. Exactly plus I think it's been mentioned that the mem can't be sold, unless we have another site. So you can't really count that as equity anyway. Fans bang on it's a loan, but they are the ones paying the loan. That's just the way football clubs do it. They are unlikely to ever get that money back. So it's still an investment. Only chance they have of getting any of it back, is if we get a new ground etc and then they sell us. Don't think anyone will be moaning then anyway. They aren't paying anything though as they are simply rolling the interest payments into the ever increasing debt, what happens when the debt eventually hits the equity value in the Mem in the next couple of years? I guess they'll just pay that off, like they did when they bought us?

I am sorry if that is how you see it madgas because I, like most, have welcomed the Al-Qadi family involvement from the off, but sidelining the support groups who worked hard with previous Directors to finance the Mem purchase, and increasing the debt while eroding the hard earned equity is in my view folly. This Club has always been regarded as a 'family' club which has been a major strength with all working together for the common good. Time and resource has been provided in abundance by the support groups over many years - it is not all one way you know, but that seems to have been forgotten. Perhaps. But under the helm of Geoff Dunford and with the “confidants” guidance you sent us into L2 for the first time, from which we never truly recovered. Also under that ownership the club did not continue to modernise and that by the time Higgs took over the only real option was to look for a new stadium, which is where the current circle started. Slightly harsh, but overall fair. Geoff and the family will always be legends and continue to support the club to this day.
However facts are facts. I hope this sorry state of affairs sorts itself out one way or the other pretty sharpish - UTG

Knowall, I would like to know if our club goes back to being 'in house' will it have the fortune, that's required now, to invest in a football League club?

Not wishing to go over old ground BUT would you say that the club was a family club back in 2006 when new people came up with ideas both inside and outside the club and were roundly rejected and some had legal threatening letters sent to them? I understand where you are coming from but I think you need to take off those rose tinted spectacles if you want to fully embrace the future. It has not been all wine and roses in the past and simply going back to a cosy little clique is not going to help this club progress. We need to embrace ALL parties and use the expertise and knowledge the club has in its fanbase to go forward. That's of course if people are willing to forgive and forget.....

Well you cant get all misty eyed about the past without looking at the true facts that went on Phil. No one actually stood up and was counted for the relegation and terrible years that followed. Everyone forgets too that Dunford around 2 years later put the club up for sale, but no buyers came forward. Thing is there are many pointing backwards to the Halcyon days after we returned to Bristol etc, but that was 20 years ago nearly. And from 2001 onwards, under the stewardship of those who are hailing themselves as the only ones "to get the club back", they had many failings which we cannot go backwards towards. Facts are football has moved on, you need an ever depeleting pot of money to compete and decent facilities. And we have neither.
