The 82ers are a higher standard and get 3 times the gates we get so I take it you have written to Radio Bristol to ensure they get 2/3rds more coverage than us then. Good for you. They already do. The difference is that is actually a higher standard. Women's football is not. Apples and Oranges.

I'm going to come out and say it. I wonder if there's been any female supporters of the Gas Girl's drop in to the forum, and read some of these comments, and turned around feeling rather unwelcome. This thread seems a bit 1970's blokey. "Women should be in the kitchen and not on the turf". Come on guys True Westy, these girls represent our club, I am looking forward to seeing them progress. I’m sure the majority of Gasheads would like to see them doing well.

I move back to UK next year, if I'm free I'll probably pop down to watch the Gas Girls - I enjoy women football, the World Cup was a great advertisement. The entertainment value was way ahead of some of the mens games IMO.
Looking forward to the Euros 2021, with England being the host - that will be a great atmosphere

Thanks Farmy for bringing this to our attention and I hope to see updates posted from other games too, maybe include 'Women' in the title so those that aren't interested don't click the thread and let us know how uninterested they are.
So I checked the fixtures and first home game is Forest of Dean on October 6th, I'll try and get to that one. Any idea who our strongest rivals in this division will be?
UTGG!

31,000 watched Man City womens on Saturday while only 6500 watched us. Is it really unfair that they got more coverage? I don't buy this 'PC brigade stuffing it down our throats' nonsense. If you don't like women's football then scroll on. Don't even get me started on women pundits. If you can make a case of Lawrenson being a better pundit than Alex Scott then you're a genius. This topic has been done several times over on here and no doubt the arguments will be recycled in this thread. The fact is that women's football has received a disproportionate amount of coverage for a while now which is due to media attempting to promote the cause, openly in many cases. I personally feel there is a political element to this and it's understandable many are calling it out. When established media outlets attempt to promote selective social causes their credibility rapidly gets called into question. Good luck to the Gas Girls and the women's game in general. It doesn't interest me but wish them the best.

There is definitely a political element to it and there is nothing wrong with challenging that. Good luck to the gas girls. I hope they do well.

That's it. I'm all for the diversification of punditry - there's some really articulate and insightful people out there who have never played at the top level but would add real value to the viewer experience. Sadly that doesn't appear to be the motivate currently.

Fair play. I guess this is the place to have a moan about women's football. I notice the BBC are constantly trying to over push it. Yesterday you had loads of league 1 and 2 matches on yet if you clicked on the BBC football website, the main bit was saying for women's premier league score updates. If people want to watch women's football that is up to them but it does feel like let's focus on just the prem/champ men's and women's but feck the lower league teams (unless it's Salford or Sunderland). That's off my chest anyway. OK, tell me again how many turned up to watch Rovers on Saturday and how many turned up to the Etihad?

I'm not saying she doesn't have the knowledge but the sound of her voice is horrendous?

I also don’t get this ‘being pushed on us’ argument. Ok, when I was a kid with only three tv channels, if women’s football had been on all three then you could make that point but not now surely? Also, it was great to see a girl make her debut for my son’s U11 team yesterday - showed some of the boys up to be honest.

A simple report on headline news on BBC Football over the last twelve months would illustrate that perfectly.

I'm also interested to know what the average attendance was last season in the WSL? Looking at a fixture last season as an example. Man City vs Liverpool was 1500 fans. That Manchester derby is a one off example at the start of the women's season. Let's be honest That match is as much about the 2 club's badges as women's football and the fact there was no premier league action. Gassy came back to me about my prawnnsandwich comment and I expected that because I can't prove or equate how real the support it. But those numbers say it all to me and a lot of it is day trippers. Women's football will probably evolve more and more over the years and I'm sure it will have its followers. Just please don't ram it down our throats like the BBC are trying to at the moment.

Backing my point up with numbers, nothing odd about that.

Backing my point up with numbers, nothing odd about that. 26.5m watched the 2018 Men's World Cup Semi-Final vs Croatia. 11.7m watched the 2019 Women's Semi-Final vs The US. 11.3m watched the 2019 Champions League Final. 9.6m watched the 2019 Men's Wimbledon Final. 8.3m watched the 2019 Cricket World Cup Final. 2.8m watched the 2019 British Grand Prix.
The Women's World Cup Semi Final was the most watched TV event of 2019 thus far.
