What a great thread to the best game of cricket I have ever seen.
Emotional rollercoaster and well done to both teams especially a very spirting New Zealand bunch of lads.
Shame the thread has now been spoilt by the usual suspects spouting their tripe ... Today’s lecture being on Court Room behaviour and undermining the heroes of the hour.

As you say that's your opinion. In following the Stokes case it was clear to me the character of the person. That combined with the catalogue of events since he's been a professional sportsman indicate to me a pattern of behaviour that I would hate to see young people making their way in life follow. Yawn. Anyone thinking its a good idea to follow the behaviour of any 'celebrity' is the victim of bad parenting nothing else. Growing up I was a fan of Mike Tyson, Ian Botham, maradona, Tony Adams, Paul Merson, McEnroe etc...I didn't choose to copy any of their behaviour, my parents taught me what was right and wrong. I watched and admired their sporting prowess not looking at them as some moral torchbearers or role model bullshit. I don't think I particularly lacked any guidence by my parents. And I'm unlikely to say to anyone's face that their views are bullshit. I'm aware how easy it is for the media to manipulate a story. Look how this thread has gone since my original comment. It must be an age thing but I suppose I've just got bored with people telling me that judgement of someone should begin and end with whether they've been found guilty or not guilty of a quite a technical offence in court. I suppose life experience has taught me more than that. Anyway I should leave you to the cricket discussion.

Yeah, quite clearly 'innocent until proven guilty' is an expression about the law, and refers to aspects under the law. So if you have a business to run, or a duty of care to the public, then you need to see what the law has said about someone. A private citizen can make their own mind up, however they like. Obviously it's better if they make as informed an opinion as possible but they're not obliged to. But just saying 'he's innocent until proven guilty in any context' is as stupid as saying 'there's no smoke without fire' or 'who smelt it dealt it.'

It was an absolute pleasure to witness Sporting history and one of the greatest games of cricket, of all time.
Equally a shame to see a discussion of said event, go downhill so rapidly.

What a great role model Stokes is for young sportsmen. How the hell is he still playing for England
Don't know what your problem is? He was found not guilty in a court of law.

Not complaining about the outcome but splitting a tied result on runs, surely the next thing is wickets taken?
Obviously pleased that isn’t the case but when the 2 objects are to score runs and get the oppo out, it doesn’t make much sense.
Champagne Super Over tho was great entertainment!

Fantastic match and World Cup. I put a tenor on New Zealand before the World Cup started to win it. It was a win win game for me. Watched Somerset tie a county match last season. I don’t like cricket, I loves it. Ban me don’t care 🏴🏴🏴🏏🏏🏏🏆🏆🏆 Never mind you only lost an Alfie Boe. At least you didn't risk a whole Luciano Pavarotti. Nessun dorma! Nessun dorma! Tu pure, oh Principessa Nella tua fredda stanza Guardi le stelle che tremano D'amore e di speranza Ma il mio mistero è chiuso in me Il nome mio nessun saprà No, no, sulla tua bocca lo dirò Quando la luce splenderà Ed il mio bacio scioglierà Il silenzio che ti fa mia (ll nome suo nessun saprà E noi dovrem, ahimè, morir, morir) Dilegua, oh notte! Tramontate, stelle! Tramontate, stelle! All'alba vincerò! Vincerà! Vincerò! Brings a tear to my eye, and i am hard as fook.

All the people crying out that a certain Welsh footballer shouldn't be castigated over previous offences; herein lies a lesson.
Ben Stokes was found not guilty of affray so is entitled to earn his living as a cricketer; and some would say is a better role model for youngsters in the game!
That's my opinion and I am open to sensible discussion on the matter. UTG As you say that's your opinion. In following the Stokes case it was clear to me the character of the person. Fantastic cricket match and great that it was on free to view channels so everyone could see it. In many ways it was the perfect cricket match. After 48 matches it came down to the last ball in the super over after the competition started in May. Brilliant and that everyone who wanted to could see it was even better. England fully deserved to win the competition, they were the best team over the whole competition and had to win their last four matches against the best 3 other teams to win it. The luck was with them over the last 20 minutes but overall they are the best team and deserved it. NZ showed everyone how to make the most of what they had, 3 or 4 world class cricketers led by a fantastic captain who played to a plan and who so nearly did it. I don’t usually agree over role models out of sportsmen but those Kiwis showed everyone how to lose with dignity and pride, best example of losing I’ve seen for some time. UTG!

Nessun dorma! Nessun dorma!
Tu pure, oh Principessa
Nella tua fredda stanza
Guardi le stelle che tremano
D'amore e di speranza
Ma il mio mistero è chiuso in me
Il nome mio nessun saprà
No, no, sulla tua bocca lo dirò
Quando la luce splenderà
Ed il mio bacio scioglierà
Il silenzio che ti fa mia
(ll nome suo nessun saprà
E noi dovrem, ahimè, morir, morir)
Dilegua, oh notte!
Tramontate, stelle!
Tramontate, stelle!
All'alba vincerò!
Vincerà!
Vincerò!
Now that was a tune. Far better than that tuneless pile of sh*t that introduced the Women's World Cup.

England...first and only country to have won the football, rugby and cricket World Cups. Have to say I've got a load of Kiwi mates over here that work in the yachting industry (even courted one) and not a lovelier bunch of people could you meet. Great sports and I felt for them. UTG!

To be fair, we're the only country that take those three sports seriously. (I guess you can say South Africa, now, as well.)
