Have had a look on the supporters club website and can not find details on the player of the year awards. Out of interest who was their player of the year, James Clarke possibly? If so, that would have been a pointless exercise. Or have I got the wrong end of the stick and gasincider is talking about the last home game of the season when the awards are usually presented. I can not remember if they were, usually done before kick off? Come on Ken, there's a few questions for you? It seems according to "Jim's Jottings" the winners were never announced, god knows why not as there must always be a chance the winner has left the club by the time a new season starts from recent past experience, although he suggested the wanted to do it at the open day not the first match of the season. "A big ‘thank you’ to everyone who has taken the time and trouble to vote for the Supporters Club’s Player of the Year and Goal of the Season. The votes will have been counted by the time you read this (5 May) but we are holding back the presentation of trophies until we hold an ‘open day’ here in the summer" bristolroverssc.co.uk/jims-jottings-58/

Would not surprise me. But surely if that is the best Ken can do his position is completely untenable? It’s not his best effort, but it’s shows what it has come to and just how pathetic they all are as characters. I cant believe all SC is that way though. There are still a lot of good people involved.

Really don't see the point in a "pitchside presentation of last season's player of the year awards". We're in to a new season now. Think the club made the right decision tbh. Nice to have you back though, with another positive contribution. Ironically you and a couple of other posters on here are exactly the type of "supporter" GC's comments are aimed at. nailed it.
last season is gone, all of the presentations etc were completed last season. why would anyone want to rerun it? perhaps if we had a barnstorming season, but we didnt.
I think the whole purpose of a pitchside presentation was to preen the ego's of a select few. Despite the SC's sterling work during the Eastville days it appears they are largely sadly irrelevant now, its a dinosaur as Roady says from the 60's needs re inventing starting at the top. Interesting that the OP mentions its made up of 25% of the fanbase that suggests to me that 75% have no interest in it whatsoever. Also if the post was initiated to stir up more trouble, reading through the thread it appears they have shot themselves in the foot !

Judging by a certain posters posts and performance at the AGM/fans forum I’m assuming that they might not be all there - either that or an extreme case of misplaced entitlement. Not really sure we should give them the satisfaction of a 10 page thread.
I myself have been quite negative over the summer due to lack of signings, London office, late release of kit etc however as someone mentioned on the previous thread these are things all football fans moan about.
But getting involved in the politicking and corridors of whispers is counterproductive and breeds negativity. Texting and backstabbing between employees and ‘supporters’ club etc. is it any wonder certain people are no longer welcome at the club or have been removed from their positions?
While WAQ hasn’t invested as much as we’d like (training ground and stadium) he has saved us from admin (for now) and employed people such as Gorringe who’re slowly but surely looking to improve things whether it be better sponsorship, facilities or general touching up of the Mem (electronic advertising and new screen), so there are positives.
Moaning that you weren’t granted your wish of presenting the ‘player of the season’ award at the opening day for a new season takes the biscuit. Only time for such award is the final home game of the season.

I must admit when I read the thread title I was expecting a post from Bolders relating to an unsynchronised wankfest.

Picking up on 81's references to the football clubs AGM, I thought it was positively embarrassing. There were one or two people at the front who seemed to want to embarrass both themselves and the board. It was shocking actually. There was very little substance, but a lot of moaning without actual facts being quoted. I too would have handled the meeting differently if I had been chairing it.
Agreed that not everything is wonderful at the club - but there are ways and means to both get your point across and in how to conduct yourself and one or two people from the floor quite frankly made a right fool of themselves.
As Wael said to them quietly and courteously at the very end of the meeting... "Just let it go........just let it go"

Not suggesting I’m a typical Rovers supporter by any means but here’s my twopennyworth. Isolated away from Bristol I have joined various rovers support groups over the years. I am still a member of the Helpline, because that set out with a set of objectives that it has always stuck to. I’m still a season ticket holder whether I can make ten, fifteen, twenty or the full whack of games, because that close season cash injection is more vital to clubs that do not make so much money out of TV rights or being a member of an elite League. Me and my Dad both became platinum members of the share scheme, I let my membership lapse before he did, because we were getting further away from the stated objectives with every year that passed, he let his lapse only when he had to move into a nursing home but did wring his hands a lot saying hadn’t he joined the share scheme to stop this or that from happening? So his disillusionment with it was as palpable as mine - it was a well intentioned but mis-managed club support mechanism. I still participate in fifty fifty draws because there are always specific aims for the funds to be put towards, its no longer buy a roof or a bulb, but supporting youth development is something I am happy to endorse. I’ve joined the supporters club a few times over the years and admire attempts to represent a diverse and disparate fan base, but ultimately felt that whoever it was representing it was not me.... and did not agree with some of the stances it took or the means it used to put its point across. Since it would appear that 75% of our supporters do not feel inclined to join our supporters club it suggests that maybe the organisation should reappraise how it is perceived, the methods it uses and the aims it wants to aspire to achieving.
Since it was the club open day I believe it was quite right of them to concentrate on club endorsed activities rather than hand over part of the afternoon to an award ceremony representing a support group that struggles to represent itself coherently.

If this is the same Supporters club who can just about fill 2 coaches sometimes for away gamesthen I am sure it doesn't represent 25% of the club fanbase. It has long since been a Club that uses a couple of opinions to represent the so called 25% with probably very few actually agreeing with those views.I always thought that the idea of a supporters club was to SUPPORT the club rather than what exists which seems to go out of its way to pick an argument!!

Well yes and no. Sort of. Its only really since the Al-Qadis took over that there has been a different attitude. The SC would have been accused of blindly supporting the club for many years and I have argued that they should argue back when appropriate. I dont have a problem with any SC having a disagreement with the club if it is represeting the supporters interests. The problem is they either dont know who they are representing and/or have no idea how to do it properly. Secret whispers to a select few is ineffective or has a more deliberate motive

Curried up to Higgs after the Mansfield game and now upset over a player of the year pitch side award in Div1

Thought it was very sad that GC feels that some fans are being critical of some of the new signings and general negativity surrounding the club etc etc. Today i went along to the open day, and I must admit I haven't seen or heard much in the way of criticism by fans at the friendlies or indeed on here, not that I read most of the stuff on here. So imagine my surprise when I was told today that the supporters club wanted to do a pitchside presentation of last seasons player of the year awards, but were refused permission to do so , presumably by either Gorringe, Starnes or both. Remember, the supporters club represent over 25% of our fan base, and it would therefore have been another big positive ahead of next weeks season opener. I wonder if it's this sort of thing that GC was on about when he said about all pulling together. Not everyone feels the need to join or generally support the Supporters Club, but as they represent such a large part of our fan base, shouldn't the club be trying to nurture them as opposed to seemingly wishing to see them diminish? The presentations would only have taken about 10 minutes to complete, so I fail to see how they could have interrupted the scheduling in any way. Indeed, there were several quite lengthy intervals during the proceedings when they could have been done with no disruption at all. It seems to me that this is another own goal, and would have been so easy to avoid. I hope that one of the powers that be can comment as to why a simple positive request was ludicrously turned down? Rovers most recent tweet would suggest an on the pitch presentation was completed by the supporters club at the end of the season. I can’t upload the image but if anyone can that would be much appreciated.

Let’s be honest, you can’t exactly miss the fella. Holier than though & self entitlement to the extreme. If the term ‘loving the sound of your own voice’ had a mugshot, he’d be all over it. Dropping back to ‘Jim’s Jottings’, I’m still laughing at his WAQ dig on Automatic promotion day and the whole ‘this was Nick’s team’ dummy spitting session. If ever there was a time to realise what kind of people sit at the SC top table, that was it.

That’s the one! Now to me that looks like a supporters club presentation on the pitch with the players. Does it really matter whether that’s during a game or not?
