I'm gobsmacked ! I usually agree with you Steve, and yes NO attacking players as such have come in but the 3 outfield signings so far surely breed confidence in what the team can do next season ? I don't think we need so many creative players either - a good quality left wide man and strike partner for JCH and we should do well (top half). Players like Ogogo, Nichols, Sercombe, Kelly, Hare and Reilly on the bench ! I'd say that was pretty strong to add to a starting 11 with the 2 attacking additions. Why do the signings so far make you feel so confident? Little is top L1 quality/lower Champ, Davies played for Cov most games and they were 7 or 8th, Hare was in National league team of the season - so a great back up for Little. Dutch keeper a gamble but is probably 2nd choice. don't get the paranoia but it's par for most on here in the off season. UTG !

No paranoia from me, but I don't see how a decent right back and a few likely back up signings can make you confident for the season ahead. Maybe Davies will be first choice, but the fact is he only started 19 games in the league for Cov (Not most games) last season and has only played 90 odd games in the football league at the age of 27. He's got a tough job replacing our captain who has hundreds of football league games to his name and was a full international by the age of 22.

The big advantage we could have this season is preparation. I honestly see GC getting a better start than we had during ANY of DCs seasons but this alone may not be enough. Certainly I would say with 4 attacking /creative players coming in we could compete higher up the League.

When you look at it objectively it’s hard to be overly positive about business so far. We’ve lost Lockyer for nothing and brought in Davies. It’s hard to say if this is an adequate replacement for an excellent player. We obviously all hope so. We’ve lost James Clarke and Partington for nothing. James Clarke was one of our better players last year. We’ve brought in Little and Hare. Little has had quality but there’s a question mark due to age and lack of games last season. Hare is promising but unproven. Again, it’s hard to say whether this is an improvement. We’ve lost in Bonham a good keeper who made an immediate impact when he came in. We’ve also lost any experienced back up. We don’t know if the replacement is going to be first choice. We suspect maybe not. It’s good that numbers have been brought in early but I suspect that if this transfer window is to be a real success it will be because of transfers yet to come in. That’s no indictment on Coughlan. He has to play the hand he’s been dealt and has just lost 3/5 of a successful defence, which is a very hard thing to have to deal with, so it makes sense to deal with that first. A hard job, no doubt, to adequately replace all those defensive players just to keep at the same level, when that was our biggest positive from a mediocre last season. So, a keeper still needed and then attacking additions to improve us going forward. I don’t expect too many to come in unless we can somehow move on Payne and/or Nichols. At this stage I’d be very happy with survival again next season but who knows what is to come. Coughlan and Widdrington might just have a couple of aces up their sleeves yet.

I reckon the squads currently on for the top half. If we can get 40 games each from little and THD I'm very excited. The current squad ? I just don’t see it. Without Bonhams ( who’s left) outstanding performances last season and JCHs wonder goals ( is he really going to keep scoring like that next season ?) we’d have been relegated with a few games left. Add to that we’ve lost our best centerhalf and captain in Lockyer , I actually think we’re probsbly weaker now than we were when we finished last season. Long way to go until the window ends / season starts but with no width , very little pace , no creative midfielder and only one striker who’s ever scored regularly over a 6 month period at the club I find it hard to get excited about a top half finish at the moment. I don't think mid table is that overboard. We've lost a lot of players but very few were being utilised by GC. Coughlan likes to point out that since hed been in we had the 8th or 9th best form so top half isn't even improvement. I agree some width will be key but feel THD and little should be very strong for this division

I love how people are talking like we are in late August and haven't made any signings, even though it isn't even 1st July yet!

I just heard an interview with GC on Radio Bris. He said he is expecting three more through the door. To me this means deals must be close to ship out two or three. Wos reckon?

The interesting period I feel will be between the 8th of August and end of August. Champ clubs will have there business done and will be interesting to see what League One and Two clubs are able to pic up

Ok, the new GK has only played 20 odd first team games for Volendam and 40 odd games for the Volendam 2nd team in the Dutch amateur 4th tier, where he conceded roughly 2 goals a game on average?

Thing is stats don't show everything. He's quite a bit younger than Bonham isn't he?? So how was Bonham doing at that age? Plus how many did he save etc? Still think we need another keeper, but he could be good. Coventry fans gutted to see Davies leave. Majority have said how good he is and hopefully he's one that GC can get the best out of. I don't judge player's until they play for us. I have been happy about signings and they have flopped. I have thought why did we sign them and they have done well.

At the same age Bonham was keeping 15 clean sheets for Carlisle. I'm hoping the Dutch lad will be decent, but his C.V. isn't anywhere near as impressive as Bonham's. Hopefully the other keeper we're bringing in will be of a similar level to Bonham. A few fans on the internet are gutted to see Davies leave after his 19 apps in the league and 30 goals conceded, even though they had two better first choice centre backs and have now signed Kyle McFadzean, a centre back with 100+ appearances at this level and 100+ appearances in the Championship? All we can go on and look at is the new signings past experience, but like you said, don't judge a player until they have played for us. Hopefully they all prove to be good signings.
