And let's never forget Oscar the programme seller. Last I heard he was in sheltered housing, not in the best of health, sadly. He was a real character walking around the pitch, and much loved by all. John Keys arranges an annual collection via the FB page, to pay for season tickets for Oscar and his wife, and also to help with their transport costs to matches. He has not been forgotten.

(And that was a long time ago!) Good to know heโs still going, bless him!

As I recall, the Concorde cinema at the entrance used to show Swedish films. Was there a choice of entrances?

Attachment DeletedRecall the reserves playing on Alternate Sats against teams like Spurs.Jimmy Robertsons Spurs debut was at Eastville for their reserves and he scored a cracker. When he signed with Geoff Hurst for Stoke in his dotage,he visited one of the 8 pubs in my village of Eccleshall up here and I told him I'd witnessed his Spurs Debut goal which seemed to surprise him. First team matches cost me 9D to get in,late fifties. Also recall the Police being marched Army style to their assembly point at the Tote end Entrance. Biography: Scottish international now lives in the Potteries area. Was a Director of The Task Force Group, a computer insurance company. Now runs Gillen Financial services in Newcastle-under-Lyme. Seen here front right.Went on to stay up here playing for Vale and Walsall too.

If you're having issues and you'd rather not be on the forum atm, we can ban you. But really, calling someone an arsehole is not really a ban-able offence, on its own, mod or not. Shut up asshole. ๐ It's Arsehole, unless you are a yank

The size of that site with the Yoye End car park and the area where Tesco now stands could have housed a 50,000 all-seater with parking, bus terminals, and of course a mainline railway station a 5 minute walk away. I used the train every home game from Avonmouth. What a missed opportunity. Can see why people might say that with the benefit of hindsight. But I donโt recall (maybe wrong) too many clubs back in the day (assume that photo is mid 60โs at latest) going for those sorts of developments. Itโs only post the various and sad tragedies that blighted football grounds home and abroad that the calls were made to modernise grounds which was therefore much later than this photo. The other factor is that, suppose the ground was developed as suggested (have to ask what would have driven them to do so given the way we were back then) how would it sit with the modern day retail developments that sits around it now (ok accept that it would be different to that currently in place)? Traffic, motorway etc. All speculation I grant you, but think what I am saying is that it is easy with the benefit of hindsight to say one thing now that in reality, rightly or wrongly, was not the thought processes of a lot of clubs in the time back then. Hopefully that makes some sort of sense. Anyway onwards to the new stadium....whatโs that you say? Havenโt you heard? Oops! Was supposed to be a secret.....ah well! Agree. Spot on. I think they sold the ground in the war, 1939/1940 years. The alternative was bankruptcy and with the war on there might not have been a club to come back to in 1945. Different times, different attitudes towards money and football. UTG!

Interesting that we went for mood lighting along the side rather than floodlights in the corner. ๐ That was for the dog track and speedway

I can almost see the barrier my grandfather and I used to lean aganist. We were living in Heath Road when they demolished the thirteen arches to make way for the M32. Anyone remember them? I can hear the explosion now.
Anyway, when I become a multi-billionairre I going to buy Ikea or Tescos and whoever is on our site and redevelop it into a 60,000 seater stadium. The stands will be called the Tote End (obviously), the Geoff Bradford stand, the Stuart Taylor stand and one other. Any suggestions?
