Well in normal circumstances you shouldn't make any decisions on relegation until after Christmas but based on last nights events I would say that three relegation spots are pretty well booked and we will be fighting to not fill the fourth spot! Bury look to be gone without a fight and Boltons damn right cheating to cancel last nights game should be dealt with by the EFL hopefully with a transfer ban that should have been imposed when they messed Forest Green around with Doidge and they too should be relegated and I would be very surprised if last nights opponents don't fill the third spot because they were bloody awful!
That said a win is a win and there were some plus points- Kilgour is developing into a solid player, Davies looks like he could be a good captain, Clarke-Harris is getting fitter slowly and is off the mark and at last saw what a good player Ed Upson is and could be even better if we can sign an accomplished creative player to play with him. Jaakkola 7 Didn't have a lot to do but what he did he did well. Distribution was the best I have seen from him and took a couple of crosses well. I have a feeling that we have a very good keeper here for a few years and at last may have solved the problem of getting a keeper that is ours.
Davies 8 Very good performance from a player who IMO could and should now be made captain as he leads players. More performances like this and we will be forgetting Tom Lockyer and that is not being disrespectful and meant in the nicest way! Craig 7.5 Didn't deserve to be left out after the Wycombe game and came back in to a back three with three central defenders and did very well.He looked solid throughout and though I am not a great fan of playing with wing backs it may have to b e the style going forward if we can't sign a couple of decent attacking players. Kilgour 7.5 One poor mistake that could easily have conceded a goal but other than that a very good performance and looked like he had played there for years.
Hare 7.5 Some fantastic crosses including the one that created the towering well placed header from Clarke-Harris for the vital first League goal of the season and looks to be a brgain signing if like Leahy he can make this his benchmark Clarke 5 Sorry but he needs a period on the bench. Has been consistently poor so far this season and whilst last night was probably his best performance it was way below the standard required from our skipper. He received the ball so m uch last night and was in a position to drive forward but just didn't or if he did lost the ball.
Upson 8.5 MOM Proved to me that he is a good player. Dominated proceedings throughout and the quicker we can sign an accomplished creative midfielder to play alongside him the better. Rarely gave the ball away and kept fighting for every ball and every bit of possession. We should be going all out to get a couple of more pacy players out wide but for me to add a bit of pace and creativity alongside Upson would be the n umber 1 priority. Ogogo 6.5 Did exactly what it says on the tin and fought for every ball and won a lot of challenges. He's never going to be spectacular but a very useful player who does a lot of the dirty work that goes unnoticed. Leahy 6.5 Not quite as good as Hare but definitely a better performance from him and one which gives me hope that he could be another good signing if he can make last nights performance as his bench mark. It would be fantastic if we can get Little and Holmes-Denis back fit again and have some good competition for places.
Smith 7 The thing I likabout young Smith is exactly what I dislike about Tom Nichols- he wants to get in the six yard box and try to score goals. His run across the keeper made the first goal and he probably should have scored from close in during the second half but he also won and converted the penalty and generally made a nuisance of himself. Silly booking for taking his shirt off. Clarke-Harris 7.5 getting better and could easily have had a hat trick. Well place dheader gave us the lead and great turn of pace in the first half hinted that his fitness was returning. Will be a real beast when fully fit and looking forward to many even better performances.
Subs: Bennett 5 Came on and prompted but I felt it was the wrong substitution and we would have been better off bringing on a bit of pace in Rodman as Bennett does IMO slow the game down too much especially when you are playing against nine. Adeboyejo 5 Tried hard and IMO will get better and press for a regular place. Nichols 3 Woeful an d has to go. Sorry Tom but the fact he couldn't take the glorious chance presented when clean through with just the keeper to beat was for me the final nail in the coffin. We should be signing another striker and doing everything to loan him out.
Crowd 6 It is worrying that we are down to about 6500 for a home match but the crowd stuck with the team and gave Stefan Payne a warm welcome on his return. Ref 7 Did OK. Got most important decisions right. Amazing that with six substitutes and two sending offs there was only 3 minutes additional time. Tranmere 3 What a god awful side! In disciplined which rightly resulted in red cards and it could easily have been more., Presented little threat and for me definite relegation candidates. The fact they beat Bolton 5-0 on Saturday shows what a poor side Bolton are rather than how good Tranmere are. Looked just like a League 2 side.
GC- Not going to either criticise or praise too much but this was a very important win but Saturday will be a much better indicator as to where we are and new signings are still required and will for me be an important factor in his future as our Manager.
Anyway bring on Oxford and the Snake and another chance for the fans to "welcome" a player back- who could have asked for Stefan Payne followed by Matty Taylor? My last comment mind is - if Stefan Payne can't get a place in that awful Tranmere side then our opinion of him was right! UTG

I would argue the keepers distribution was not all great. I can remember three kicks from the hands going wildly out of play. His distribution from hand was good though, i guess he always had that outlet either side of him with five at the back, he seemed more commanding in catching the ball as well.

Cheers Steve. And thanks for the detailed analysis of Ollie Clarke. That just about summed up his performance. Did very little and a captain he is not. When they went down to nine men and we dropped back deeper and deeper, I would expect our captain to be barking out orders, something that was badly needed but we got nothing. At one stage when we were attacking they had one man up front chaperoned by six of our players and our four farther forward were battling against seven of theirs and the keeper. Seemed like we were just trying to hang on to our one nil lead from the time the second man was sent off.

There must be some reason he has been made captain and has almost been ever present for a number of years. He can tackle, he backtracks, he supports the forwards, he can shoot. Last night when they went down to 10 and 9 we just didn't go gung ho, and Ollie wasn't alone in moving the ball sideways. I agree that Upson had a good game but I have seen Ollie have them regularly and frequently. The comment that this performance proves what a good player Upson is, sorry but the same way one stray pass gets you a 5, doesn't mean you are an 8 or 9 every game with one decent performance.

UTG GC suggested in his pre-match interview that any further signings were looking unlikely, I think you're going to be disappointed if you expect a number of new quality signings and also TN to depart before next May!!

The player ratings thread on this forum does not lie, he has been our worse player in every game this season. It should also be noted the number of contributors to this thread has increased considerably this season and in my opinion is a very fair reflection on players performances.

The worst player every game this season. We may not agree and I wonder if that is through expectation.
Ollie has always been the more enforcer defensive style of player, and putting in the pedestrian Upson and Agoggo and an underperforming Serc, is it the sheer expectation that he has the vison and range of an in form Lines? None of our midfield have that. Give me Ollie in his best role with the additional creativity we all crave over Upson and Agoggo.

Sorry fella but that's just not right. Ollie had a great game last night. If I could critisize him for anything it was lack of tempo laying off to Hare & Leahy who were in achres of space when they went down to 9. Other than that, thought it was an excellent example of what a Captain should be all about.

I post my ratings after watching the game with my own eyes, just as I would expect others would do. Certainly nothing to do with "expectation" as you suggest. Ratings don't lie in my book.

These ratings have definitely been inflated by the positive result. Imagine if Tranmere equalised there'd be 3's and 4's everywhere.

Mmmmm, I still think i’d rely on the few managers he has played under & pick him consistently, over a few opinions on here. I don’t think we played well against 9, but we had a manager & an assistant on the sidelines, if they couldn’t get it across to the defence to push up & ‘wannabe’ captains Davies / Craig couldn’t manage it, then what chance Ollie? Still, there has to be a scapegoat & Nicolls wasn’t on long enough- or was he? Best I have see Upson play btw, but over the last 12 months I would pick Ollie over him any day.
