I totally understand why some feel real hostility, but putting aside they got him from us, the buyout clause was public knowledge, he was a top League 1 striker and they were in the mire so well worth a punt, and he made 15 appearences (just checked) in that half season so pretty well used bearing in mind he has had injury problems throughout his time there which will have reduced his game time but 66 times on the pitch in 3 seasons when fit so not exactly bought out of spite i'd say. As for an agreement not to sign each others players, nobody knew of that before did they. That welcome to Bristol crap, not his decision was it. Just like when all those ex sh** go to Cardiff and do the head tapping it bends them out of shape too . I am sorry, but that is absolutely no excuse. I simply refuse to believe that he could not have looked up and said 'You know what, I am not actually happy about you guys posting that picture. I have just left that club and they gave me my break in the football league and the fans were absolutely brilliant with me from day 1 and for those reasons I would prefer it if you did not use my signing here as a chance to goad the club I have just left and owe so much to'. But he didn't, he stood there and grinned. He is a little rat and I hope he is kicked off the pitch (with a little luck landing in the Blackthorn). Fair enough how you feel, but the infamous photo was clearly "enhanced" on the right hand side don't you think ? I doubt his agent negotiated image rights and he would have therefore been in no position to prevent it being published however he felt about it but its clear he didn't stand in front of a placard saying welcome to Bristol.. As tasteless as it was, its possible that would have been a standard stock image that they would have put any player next to. I'm not sure if they did use it for anyone else they signed? If not then its even lower than I would expect from them. I doubt very much Snakey would have had anything to do with that though, hes just holding a shirt of his new club.
We gave mark little a scarf which said "true blue forever" or words to that effect when he signed for us....not the same, but you get my point.

Totally agree and get the point about Mark, and if they hadn't done it with any other signings then it was frankly shithousery of the highest order but I do reckon he just stood in front of a board. No idea about their usual practices for obvious reasons but being a sad bastard I did just check 3 x 2017 signings Magnusson Duric and Hegeler and I don't see anything Classless club.

Letβs be honest here, As much as it watered me off at the time , he was not a rovers supporter, he was an employee of the club WE all support. A bigger club with a bigger fan base , better wages, better training ground , better stadium , better infrastructure, better prospects to play against many ex premier league clubs came in for him and he decided to leave. You canβt tell me that none of you on here would of done the same if you were him. It looks like his move to that lot down the road hasnβt worked out for him ( footballing wise ) but I expect he is nice and comfortable financially. Would I want him back here now , of course I would as he is still a fantastic league 1 player as he is someone we have never replaced. But if he does sign for Oxford and play at the mem , Of course I will give him no end of sh**.

Anyone who wouldnβt jump ship for 4X the wages is kidding themselves, not even a logical debate.
Time to put a lock on this thread and give him belters if he does join Oxford and play against us in a few weeks - when heβll inevitably score and shush the Blackthorn.

Not that they have had many opportunities to use it ..

Do we know if he had options ? Can't remember. Apparently only City made an offer for him which exactly matched his release clause. He had quite a few mates in the City team so wouldn't have taken a genius to get the word across. I still find it amazing how nobody else came in for him when his goal ratio was consistently 1 in 2, considering the transfers of average strikers like Chaplin, McNulty, Kayden Jackson, Will Grigg, Charlie Wyke, Jordan Hugill and James Norwood. Well I would think it was amazing if I didnt believe the whole City transfer was manufactured.

It was out there in the public arena, for any other club who fancied taking a punt.

Anyway that makes is look even more underhanded how City were the only club 'interested' in a 20 goal a season striker for Β£350k. Almost as if the whole deal was done long before Rovers knew about it....

I can't believe more would not have come in for him if the 300K was common knowledge. Part of the reason for doing it at the last minute was to prevent other clubs coming in with better offers to him and us. The truth is Taylor was probably settled in Bristol and quite happy not to have to move, he thought it was the easy option and perhaps did not realise just how unpopular he was going to be post move - I get the impression he is not the brightest person. Having signed a contract he had little choice but to try to brush off how much he was hated by Rovers fans, but I suspect it does hurt. Not making excuses for him - I think he thought it was an easy option and did not understand what he was letting himself in for.
Having said all of that hope he gets a shed load of stick if he plays us in the future.
Finally I reckon if he was going to Oxford it would be a done deal by now, think he was just having a day out in his home town having lost even his bench warming spot at 82. Feel while he is under contract at Ashton he will again take the easy option of turning up for training and picking up a wage.

Matt Taylor knew full well he would never be a regular starter for City but happy enough to run his contract down picking up the pay cheque. Nothing wrong with that by the way, we'd all like to earn as much as possible for the least amount of work, but just shows the level of his ambition as a footballer. Wasted talent.

You are correct LMW, wasted talent. Mind you Iβm not sure that you can compare him with Gavin Reilly. I wonder how Taylor would have performed with our current, poor midfield instead of Mansell, Lines, Bodin and Monkhouse who provided all the chances for him. Perhaps weβd have been glad to see him go and I bet Reilly and all our strikers would have done better with those midfielders. Different times eh? UTG!

Taken from Oxford forum, first guess would be James Clarke...
Iβve been told by an ex Bristol Rovers player that Taylor went from Β£4k to Β£14k a week at Bristol City!!!

Wow if thatβs true it puts a lot of perspective as to why he left us for them. I know doing the dirty on us upset a lot of fans me included, but itβs hard to disagree with a professional footballer making a move like that when it sets him up for the rest of his life. A player who came to us from non league to a player with the opportunity to play championship football on that amount of money! I think most of us would of made the same decision. Still he is gone now and with definitely get the reception he deserves if he ever makes an appearance here at the mem π€£

For f%"k sake it's about time we put this Taylor hatred to bed the bloke scored many crucial goals for us, has a family to support and how many people would turn down the chance to triple their wages, the days of loyalty in football have long gone, i was not any happier than any other Gashead about the way it all happened but our board/management perhaps should have been a bit more astute in the contract negotiations surely? I am fed up of all this childish abuse, The best way to look at it is he has been a failure at Trashton and more or less been in the football wilderness for last year or two and may never get back to being what he was.

Jesus Christ this Taylor love in is nauseating. He did the worst thing that is possible, in football terms, for Rovers fans. No forgiveness. At all.
