If you want a smaller squad and dont plan to play with wingers its best not to sign any. My view is that coughlan will play with a narrow midfield but now hopes that his full backs little.holmes-dennis and hare can get forward more effectively than previous full backs like partington and j clarke.

The whole problem last season was that we had no width even when Holmes Dennis played as a wingback and his injury record would make us stupid to rely on him. So far all the problems we had last season still exist but to a worst extent as we no longer have Jacubiak and it sounds a sa if there is an injury doubt already for both THD and JCH. GC has so far just signed players which hopefully brings the defence and goalkeeper maybe somewhere near last seasons level. he has done NOTHING to improve the lack of creativity or to add pace and power to the squad. There is plenty of time still but we need at least 4 more signings and preferably before all the better players are fixed up. Half our problem was caused by not being in a position to play with wingers and only having one player who could score goals regularly.

Talking Pace / width I think With the side Cogs is building we’re looking tall and powerful but we really need a few more in with 4 weeks to go until the season starts. I know we’ve probably got enough to stay up if we go narrow diamond 442 again but with a creative midfielder , 2 wide men and a striker who can score goals at this level we can finish top half maybe even top 6. Not demanding it I realise we’re not big hitters in this division but if there is 4 more to come in then 1 creative mid 2 quick wide men 1 striker
The squad will have balance regarding positions covered , currently it doesn’t.
Going to be an interesting 4 weeks.

I would maybe go for the 1 creative central midfielder, one wide man and 2 strikers (1 targetman and 1 goalscorer) if we are going to keep Bennett as we then have Rodman, Bennett and 1 signing for wingers and strikers would be 2 new signings,JCH,Reilly and Nicholls. If JCH is injured we definitely need a big man option and add to that I do not see Nicholls or Reilly scoring enough goals in a million years!

I'll be surprised if Benentt is still with us at the end of the summer, it's just a case of how much of his contract we pay.
