Agree re Smith .Need to send him back .He is really poor. Our goal threat is somewhat soporific.Benno not the best but much better than Nichols or Smith surely?? Christ, how bad is Nichols then because at least Smith has scored a few goals so far!

Steve you're at it again - The Life and soul of the party when The Gas win but when we lose or (draw at Home) you can make Teresa May sound mildly fun !
Shame on you for your comments about Tyler Smith too !

The Maldon & Tiptree lads Danny Parish and Jorome Slew would definitely be worth a trial. As a youngster Slew was rated as a better prospect at the same age than his brother Jordan who represented England at youth level, but unfortunately suffered a broken leg that halted his progress. Barnsley gave him an extended trial while he was banging in the goals playing for Mousehole down in Cornwall following his release by Sheffield United. Parish was top scorer with Brentford at three different age groups and scored goals against the Barcelona, Valencia, Inter Milan and Liverpool youth teams during his time at the club. Since dropping into non-league he has scored 62 goals in 72 games. Pace to burn and great finishing, definitely worth a trial

IIRC in that book you recommended on the life of a scout Brentford had been instrumental in setting up that youth champions league and were hosting semi-final games at Griffin Park, I daresay that has helped them forge links with the bigger clubs.[/quote] Good point, totally forgot about that! The NextGen Series mentioned in Michael Calvin's book The Nowhere Men.

dear steve, you must know that in the past you have complained about not playing players who are on loan at our club. You just cannot have it both ways on loans. My view is you play your best team from the squad regardless of whether they are on loan at the club or contracted players. These maldon and tiptree players have obviously been scoring goals for fun in whatever league they are in right? I missed the game because of the TV tyrants switching the game to a sunday lunch time and making sure FA cup crowds were super low.

I fully support playing loan players when they are BETTER than what we have. In this case I do not believe that either of our loans are good enough.

God that sounds depressing Steve. I reallyt don't know what to think of us this season. Living up north, the only game ive seen so far was Rochdale. Im the forever optimist who thinks we are suddenly going to spark into life and start playing attractive , attacking football. I watched the oxford game yesterday and they looked pretty good. Does anyone think that GC is going to change the style or are we stuck with it while he's in charge I think we’re stuck with GC playing this style in the top half of league 1 for now. Joking aside I think he’s getting the best tune out if this current squad because we’ve got little pace at the moment, a few injuries and no creative midfielder. He’s doing the best pretty much any manager could do with what he’s got.

Agree. The manager can only play a style of play with the players at his disposal. Playing a type of football with players who are uncomfortable with that style is the height of folly. In such circumstances, it usually ends in tears with the manager eventually departing.
Give GC a chance. Despite disquiet from a number of quarters we are currently one point off the play offs. This time last year we were languishing at the other end of the table.

I would prefer watching a less than engaging style of football safe in the upper middle tier of League 1 under GC, rather than be scrabbling around the one relegation spot in League 2 if DC was still in charge.

Thanks for the write up Steve, always appreciate reading your view on things even if I sometimes don't agree with certain things. It sounds like we were awful and we've had several bad performances in recent weeks, needs to be nipped in the bud. Frankly after the Bolton game I would have been happy to never see Kelly in the team again he was that bad, but then he played a part in beating Rochdale so he's not all bad. Seems he was back to his previous form at the weekend though.
Regarding the Maldon and Tiptree players such as Jorome Slew, mark my words at least one of them will end up at Posh. They're the lower leagues young talent hoovers.

It's no surprise that the likes of that lad at Dover go there rather than to us (although he was a rare duff 'un for them).

The likes of us only react once he pops up on TV and scores a hat trick and by that time a queue has already formed with much bigger boys than us at the front of it. It’s frustrating they don’t seem to do more with your recommendations. As a Wales fan it was funny to see a few fans slagging off the fact that Wales called up Kieffer Moore, saying he was a lower league cart horse etc. I’m all in favour of trying out different options and he’s actually turned out to be bloody impressive so far! It reminded me of how you were plugging him on here all that time back just before he signed for Yeovil. Didn’t somebody say something once about big trees and acorns...?

I was bigging up Kieffer Moore after watching him in only his 2nd or 3rd game for Truro where he bullied the Weston-super-Mare defence and scored a goal. I contacted the club after that. He later moved on to Dorchester and then Yeovil. He was raw, but I felt he had potential that could be developed.

I can't recall us signing Clark-Harris after he popped up on TV?
