship. I don’t think a sponsor could be found for the equivalent seated area for the away fans, so we don’t have one.

The call of using the car park for Cricket is top drawer .. incredible that no one at the football club is on to that ... then again maybe they are ... then again ...... Contacted Tom G, who advised the car park is being rented out to GCCC for the big games.

I thought they camp outside the car park 24hrs a day to confirm it's never used during the summer?

They might finish the scoreboard and will get the yellow lines in the gangway painted, but what else is happening at the Mem? I heard the whole pitch is being re- turfed. Not sure why as it will probably cost £50k - seed, staff wages, extra water, heat lamps and consultant fees. Surely the pitch is good enough, it just needs attention to a few patches? There is the Legends games and the Murder Mystery, but I haven't heard about anything else. Last year City allegedly made around £30k in bar rrevenue, plus massive publicity during the World Cup and Rovers .........didn't bother. Surely the Champions League and Nations League should be shown, to try and get some bar money? I'm sure they could get Whhosh and 20man in for the European final. (Would be good to get Gary Mabbutt, Rickie Lambert, Wally Walters and John Scales mind!) Why not car boot sales, or other uses for the car park. I'm sure in Holtby's day the car park was available for international games at the cricket. Car parking spaces are like gold dust there. I have not heard that this is an option this time. We keep.missing a trick. They say stadiums should be used 24/7. Unfortunately it seems our club seems to think that means 24 hours use in 7 months.

The car park is in fact being hired out for the ODI and all cricket world cup games.
The car park can also be hired from Monday to Friday for a daily or weekly fee too.
There are lots of conferences and events also going on throughout the whole of the summer up at the Mem.

The club and sponsor's have been compensated for the delay. So I doubt the blame lies with the club, otherwise why have we been compensated??

How long does it take to fabricate a length of steel, instal and connect a tv screen, years according to BRFC, hopefully that project will be finished during the summer, hmm The problem with the ground is that at the South end the underlying rock is very hard and I remember they had a big problem when they put in the floodlights. I suspect that is one of the problems, the other is that they do not (or had not) fitted and electric supply cable. Apparent they "missed" that bit. so they are awaiting that to be put in place.

'The underlying rock is very hard' Are they boring down to the core of the earth here, or putting up a big telly? I hope that particular excuse never gets used by Wael.
