Who? What? You never agree with anyone, even yourself. You're right. you should see the arguments I have with that old bloke in the mirror! He’s quick though. Every time I try to catch him, he’s gone, the bar steward. I’ll have him one of these days, the old lady garden

No one is saying it wasn’t a success Nev, because it was. But DC lost his way and that can’t be denied. Who abandoned his policies, principals and his own rules once he had a bit more money to spend and a bit more power to wield. DC had this obsession with 10th and beating Trolls but he lost his way and actually morphed into him in a way by giving out long and expensive contracts to players who didn’t earn it, playing his favourites regardless of form because of some thinking that undivided loyalty would mean they would run all day for him and that same loyalty would mean they would never desert him. There is nothing wrong with taking on an ageing player from the championship, but not on £3.5k per week and a 2+1 appearance based contract. There is nothing wrong in having a punt on a player from the conference who is in form and scoring goals, but don’t pay him nearly £2k per week. You need to be a shrewd manager in L1. Spending a fortune won’t guarantee you success. Leeds, Charlton, Notts Forrest and Pompey have all discovered that the hard way. Don't disagree with any of that 1981 (btw who tf is Nev?) but saying 'no one is saying it/he wasn't a success' is false. There's plenty of posters on this forum with an obsession agenda against arguably our most successful manager ever and it's sad to see his clear successes (back-to-back promotions and two healthy L1 finishes) get tarnished on the basis of some disliking the bloke or being blinded by a poor final season. He deserved to go when he did. He needed to. But a poor four months shouldn't write off a good four years IMO. Edit: just read that back and it seems slightly argumentative. I assure you it's not Plus, one very important thing, he managed to get us galvanised as a fan base and really did give us our rovers back. He did a great job but he made the mistake of having ambition and that just won’t do at the club. He was just as fed up with the training ground and stadium fiasco as we were but he was very public about it, in his post match interviews and other media outlets. His mistake was wanting the club to progress, as he was promised. He didn’t turn Leeds down because he wanted to stay at the mem. He will tell you that in person, if he ever comes here. He doesn’t deserve the stick many give him IMO. He did something no other Rovers manager has done, in getting back to back promotions and, of course, he wanted to be able to push on from that but the rest is history. If he had been able to calm himself and not persistently have a dig at the owners then I’m sure they would have stuck with him

Utg Would you rather have a manager just shuts up and accepts our crap facilities for what they are though? DC always fought the fans corner and wasn’t afraid to speak his mind when he was unhappy with something. I don’t mind Coughlan but I’m not sure if you can say the same about him.

But where I disagree with you is his what he said in the media at times. Discretion is the better part of valour from time to time and I too have heard the off the record things DC said to some journos and it was disrespectful to say the least. He didn’t get his stadium and training ground but he pretty much got everything else. Even the appointment of Martyn Starnes was because DC and Hamer had a massive falling out and DC no longer trusted him and told Wael he needed a proper football man as his CEO. I believe that some of DCs negative comments have contributed to discontent amongst the fan base today towards the owners. However DC will be fondly remembered by me for some very good times and saving our club from the brink and really, no one is perfect.

DC did always fought the fans corner. He was ambitious for the club and himself . Trouble is BRFC have no ambition, full stop . Utg.
