Groans, not this again, but with players coming back from injury with experience*it would be a good chance to offer game time to some of the development side.
JVS Little Meyanese Kilgour Kelly
Rodman Russe Sercs Bennett
Nichols Moore
Sub's Andre Jnr Ben Morgan Hargreaves Widdrington Mensah (if he is coming back next season) Tomlinson Kavanagh
* not sure of the rules re played last game/have over x no of games experience.
I would not play the loans, as I would rather see our players developed in the competition

We will have to ask Bolton what the rules are as they seem to make them up.

We will have to ask Bolton what the rules are as they seem to make them up. That is a really good point! Seems a bit hypocritical to deem clubs playing a weakened side now! What is a weakened side anyway? Surely it should be up to the club to decide if they want to play their development squad or not? Rovers should play their entire dev squad in this completion and no fans should attend and maybe people will wake up to the sickness of this competition.

In five to ten years, more clubs will be allowed to go the same way as Bury.
They will then be replaced by U23 Premier League teams.
The next Bristol derby will be against City U23"s.

The fans don’t want this competition, The experienced players don’t want it , clubs only support it when it comes into the latter stages, why oh why do the league persist with this competition , the EFL are just arrogant stubborn idiotic bafoons, footnote: EFL brought in the new rules rules to promote the Under 21s to develop , but how many Under 21s have made it to a final?... I rest my case no further questions m’lord

Dont think the rules mention anything about a "weakened side" Its just that you have to play a certain number of players that have played in last league game or something along those lines. Try not to laugh but the idea is for young home grown players at premier league clubs get game time against experienced pro footballers. Believe the rules still apply even if your playing plymouth but not certain.

They also moan in the media about overworking players (hell, we usually have 46 league games plus at least five in the cups if we go out at the earliest stage) but have this stupid tournament, adding fixtures and meaning less available spaces to play rearranged games in future due to the inevitable winter postponements - and to clarify, I mean they'd be able to play league fixtures in these slots instead and leave more fixture gaps in the new year instead.

Landsdown will enter there U23s side in this Trophy once there if asked just in order to have a chance for there Kids side to play us in a competitive game against our first side to embarrass us.

I've said it before many times but I can't help myself. This competition truly epitomises everything that I hate about what football has become. The elite get stronger at the expense of the "little clubs" and we are one of the many lower league clubs being forced to take it up the backside.

Bury, a club with 134 years of history not allowed to compete in lower league competition. Chelsea U23's, Man City U23's and 14 other U23 teams competing in lower league competition. What a horrible state of affairs. And the crazy thing some are prepared to put their head in the sand and support this farce of a competition.

Bristol C**y being ‘set’ for the premier league is always a laughable one. In that, so are the other 23 teams in that division. There isn’t a single side whose facilities and infrastructure aren’t up to top level standards.
Having a billionaire at the helm for so long, you would think it goes without saying.

Also makes me laugh because a lot of people seem to forget the financial clout behind the three PL relegated teams each season purely from the parachute payments. Some are/will be crap (Stoke, Huddersfield, Sunderland) but most well-managed clubs should be easily in line to be straight back in the promotion hunt after relegation, making it harder for a club like City, who've never been in the promised land, compete.

I would not play the loans, as I would rather see our players developed in the competition I was going to say that Russe wouldn't be available as he is out on loan at Gloucester, but I noticed from the EFL website:
"Meanwhile, a number of minor rule changes were confirmed for 2018/19 with EFL clubs now being given the opportunity to name players who are out on-loan at National League clubs, whilst invited teams will only be able to name two players who are over the age of 21 and have made more than 40 First Team appearances."
The rules on under-strength teams are a bit more reasonable than in previous seasons. As I understand it:
Teams must include four players in their starting line-up which meet at least one section of the following criteria for 'qualifying players'. 1. Started last league game 2. Starts the next league game 3. Is in the list of 10 outfield players to have started the most games in first-team fixtures this season 4. Has made 40 or more first-team appearances during their career 5. Is on loan from a Premier League club
Clubs not fulfilling the criteria will face a £5,000 fine.
